Macbeth Bonus Scenes: Scotland vs. Norway War

Ranks of Soldiers smear across the doorsteps of Dunsinane, Scotland. A battle between the King of Scotland and the Norweyan King begins to rage. The King of Scotland, King Duncan, fights alongside his thanes, Macbeth, Banquo, and Macdonwald. As well, King Duncan's son, Malcolm battles against the Norweyan King, Sweno.

Scene i. The Battlefield, Sanquhar Hills, Scotland.

Enter King Duncan and Malcolm facing Scottish soldiers on horses. Macbeth, Banquo, and MacDonwald are in front;

Torches can be seen in the distance.

King Duncan: Tread, tread, knights of honor,

the present-day battle wilt be won! The endeavors thou wilt face in the present day wilt be endured, but blood must weep from enemies' bodies. Raiseth thy swords in mine grace, Slaughter the defenses of thy foes, splinter shields, make our foes quake at our visage. Do't with valor and thou wilt o'er wrought.

King Duncan raises his own sword in the air as he gallops back and forth in front of his foot soldiers

Malcolm: Aye!

Malcolm lights a torch from astride his own horse

All [in chaotic unison]: For mine king!

King Duncan: Take heed! Yare? Draweth thy swords!

Soldiers stand alert and draw their swords

Take!

Exit all, except Malcolm

Enter First Norweyan Soldier

Malcolm continues to trample enemy soldiers on his horse. A Norweyan Soldier spots Malcolm and realizes he is the son of King Duncan, drawing his bow to attempt to kill him.

First Norweyan Soldier [shouting]: Thou shalt not overwhelm me in defeat and thou art preposterous to bethink upon thyself that thou art fit to be crown thereafter thou kin, for thou art a witless recreant.

Shoots Malcolm's horse and it topples over. Malcolm tumbles off his horse out of the way of its fall. Malcolm gets up, outraged. Malcolm advances on the first soldier, flicking his sword rapidly in short motions up and down

Malcolm [frenzied]: Didst thou think thou could cripple me? Thou wilt be forced to contend with mine bale towards thy!

Malcolm stabs the first soldier through the heart and the First Soldier falls to the ground, limp.

Remain on the ground First Soldier

Enter Second Norweyan Soldier

Second Norweyan Soldier [noisily upset]: Thou hast killed him!

Malcolm advances toward the Second Soldier with his sword ready. Fence with Second Soldier; Malcolm unsuccessfully blocks a hit to his side by the Second Soldier

Malcolm: Fie! Thou art damned to the city Dis!

Falls to the ground clutching his stomach.

Second Norweyan soldier grabs Malcolm's leg and drags him a short distance

Exit First Soldier

Enter Sergeant and Third Norweyan Soldier, fighting loudly stage center.

Sergeant: Thee miscreant! Mine King's son shalt not expire this present day. Thee art a bastard, thee. Son of the King, I will cometh to thee.

Cuts off the head of the Third Soldier. The Third soldier dies; remain on scene.

The Sergeant charges the 2nd Soldier; cuts off Second Soldier's arm.

Second Soldier: Fie!

2nd Soldier drops Malcolm, the 2nd Soldier focuses on Sergeant, stabs the Sergeant's shoulder.

Sergeant: How dare thee!

Malcolm crawls away, gets up slowly to limps towards the Second Soldier, backstabs the Second soldier piercing the heart. Second Soldier screams, fall to the ground dead

Malcolm: Thou hast saved mine life!

Bloody Sergeant: Thee hast more honor than thee knoweth!

The Blood Sergeant goes to Malcolm and helps him away from the battle, exiting

Exeunt

Scene ii. Meanwhile in a Norweyan Camp, Near Sanquhar Hills

Enter King Sweno, MacDonwald, Two Norweyan Cadets

MacDonwald is captive and the King Sweno, The Norweyan King, and two Cadets are trying to gain information from Macdonwald.

King Sweno [frustrated}: Thou shalt beest cutteth down for thy disloyalty to me, Macdonwald.

He commands.

Cadets!?

Cadet I & II [in unison]: Aye, mine King!

Two young soldiers march over with wooden sticks at their sides and wait for orders.

King Sweno [commanding harshly]: I hath mine own duties to attend to! Thee, both of thee, wilt teachest this rat the consequences of audacity towards me.

MacDonwald [murmuring]: I hath never betrayed thee, thou art a bastard. I am loyal to mine king and mine men, and thou art not either. I wilt never showeth grace towards thee. All of the darkness in mine soul wilt be brought upon thee, and the blood I wilt have towards mine king wilt never cease, no matter the suffering thee afflict on mine figure.

MacDonwald slumps as he sits slumped over with his hands behind his back and his head bows, though he glares into the King's eyes

King Sweno [furious]: Gents! Maketh the traitorous Haggard spill, and if darkness becometh his future, kill the bigot with blood streaming from his heart.

King Sweno kicks Macdonwald twice and points his finger at his Cadets. Cadets lift their sticks hesitantly.

Exit King Sweno flicking his cape and strutting away

Cadets hit MacDonwald until he speaks.

MacDonwald: Hold for this gall is too much for mine bodice to overtake!

He bends over in his sitting position.

I shall put forth my knee to thee, but ought never to go back to mine King for I hath much blood on mine hands, and will expire as a traitor to whom I am vouchsafed.

Cadet I: For mine King or thy King thee wilt fall off and berattle in thy lodging. Thou art doomed to bore fire and lightless days whether thee bestow either company.

MacDonwald: Then I shalt pledge to mine birthplace for I hath been absent in battle for much time and be honorable towards thy crown. As mine trial I asketh of the King to allow me to wend against Macbeth, while thy King ploys an assault on Fife. Fife is weak, no army shalt come to their aid. The Thane of Fife will not see the coil hastily enough.

Cadet II [pleased]: The King wilt hath presentment towards thee.

MacDonwald [smirking]: I will be most biting to Macbeth.

The Norweyan Soldier lets MacDonwald bring his hands to his front and stand.

Exeunt

Scene iii. The Battlefield, Sanquhar Hills, Scotland.

Enter Macbeth and Banquo, and Four Norweyan Footsoldiers.

Macbeth and Banquo are outnumbered in size, but the Norweyan Soldiers have less strength and are therefore dying.

Macbeth [fighting Footsoldiers I & II at once]: Thou art banished to Lucifer's treachery upon mine embossment of thee!

Stabs Footsoldier I, Footsoldier I crumples to the ground. Macbeth pierces Footsoldier II's throat.

Banquo [surrounded]: Macbeth, mine friend, come hither, I am in need of aid anon!

Banquo attempts to fight off Footsoldiers III, IV, only III dies.

Macbeth rushes over to Banquo's backside, stand back to back.

Exit Footsoldier I & II

Enter Footsoldier V

Macbeth [blocking Footsoldier IV strikes]: I am at thy back, anon we wilt square as one.

Banquo [stabbing at Footsoldier V] 'Tis an honor to be fighting at thy side in a broil, mine Thane.

Kills Footsoldier V by stabbing him through the lung.

Macbeth: I am fain to hast a faithful soldier at mine side if't be true I did doth die the present day.

Slits Footsoldier IV's throat.

Exit Footsoldiers III & IV

Enter Footsoldiers VI and VII and MacDonwald.

Banquo is busy with Footsoldier VI and does not notice Footsoldier VII come up behind him. Macbeth does.

Enter Bloody soldier as a witness.

Macbeth: Banquo, thither behind thou.

Banquo kills Footsoldier VI as Macbeth charges at Foot Soldier VII behind Banquo and cuts Footsoldier VII from his stomach to the top of his throat.

Banquo [slightly confused but in awe]: Thou art full of courage, I thank thee.

Both Banquo and Macbeth spot MacDonwald at the same time.

Macbeth [in disgust]: Thee doth not deserve to be apart of this earth, thee hast committed a sin with such lack of valor to thy kin, thou shalt see shade for thy bloody actions.

Advancing on MacDonwald

MacDonwald [dropping to his knees]: I did doth nay sin to thee, only to the King of Norway. Thee shall believeth thither?

Puts down his sword, and rocks back and forth praying

Macbeth [standing over MacDonwald]: Whither should I not did doth cut out thy tongue, for I wish to not hast to heareth thy wretched cries no longer.

Picks MacDonwald off the ground.

Thou shouldst be a woman bowed at mine own feet, instead of a churlish vagabond that defiled against his king. Thou shalt diest for that. Stand, anon.

Macbeth picks up MacDonwald's sword from the ground and thrusts it into MacDonwald's stomach twisting it around.

Exit Bloody Soldier

Banquo comes to Macbeth's side.

Banquo [angry]: A final word before darkness shades thine irradiation?

Macbeth lets MacDonwald fall to the ground as he pulls the sword out of him.

Macbeth [skeptical]: He whispered warning in mine own ear?

Macbeth kneels beside MacDonwald and bends over him to listen.

MacDonwald: I die dampy for mine stars to his strife?

Broil hath struck thy Thane of Wemyss, Fife,

hitherto a hero is MacDuff, therefore coup.

Though mine grace towards thy fail doth I rue.

MacDonwald dies. Macbeth gasps and waves his hand over MacDonwald's eyes. MacDonwald's eyes are now closed. Banquo helps Macbeth to his feet

Exit Macbeth and Banquo
