Flesh Into Gear
Work carried on as normal for a week or two and I used it to test all my strengths for when I decided to go up against Callahan, I kept my head down most if the time and kept out of his line of sight as to prevent any premature altercation, I just let him continue on with his bullying ways. The timing had to be perfect, the fight had to be justified, the officers had to be watching and it had to get all the workers riled up. If it was just a small tussle and over in couple of seconds there would be no chance at the trials and if I just kept repeating the same thing I would get the reputation of a troublemaker and seen as a joke and I'd have to stay here to rot.
I observed him and looked for ways I could get him angry enough to fight, small things like emptying his canteen whenever he was away from is console, that brought out some steam. I inserted small wooden splinters in the wheels of the carts so they would either move slowly along the tracks of jam completely, his work load would pile up causing officers to scold him. It was working a treat and he would soon be where I wanted him. In a way I was quite enjoying it from where I was, seeing him be bullied by someone the identity of which he did not know so he would blame the group he worked with.
The next day I made things worse for Callahan by continuously to loosen a plug on his console which would make the track power stutter, he blew it and I watched him rip out the Console and beat one of his minions over and over, obliterating his scull. He hopped the guardrail and pushed the cart full of metal down the track himself. This action called for more officers in the pit. This was my only shot. He disapeared into the gloom of the tunnel, shouting so loud it sounded like the warning roar from a Lion's cave.
I was waiting for him when he came back, drinking the last of his water but acting natural about it, I could feel him right behind me and I could feel the steam from his body, this was going to hurt, only I didn't know who for the most.
He span me around an uppercutted me in the jaw, I felt at least two teeth break on the left Side of my mouth and I spat them out watching them fall through the metal grating of the catwalk. Some guards were watching and they laughed, guess they needed some entertainment. I was picked up by the brute and thrown hard over the railing, my back landing amongst the jagged rocks that were being moved by the conveyor belt.
'You're just the unluckiest rat in this place today' he said as he joined me on the machine. What he didn't know is he was about to help me become the Luckiest rat in here. The punch really rattled me, it had been a long time since I'd been punched that hard. I managed to get myself up but was met with a powerful forward kick to the middle of my torso which send me flying. I looked and this was the first time I noticed how big Callahan was, he was built like a fridge and had the force of a cannon. There were strings of saliva in his big bushy beard from the shouting and the muscles in his neck looked as though they were going to rip through his skin. He stomped his way over to me as I was getting up and didn't see then rock coming his way that I launched, hitting right off his beer-keg sized and scarred chest. He stumbled back a little and it gave me a chance to get up on my feet, he took a run at me but I was ready, twisting myself just in time for him to trip and go sprawling head first, people began to stop working and watch the battle, the big bad bully of the Asylum was being put to work. I picked up a length of raw wood drove the top of it into his face when he got up and turned around, blood poured from his mouth as he bared his now missing front teeth. I went for another blow but he managed to grab it, getting the best of me he managed to swing me over the railing and seven foot down to floor just near a large pile of stones. As he was climbing down and managed to get up and put some space between us both.
'Oh I'm gonna enjoy what happens next' he said as he followed me to near the row of furnaces. Somehow I really doubt that he would. I was being patted on the back by some of the prisoners by a few of the people who were enjoying seeing Callahan be stood up against. I kept my eyes on him as I kept walking backwards. He took a swing at me and I countered it but opening one of the gates to a furnace which met his fist, it burned my fingers right away so it clearly burned his fist too. He screamed and made the stupid decision to nurse his fist which gave me enough time to land a hard strike to his jaw. He spat out a thick wad of blood and fell to one knee as I used my own knee to hit the exact same area again. I took my leave through the crowd and out of his sight.
I made my way over to the rock breaker where I could see him coming through the crowd towards me, looked for somewhere to hide but there were way too many eyes on me. So I stood where I was and waited, grabbing an iron bar from the bucket of broken machinery. He charged at me like a bull but I moved in a play I had not actually planned, I heard a scream and looked to see Callahan had gotten his arm jammed in he gears, they moved slow now as she crunched the bones in his hand and arm. Blood began to pour from the metal meat-factory onto the dirt below. Callahan grabbed at his arm and started to pull, he looked over at me just as I swung the bar into his face, he twisted and sat on the floor, his chewed up arm almost detaching within the gears. I swung again and shattered the right side of his jaw as his head began to lol, back the other way to shatter the other side, this time his face split and chunks of bone fell out rolling down his sweaty body.
Everyone hit the ground when they heard the loud machine guns being shot into the air, I did also covering my head until it stopped. I looked up to see Officer Doggo with a few of his men stood overall the top of us on the catwalk.
'GENTLEMEN!' he shouted down with the smile of a man loving the very little power he had 'what seems to be the problem?' I stood up and looked down at Callahan who was neither dead nor fully alive.
...
Both me and Callahan were taken away, me in shackles and Callahan on a trolley. Before they took him down a seperate corridor he tried to sit up and reach for me, his tongue hanging out of the bloody, swinging mess which was once his jaw
'Umm ick ooooo' he moaned, I had no Idea what he was trying to say but the look in his eyes told me it was a promised threat.
I walked with my feet and wrists shackled together as I was ushered by eight officers, a few I recognized from the slaughter at the old diner months ago. I was taken into an elevator going up and into a transport wearhouse which had all of its old exists blocked off by metal, no chance of escaping this way. They left me stood in the middle of this place as they all went to stand to one side.
'Quite a mess you made down there my men tell me' I voice said from the darkness in front of me followed by mechanical warring and unnatural heavy footfalls as the man revealed himself.
From the little of what I heard about the man who ran this place I was expecting someone bigger than Callahan but that was not try case as he was about my height, just a little older than me and very lean. His left leg was entirely mechanical, not professionally made but the best work done by Black-fingers. It was powered by a belt he wore around his waist. He wore a old yellowed vest tattered with holes which exposed the fact that his leg wasn't the only accessory, nails stuck through pinched flesh all in rose. He had he even had metal purposely implanted in his head, two chrome horns rose from his forehead.
'They also say you put on a show against the fellow, sounds like someone loves to use his fists' he smiled and the smile filled me with dread, as where his teeth should have been he had screws implanted.
'I don't like bullies who think they run the place' I said back as I stared into his disturbing smile.
'And who does run this place?' He asked.
'You ofcourse, War-Don'
'Best not forget it' he said with a dry humorless laugh.
He stepped further out of the gloom and slowly circled me looking me up and down.
'I can tell you fight with heart, determination and at full force, like a living machine' he said.
'I only fight when I know it serves a purpose, Callahan would beat workers and often kill them, that has an effect on work capacity' I explained my reasoning, hoping it would win him over.
'I can't say that I ever cared for either good or bad, but what I do care about is keeping order, I am the order here and won't have that changed' he said as he came right up to my face, I don't know exactly what I was smelling on his breath, rusted metal or blood but it very easily could have been both.
'Would you fight for order my gladiator?' He asked me, this is it this is what I was looking for.
'I'll do whatever is asked of me, generous compensation would be welcome' I said honestly but wanting to play right into where he wanted me.
'You fight for me and whatever you want other than freedom will be yours, do we have a deal?'
I shook his hand for the first and last time.
Hope you are all enjoying it so far, Im really feeling iffy about the fight scene something about it does not feel right, there will be some changes coming to previous chapters too, just a few minor things to help it fit better with this one.
