"Do me a favor and pass me my glasses?" My dad said as we got into the U-Haul. I set my soda and my small box of Sour Patch Kids onto the seat and gave dad his glasses.
"Thanks kiddo." I smiled and sat down in the seat, taking the candies into my own hands.
"Where are we headed now?" I asked, sipping my cold soda. The warm heat from outside was beating down on us, as he drove.
"Well now we're headed to Reno, but then soon we will be headed to Summerlin, city is about fifteen minutes away from Vegas I believe." Dad said smiling. We had been driving for ages, and now that we're finally almost to where we need to be, I'm grateful.
"Well where are we now?" I set the drink into the cup holder and dug out some makeup removers, as it was getting dark and my makeup ha smeared all over my face.
"Well we just made it out of Utah and we're making it into Elko right now, just get some sleep and we will be there before you know it."
I listened to what he said and wiped off my makeup so I wouldn't break out the next day, I put my hair up into a ponytail and popped some earbuds in. I turned on some Fall Out Boy and jammed out, into some sleep.
~~~
I woke up to the sound of the brakes screeching. I wasn't in a bad mood when I woke up, surprisingly. However, I was still very tired. I decided to shake it off and get out of the car.
"Well here it is!" My dad said, happily. There was a newer house, built just for us.
"Woah, this is our house?" I said amazed. "Jut for the two of us?"
"Sure is!" He smiled at me and waked inside of the house, motioning for me to follow him too.
The house was huge, especially for just the both of us. I walked into the living-room, which was connected to the dining room and the kitchen. The living room was a deep brown color with white boarders. There was a fire place at the corner of the room and the kitchen was dark with, not black granite tops. The cabinets were black, and the knobs were white.
~~~
We got everything set around four in the morning. "Well that happened quick," I said yawning. I was exhausted.
"Yeah, I'm surprised we did. Tomorrow I'm going to work on my room, and you can go to the store and purchase some room decoration. Don't spend too much, as get used to living here. You never know what can be found." He said sighing, I could tell he was tired.
I walked into the room with the bed and undid the covers from under the pillows. I got under the covers and pulled out my phone.
I turned on some music and read a book. I checked my phone to see that it was almost six, I figured I could spend a day without some sleep if I just had some coffee to wake me up. "Ugh," I groaned getting up.
Around nine I told dad that I was leaving Togo to the department store down in Vegas, he nodded saying that I could go. I got into the car an turned on the radio to hear an unfamiliar song.
Let's get these teen hearts beating faster, faster. Testosterone boys, an harlequin girls, will you dance to this beat and hold a lover close.
I sang along to the song and pulled up to the department store. I parked my car and got my phone and purse, which had some money my dad had put in it.
I made my way to the comforters, I picked out a white one. It didn't have anything special, it was just a whit comforter. I picked out some Christmas lights to hang around my room, I got some black picture frames and a couple plants.
I walked to the cash register and the cashier, "Hello how are you this morning?"
I sighed and smiled, "I'm great, thank you."
She proceeded to check out my items and said, "It seems like you're moving? Are you starting college?"
I smiled and laughingly sighed, "Oh no, I just moved here from Manhattan. My dad got a new job and I had to move with him.he gave me some money to go and spend on my room."
The cashier finished and said, "That's so cool! Where are you living now? oh and that will be $75.48."
I dug through my bad and pulled out three twenty dollar bills, a ten and a five. "Here you go, but hold on a second so I can get my change. I'm living in a house in Summerlin right now, I'm going to start a school there next year."
She smiled, "That is so awesome! No it's okay, don't bother. I'll pay for the change. It's the least I could do. It must be tough moving such a long distance with only your dad."
My mom left us when he found out she had a son of her own, we have no idea where she could be now. "No you don't have to-"
She cut me off, "No I'm not doing this because I have to, I'm doing it because I want to. My name is Skylar by the way."
I smiled and said, "I'm Alice."
"If you want, I can give you my number and you can text me. I have a few friends that you would really like. Here's my number! I wrote it on the bottom of your receipt." She said handing me the paper.
"Awesome, thank you." I said and I got my bags.
"No problem! I look forward to seeing you soon."
