Part 11
By the time summer was over, Dawn had released two more singles and her studio time was always booked solid. She had completely immersed herself in her work and had forgotten what she had come to Japan for; school. There was only one week left to summer break and Dawn realized that she had to shift gears. Now she had to prepare for school. At school she would have to pretend that she didn't know Haruka, not to mention she would have to hide the fact that she was Machi-san.
The beginning of school brought with it a whole new set of surprises. The first was that the school she was attending was designed for nobles and idols. Regardless, she thought it would be normal, but it was far from it. The other students seemed to look at her with distaste. Dawn figured that some of the students would dislike her, but this was totally unexpected; none of the students would even give her the time of day. Although this shocked her; the biggest surprise was yet to come. While everyone was avoiding her, they failed to notice that one person had actually taken an interest in her. Even she didn't realize it until he tapped her on the shoulder.
"Hello Dawn!" Ryosuke said with a smile.
Dawn jumped up in surprise "Ryosuke!...-san." She looked around confused "What are you doing here?"
"Didn't you know? I also go to school here."
"What?" her eyes widened. "Come on, enough jokes. Really now, what are you doing here?"
"It's no joke" he said seriously as he walked past her towards the school. At that moment she realized that he was wearing the school's uniform. As he walked away from her, the crowd seemed to swarm around him. It was clear that he was very popular, but was it only because he was an idol?
A few girls looked back at Dawn for a moment, then turned and walked away. Dawn could tell that they were sizing her up and judging her. They wanted to know why Ryosuke paid any attention to her at all. They were also curious how they knew each other, but were too above asking her because she was so common.
Based on her first impressions of the school and it's students. Dawn knew she would have her hands full. School was not going to be easy on her. And being the one and only girl Ryosuke approached was going to make life even harder. Everywhere she went, people were staring at her. She had nowhere she could relax.
For a moment, as she was walking in the school garden, she thought she might have a chance to catch her breath. Unfortunately, there were eyes still following her. Suddenly, she was grabbed from behind and dragged into the bushes. Dawn expected to be bullied, but on the first day? She tried her best to break free and scream, but her captor wouldn't let go. "Shh! Be quiet, or they will find us!" her captor whispered in her ear. Her body froze. She knew that voice. She looked up and there stood Ryosuke with his arms around her.
Noticing that she was no longer fighting him, he let go. Dawn could tell he was a little embarrassed of his actions. He started to move away from her and she became disappointed. Then he turned around and gestured for her to follow. Come on" he whispered. She was surprised; she thought that he was only trying to protect himself from being discovered. She never thought that he went out of his way to help her. She smiled and followed him down the overgrown path to a rundown building that was no longer being used.
Once inside, he said "I found this building when I came here for a tour. I was being chased, like always, and just stumbled upon it. I was able to hide in here until it all died down. So don't worry, you will be safe here. No one will find us." She didn't know why, but she was comforted by his words.
Everyday from then onward, the two of them would sneak away to their secret hideout. This only made the rumors grow, but it didn't bother them. They didn't care what everyone was saying, because they knew the truth. Overtime their friendship seemed to change; it became something more, but neither one wanted to admit it. They both had secrets that they were too afraid to tell.
One day after school, Dawn and Ryosuke went to the agency together. They both had work, but Dawn's excuse was that the agency was her sponsor and she had to go for daily progress reports. Although Ryosuke knew that she also worked for the agency, he didn't know that she was Machi-san. Regardless, he never told anyone that she worked for the agency. Once inside the building, they went their separate ways. Ryosuke had to meet up with his band and Dawn had to go meet with Seguchi-sama.
As Ryosuke was working, he overheard Haruka mention that she had a meeting with Machi-san later that night. This intrigued him, but he let it pass. After all, he wasn't the only one who was dying to know who Machi-san was.
Later that night as he was heading home, he caught a glimpse of Haruka. He remembered what she had mentioned earlier in the day; she had a meeting with Machi-san tonight. He thought that it couldn't hurt to follow her, so he did. When she finally stopped, it was in front of a studio. Haruka knocked on the door and waited patiently. This must be Machi-san's studio, he thought. He waited with anticipation, but never expected what happened next. When the door opened he saw her, but couldn't believe his eyes; it was Dawn.
