Madara
I remember it clearly. The day Hashirama and I lost our families will forever be engraved into my mind and his.
It started out as a regular Wednesday. Snow was falling gently covering our house and the ground in a thick snow blanket. I was outside getting ready to head out and sell charcoal. The new year was about to begin and I wanted there to be enough food for everyone to have seconds or even thirds if they wanted.
My boyfriend Hashirama was on his way over with his family so I wanted to wrap this up as quickly as I could so the two of us could spend time together. Normally, my father, Tajima would be with me but he was too sick to do it and my siblings were busy helping our mother.
Hashirama and I see each other every day naturally but it's not every day both our families spend the day with each other since we live on different sides of the mountain. If I'm not at my house I'm at his and vice versa. The two of us were currently eighteen and have been dating since we were fifteen. There's absolutely nothing I wouldn't do for him. He's the one I want to be with for the rest of my life
"Madara, seriously. Your all covered in shut". My mother Misa said coming outside. "Here let me clean you up". She made her way over to me and whipped my face with a washcloth. "You don't have to go you know, all this snow could be dangerous".
"I want us to have a good New Years' celebration where everyone can eat as much as they want. So I'll sell all the charcoal I can". "How thoughtful". She said smiling. "Hey Aniki"! One of my little brothers said running up to me.
"Are you going to town again today"? Izuna asked. "I'm coming with you". Ryuko said. "No your not, you know you can't walk as fast as Madara can sweetie". "Oh come on mom". "No way, he's not going to be able to use the cart today which means he can't give you a ride when you get tired".
They both made their way over to me. "Aniki". Izuna said holding onto my waist. "I wanna come with you, I promise I'll help out". ""That's very generous of you Ryu but you have to stay here and help mom out with dad, and you Izuna, with me being away that means you'll be in charge.
I'm counting on you to take care of things until I come back but I promise to bring back something for all of you". "Promise"? "I promise". I said smiling. "Thank you for doing this Madara". Mom said as my youngest brothers Rin, Haru, and Haruto made their way over to her.
"Of course mother". "Aniki". The twins called out. "I'll read to the both of you when I come back". They smiled. "Rin do me a favor please. Help Izuna chop up as much firewood as you can until I get back".
"Yeah, I had already planned on doing that anyway but I was kinda hoping we'd do that together this time". He said pouting. I made my way over to him and ruffled the top of his head. "We will next time ok". I said smiling.
"Cut that out will ya"! He yelled swatting my hand away making me smile more. I told everyone but as I placed the basket of coal on my back and headed down the mountain. On my way there I ran into Hashirama and his family.
His brothers stood next to him while he carried his little sister on his back. "Hey there Madara". He said smiling. "Hey Hashi. It's good to see you as well Lord Butusama, Lady Tsukiyama". I said giving his parents a forward bow.
"You're polite as ever Madara". His mother said. "You know you don't have to be so formal with us. We've known you since you were in diapers after all". His father said smiling. "I know, it just feels rude not to address you like this". I said smiling back.
"Are you heading out"? Hashi asked. "I am. I have to go sell as much charcoal as I can so our families can have a good New Year". "Let me come with you then". I shook my head. "I appreciate it really but you should stay here with your siblings, I won't be long".
"Are you sure"? I made my way over to him and kissed him. "I'm sure, I promise I won't be gone long and when I come back the two of us can go on top the roof and drink hot chocolate together". "O ok". He said blushing. "Cute". I kissed his cheek and continued my walk into town.
Our families don't exactly have an easy life but we're happy. Life can change though, as sudden as the weather. It shifts and moves on. The sun can't shine forever and the snow has to melt at some point but whatever happens.
When happiness is destroyed it's always followed by the smell of blood.
I made my way into town and was immediately greeted by one of the towns women. "Don't tell me you walked all the way down the mountain Madara. You'll catch a cold in this weather". "It's not as bad as you think I promise. Do you need a refill on charcoal by any chance"? I asked smiling.
"I'll take some Madara". "I'm good but thanks for fixing my sliding doors the other day". "I need some charcoal too". Some of the towns people said. I was about to make my way over to them when I was stopped. "Madara"!
One of the towns men yelled making his way out his home and kneeling down infront of me. "I've been accused of breaking this plate, can you help me out? Give it a sniff". He asked holding a broken plate that was placed on a towel.
I was use to this sort of thing happening. I was born with a very good sense of smell so the villagers would ask me to help them out from time to time because of it. I didn't mind at all. I leaned down, closed my eyes and took in the scent that was coming off of it.
"It smells like a cat". "You see". He said looking at his mother. "So it really was a cat". "Hey there Madara, I don't suppose you could give me a hand with this luggage". "Of course".
I spent the entire day helping out as many people as I could along with selling as much charcoal as I could. The next thing I knew the sun had set and was replaced with a dark velvet sky.
I can't believe I stayed gone that long, everyone must be worried sick. Oh well, at least I sold out.
I thought to myself as I made my way up the mountain heading home. "Hey Madara"! I turned and saw it was one of the townsmen calling out to me. "Your not heading back home now are you? It's simply to dangerous". "Oh I'll be fine, don't worry. I've got a good nose".
"You can stay here for the night, come on. Get inside". "No I". "Don't argue, just get in here. Before the demons show up". "Yes sir". I did as told and made my way inside. Once inside he fixed me a plate of food. I thanked him for the meal and ate.
"Mr. Saburo. What did you mean by demons"? "There's always been man eating demons prowling around after dark. That's why it's not safe to go outside at night". He said while fixing a shikibuton for me. "Time for bed, you can head home first thing tomorrow".
I made my way over to it and got under the covers. "These demons. Their not able to come inside are they"? "Yes they could come in". "But then, wouldn't they just eat everyone"? "The demon slayers protect us by killing as many as they can, they always have. Now go to sleep, it's lights out".
Demons huh? Please be safe everyone. I promise I'll be back home as soon as I can. I'm going to have to make it up to hashi as well.
"You be careful now. Travel safely". "I will, thank you for the hospitality". I bowed my head to him then made my way back up the mountain. My feet made a crouch sound with each step I took. The air was calm and fresh but it soon turned.
It started with a bad feeling in my gut that slowly over took my entire body. I closed my eyes and started to get worried as I smelled blood in the air. My talk with Mr. Saburo replayed in my mind as I took off and ran straight home.
I ran and ran. My feet would sink into the snow slowing me down a little but I continued to push through. I was determined to get home to my loved ones no matter what.
I quickened my pace as I saw my house in the distance but when I I finally made it there I froze in place. Outside on the ground were my Hashirama along with his sister Inuama and brother Tobirama, all three were covered in blood.
"Hashirama"! I yelled as I made my way over to him. I turned him over and held him close to me ass I tried to process what was going on. "Hashi, wake up. It's me Madara. I'm right here with you". I said with tears in my eyes.
The sight inside however was far more worse then the one outside. I gently laid Hashirama down on the snow covered ground and brushed his hair out of his face. "I'll be right back, wait for me". He was still warm so I had hope. I made my way inside and tears filled my eyes as I looked at the bloodied lifeless bodies of both mine and Hashirama's families.
I fell to my knees and gaged because how strong the smell of blood was and how sensitive my nose was. "I'm so sorry". I said to their lifeless bodies. As bad as it was I had to force myself up and head to my parents room. I needed to see if my father was ok.
I made my way to the room on shaky legs and slid the door open. "Father". I called out to him but didn't get any answer. He had blood covering his entire body as well. "Forgive me father". I left out the house and made my way back to Hashirama.
I placed him on my back as I ran with him. I had no idea where I was going, all I knew is that I had to get us to safety somehow and get him help. He's the only one left, I can't lose him.
"Everything's going to be ok Hashi, I promise. I swear on our family names that I will not let you die. Just keep fighting for me, I know you can do it".
How could something like this happen?
I could feel the cold air starting to fill my lungs as I continued to run through the thick snow. It hurt but I couldn't quite. Hashirama was deepening on me to get him help.
Just keep moving. Just keep moving. Just keep moving. Block out the pain. The pain your feeling is nothing compared to the pain your boyfriend is in right now. You've still got a long way to go till we get to town.
You cannot let him die. No matter what it takes, I swear I will save him.
All of a sudden I heard him making growling noises. I looked back and saw him trashing around on my back. "Hashi, it's ok". I said trying to get him to calm down but I ended up tripping resulting in us both falling down from the cliff we were on.
The cliff wasn't high so I knew he wouldn't injure himself more. "Hashirama"! I yelled out as I looked around frantic for him. I eventually saw him standing by a tree. "Hashirama, are you ok? You don't have to walk. I'll carry you". I said making my way over to him.
"Let me carry you to town, alright". I said gently placing my hand on his shoulder. He then started attacking me. His eyes were wild and his teeth and nails were sharp as he lunged at me. I quickly grabbed a hatchet and used it to try and fight him off while also trying not to hurt him.
H he's a demon. Is this what old man Saburo was trying to warn me about. He's a man eating demon? Impossible. Hashirama's been human since the day he was born. Except he doesn't have Hashirama's scent anymore.
He isn't the one that killed them though. He was lying on top of Inuama and Tobirama protecting them. Plus's his hands and mouth weren't covered in blood. Someone turned him into this and I wasn't there to protect him.
"While I was at Sabru's sleeping you were all getting brutally murdered. I can't begin to imagine how scared you must have been. You probably called out to me over and over for help but I didn't answer. I'm sorry. I'm sorry I wasn't there to protect you. I'm sorry I let all of you down". I said with tears in my eyes.
I have to at least save Hashirama but he's to strong for me to do anything
I thought to myself as I struggled to get him to stop attacking me.
"Hashi it's me, it's Madara. I'm not your enemy. I want to help you. Look into my eyes, you know who I'am. The two of us love each other, don't forget that". I pleaded with him.
The next thing I knew a tear drop fell on my face. I looked into his eyes and saw he was crying. His eyes were filled with nothing but sadness and hurt. That's when I knew. That's when I knew my Hashirama was still in there.
Madara
I heard his voice in my head. I reached my hand out to cup his cheek but soon found myself shielding him. Someone had attacked us both and my first instinct was to protect him. I took a good look at the person.
He had long brown hair that was tied in a low ponytail and had the same color eyes as both Hashirama and I. "Who are you"? I then looked down and saw that he wielded a sword in his hand. "Why are you protecting it"?
"He's my boyfriend. I was taking him to get help". Hashirama started making growling noises behind me. "Relax Hashi, it's ok. I'm fine". I said while holding him close to me.
"You call that thing your boyfriend"? He lunged at us, I tried my best to sheild Hashi with my body but when I looked up the brown haired man had him in his grips. "Hashirama". I stood up. "Don't move, my job is to slay every demon I find.
Which means I have to decapitate your lover". I could feel my blood freeze. "Please don't. Hashirama hasn't hurt anyone, back at my house there was another scent I had never smelled before. That's probably the one that killed our families, not him. He's innocent.
I don't know why he's changed into something like this but still". "It's really quite simple. He's turned because his wounds were exposed to demon blood. That's how the man eating monsters multiply". "Hashirama would never eat a human".
"You must be joking. If I hadn't gotten here when I did he would have devoured you". "Your wrong. He would never hurt me, he loves me. He knows who I'am plus I would never allow him to hurt anyone else. I'll turn him back into a human and heal him".
"He can't be healed. Once you become a demon no one can ever turn back". "I don't care how long it takes me to find one. I'd do anything for him, please just give him back to me. I'll take full responsibility for him.
I'll hunt down the one that slaughtered our families and make everything right. Just please don't take him from me. I can't lose him to. Please, just let him go". I got down on my hands and knees and pleaded with him.
"I'm begging you. Please". I said with a shaky breath as tears fell from my eyes. "Please don't kill him. He's all I have left, I love him. Please don't do it. I'm begging you, I need him".
"Don't gravel like that and give your enemies the chance to kill you! All your doing is making yourself vulnerable! If it were even a little bit effective your family would still be alive right now! How can a weakling like you have any hope of finding a way to heal his lover or hunt down a demon? Don't be ridiculous.
The weak have no rights. They don't get to make choices. All they can do is be relentlessly crushed by the strong. Now maybe the demons know of a way to cure your lover. Maybe but don't think for a second that anyone of them will respect your wishes.
Just like I have no respect for you, that's reality. And why the hell did you throw yourself over him like that? Was that your way of protecting him? Why didn't you swing that hatchet and why would you ever turn your back to me?
Those mistakes are what led to his capture. I could've easily just skerewed the both of you and been on my way". I watched as he aimed his sword at his heart and start to swing it. "Don't you fucking touch him"! I grabbed the closet thing to me that was a rock and threw it at his sword to stop his attack.
I then took off and continued to throw rocks at him as I tried to look for a opening. When I found one I lunged at him but he immediately hit me in the back with the bottom of his sword. "Your a fool". But what he didn't know was that I had also thrown the hatchet up in the air.
He was taken by surprise but still managed to dodge it. All of a sudden Hashirama was able to break free and make his way over to me shielding me. I wasn't able to see what happened next because everything went dark.
When I woke up again Hashirama was laying beside me unconscious but he was still alive. The only difference now was that he had a gourd in his mouth as he slept. "You awake"? I lifted up my head and saw that the brown haired man from earlier was still here. I sat up and held Hashi close to me.
"Get to mount Sagiri as soon as possible. Look for an old man named Sakonji Urokodak. When you find him tell him Indra Otsutsuki sent you. It's cloudy so he seems to be alright at the momet but never allow him to be exposed to sunlight". He said before vanishing.
When Hashirama woke up again we headed back to my house and gave each of our parents and siblings the funeral they deserved. We both payed our respects then left.
