Chapter 56: Finally
It'd been so long since Yusei had sent Rue out to spy on the Gensai Group's estate, and still, he heard nothing from her. The earpiece had been notably destroyed, likely due to Sora's interference, but there was nothing the ravenette could do. He had wanted to storm into the place, but the platinum-haired girl hadn't found any justification for it. Yusei hadn't heard anything about (Y/n) nor had he any indication of what happened after Rue was discovered.
It crushed the hope he held for Yamato, making him go into a downwards spiral, in threat of what the brunette was going through. He didn't feel anything. The need to eat was gone, the need to sleep disappeared, and the need to do anything except grovel to himself vanished. He was becoming a husk of the person he was based on his instances of failure when Yamato needed him the most. More than anything, he was disappointed in himself beyond repair, enough to make him distance himself from anything and everything.
Both the brunette and ravenette were faced with overwhelming fear, enough to shut down their systems for good. Yusei with his greatest fear of disappointing the former, and Yamato with his worst fear of being alone. Though neither were truly experiencing their fear, it was close enough. The ravenette didn't have the ability for the older male to tell him he'd tried his best and that he was proud. Likewise, the brunette didn't have anyone who compared to the feeling of the bond he possessed with (Y/n).
And Amaryllis watched it all unfold, not knowing what to do, especially when even Yusei was giving up hope. The two were in deep despair, unable to climb out on their own. It seemed an obvious solution to the older girl. They just needed to support one another, but it wasn't so simple to them. Almost nothing would draw them out of their states and both relied on Yamato seeing (Y/n) again. At that point, the brunette would have just been happy to see her body even if it was a corpse. Any semblance of the (h/c) haired girl would be more than welcome.
In a last effort to help the two, the members of the group banded together and orchestrated a party. It included their favorite foods, tables full of sweets and sugary substances. After all, it was only common knowledge that Yusei was the one to introduce Yamato to his love of sweets. Both possessed a sweet tooth that would not be sated easily. It was the fastest and easiest way to cheer them up.
There was also a sparring match as the group knew Yamato loved the act of fighting with another, especially if they were challenging. For Yusei, there was a chess match scheduled for him, his love of testing his mind well known. In addition, Yamato's parents, Hise, and many other of their loved ones were there, waiting to shower them with the affection and encouragement they so needed.
Still, as Amaryllis all but dragged the brunette out of his room, he looked a mess. Bags were under his eyes, his hair unnaturally disheleved, his kimono wasn't even tied properly yet he still held his katana by his side, still viewing it as the most precious thing he owned. Masaru and Raiden pounced along beside him. Though it was rare for the latter to join, he put away his typically prideful attitude to follow his master, confused at his change in activity.
At the same time, others dragged Yusei from his bed, but he didn't care enough to fight back. He just let them do as they pleased, unbothered and uncaring of what was going to happen. Their voices just made him zone out, paying attention to nothing but his own thoughts that tore him apart inside. Even as he saw Amaryllis peering down at him, he felt no desire to run and hide behind something to avoid her flirting or dirty jokes. It was only when he noticed Hise was there that he had a change of motivation.
While he would have wasted no time berating the young man for answers, he noticed that Yamato was there, sitting against a wall and looking down at the ground. His eyes were dilated, not focused on the tatami mats he was staring at. Even as Yusei approached him, he didn't move, didn't look, didn't speak. He just remained as he was when Amaryllis sat him down. Not once had he looked at the sweets or the sparring ring waiting for him.
"Kage," the ravenette sighed, leaning on the brunette's shoulder only to receive no reaction from him, "I'm so sorry."
The brunette only let out a sigh as he heard Yusei's voice, trying to ignore the reason the male was apologizing. He didn't blame the younger boy for finding a false trail nor did he place the responsibility on him. The only thing the ravenette was trying to do was help him find (Y/n), but it was the brunette's thought that he, himself, was responsible for losing her. There was nothing else he wanted to do but give up.
"Yam-Yam," Amaryllis said, shaking the male almost violently to grab his attention, "C'mon, beat the crap out of somebody. It'll make you feel better."
There was no reply, only a blank expression from the brunette, accompanied by a somber whimper from him though it was barely audible. Instead of facing his adopted sister, he ignored her, looking further down at the ground. Masaru came into his sight, giving him a pleading bark before snuggling into him. Raiden only sat on the male's lap, giving a look that told the brunette he expected to be pet and told he was the "goodest boy". But Yamato didn't put in the effort to communicate with anything, even his beloved dogs.
"Would you rather I got you a new girlfriend?" Amaryllis teased, "I know a girl who has double damns~ She'd be really good in bed."
For the first time in a while, Yamato reacted to another, but it wasn't pretty. His eyes darkened in pure anger and he grabbed the girl by her shirt, pulling her close to himself so she could see how enraged he was. There seemed to be a fire in his eyes as if he was considering whether or not to hurt her. In deciding, Yusei's eyes sparkled in hope, but he'd rather see the male be filled with joy instead of anger.
"Don't you dare," Yamato spat in rage, "I don't want any of your whore friends! Are you trying to insult my kitten?! Are you caling her a whore?! She's the purest thing in the whole fucking world, dumbass! I'll kill you, bitch!"
The entire room was in shock, not a person daring to move. While he was overly aggressive in threatening his adoptive sister, everyone was ecstatic to see him speaking with motivation for a change. There were some who cheered and began drinking in celebration, hoping the male began to speak more. Of course, it wasn't something that Amaryllis was happy about, being threatened with death from her younger brother.
"The difference between you is night and day!" Yamato continued to roar, "All you are is a whore who picks and teases on other people because you have nothing better to offer! And (Y/n)...she's...she's gentle a-and soft and loving...I...I..."
The brunette relaxed as he thought of the (h/c) haired girl. It came over his body, making him let go of the older girl's shirt, prompting her to tumble back and land on her behind. Yamato's expression softened then hardened then softened again. He seemed internally conflicted with thinking of his kitten, wondering and pondering and whatever else he could do. He couldn't bear the thought of being without her, finding he lived in a nightmare he concocted himself.
In seeing the male stop displaying emotion and reverting to his state of desolate hopelessness, it was enough to make the ravenette next to him tense, worrying for his sake. Instead of staying beside the brunette and trying to talk to him - as he knew that wouldn't work - he stood up and grabbed onto Hise's collar with tears flowing down viciously. The young man reacted as he did at the bar, giving a straight and blank expression, knowing exactly what Yusei wanted.
"Tell me, Hise!" the ravenette begged, "You can't look at us and not help! Look how in pain he is! And look at me! Is this what you wanted?!"
"Not now, Yu," the male sighed, "This isn't the time. Besides, I'm not telling you either way."
"You have to!" Yusei cried, his knees weakening as he relied on the taller male to support him, "Please, you have to!"
The other members of the group tried to separate the ravenette from the bartender, but he only clung onto him tightly as if his life depended on it. Yusei didn't give up, trying to guilt the male into telling him what he knew about (Y/n) and her whereabouts. All the while, Hise did not tell him anything, a blank expression on his features. It didn't take Yamato long to hear the sound of desperation coming from the ravenette, but he didn't care until Yusei cued him in on what was happening.
"You're not helping anybody!" the younger boy cried, "Why do you have to keep this to yourself?! (Y/n) could be hurt, but you won't tell me where she is! Do you know what Kage's going through?!"
Upon hearing Hise had the knowledge of where the (h/c) haired girl was, Yamato's eyes darkened once more. The fact that the male wasn't saying anything either was troubling, especially because Yusei was right. (Y/n) could be hurt, in pain, or in the process of dying and Hise hadn't said a word. It prompted a different kind of rage within him, making him grip the hilt of his katana as he stood up, glaring into the male's eyes.
Hise gave an audible groan, knowing he was going to be beaten up for the information if need be. Though, with the way Yamato began approaching him, he seemed intent on hurting him no matter how quickly or easily he cooperated. The brunette unsheated his katana, gripping it so hard his skin went white, cutting off circulation. He pushed Yusei out of the way and narrowed his eyes viciously while positioning his katana directly on Hise's neck. It drew just the slightest amount of blood, enough to send the male a message.
"Tell me where my kitten is," the brunette snapped, gritting his teeth together, "Now."
"I'm not at liberty to say."
"Cut the crap! My kitten, dumbass."
Hise stayed silent, knowing it was the best option and that it would spare more pain and suffering than telling the male even if he was at risk for harm, himself. The ravenette behind the brunette was trying to hold in his tears. He didn't want his friend to be harmed, but it seemed it was the only way to find out where the (h/c) haired girl was. Still, Hise wasn't intimidated nor was he backing down.
"I don't want to play these fucking games!" Yamato howled, in pain and despair, clutching onto the only hope he had, "Tell me before I lose my temper and slice your head clean off your body!"
"We don't need to resort to violence, Kage. I was only - "
"My kitten, dumbass!" the brunette demanded, his voice breaking as he struggled to hold himself together.
As Hise was about to make a countermove to get away from the katana, there was a door that opened, revealing a panicked girl. Rue scampered across the floor, tears in her eyes and her hair sprawled everywhere. She gave a worried look to Yusei before her eyes shrank further as she looked at the katana Yamato held in his hand. The platinum-haired girl clearly didn't believe she was safe in the area she had just evacuated to, but as she saw the ravenette, she calmed herself, trying to catch her breath.
"Where have you been?" Yusei huffed, standing in front of the older girl, "What happened?"
"M-Master Sora!" Rue whimpered, clinging onto the younger boy, "I-I went in and - "
The platinum-haired girl didn't get a chance to explain herself, the brunette launching towards the girl. He didn't need to connect the dots, only thrown into a rage when the older male's name was mentioned. The brunette found the girl to be a liability, likely to turn from him and share his or Yusei's secrets to the rival yakuza heir. Yamato seemed highly intent on striking a fatal blow. The girl was only spared by the younger male intervening, holding the enraged brunette back, but just barely.
"Please, I-I have information! I have exactly what you want!"
"The only damn thing I want is my fucking kitten!" the brunette snarled, "Why can't you fucking people get that?!"
"I-I know where she is!" Rue said, covering her face in anticipation of being cut.
"Then spit it out," Yamato said, his tone becoming softer.
"Master Sora has her. He said if you want to see her, you have to go to him first. He-He wants you to face him is what he said, I think."
The brunette almost dropped his katana at his state of relaxation, filled with hope that he once again had a lead on the (h/c) haired girl. He had no idea if the platinum-haired girl was telling the truth or not, but he needed her to be. One more rejection would tear him apart and force him into a darkness he couldn't crawl out of no matter what happened. However, his grip immediately came back, clutching tightly onto his weapon as he processed that Sora was the one who had taken his kitten.
The ravenette ran through girls like there was no tomorrow, fucking them then leaving them to the side unless he had a special interest in them. What disturbed the brunette the most was Sora's father. Should he get his hands on the (h/c) haired girl, he'd rip her apart. Her stubborn attitude was likely to get her killed, and the brunette had no way of knowing how unscathed (Y/n) was. It worried him to no end and put rage into him that he couldn't control. As Yusei expected he would, the brunette sheathed his katana, tied his kimono up properly, pushed his hair back into place, and sprinted off.
Yusei followed closely behind him, Masaru, as well. Both were equally concerned for the clearly deranged brunette, knowing he would kill more than a few people that crossed his path, perhaps even innocent and unrelated people. However, the change in the brunette's attitude filled the younger male with hope. He had a hunch that Sora had taken (Y/n) but the consequences would be extraordinary.
Still, it hardly mattered anymore. Yamato wouldn't be stopped and Sora clearly wanted to see him face to face. If the older male was the one inciting the situation, it might have ended up slightly better. On the other hand, if Michi Gensai found out about the two clashing over a girl, he would destroy them both. It would have been unthinkable to him, and the (h/c) haired girl would go into his possession. From there, she would never return, that was certain. He had less tolerance than Sora, and that was saying something.
As the brunette rushed along the streets of the city, he knew exactly where he was headed. Though he only knew of it from reports, there had been enough incidents he had to deal with to allow him to memorize the location. Truly, the Gensai Group was a rapidly growing accumulation of troublemakers over the years Yamato had been dealing with them, but at that moment, he was grateful for having to handle them.
It wasn't long before the brunette arrived, the guards looking at him with an immense irritation or frustration. They clearly expected him and knew exactly he was, and though they made eye contact with one another, they decided not to mess with him or pick a fight with him even if they wanted to. There wasn't anything they could get away with without Sora punishing them for it, and no one wanted to get on his bad side.
Yamato wouldn't have let them stall him anyway, rushing past them as his companions followed him dedicatedly. Through the halls, he attracted the same strange looks from people who wanted to fight him, but the ones that tried were immediately taken care of. The first fool who stood in front of the brunette allowed him to make an example of others. He didn't even need to use his katana, kicking the male down with a harsh blow to the head then placing his sandal onto the male's head as if to show his dominance.
"Fuck off," the brunette growled, looking up and glaring at anyone else who wanted to get their asses handed to them.
No one dared challenge him after that, letting him make his way through the halls. He didn't know where to go, never having been inside the estate before, but someone stood in front of him, meant to show him the way. The grey-haired boy was timid and shy, but he led the brunette towards the elevator, lifting him up to the top floor where Sora was waiting in his bedroom. Somewhere, sometime, the brunette had the sinking suspicion he'd seen the grey-haired boy before.
As Yamato made his way over to the door of his master bedroom, he slammed it open with his foot, breaking the door significantly. Yusei gave a concerned look, sticking to the older male with a nervous feeling in his chest, dreading the sight of Sora. Masaru didn't seem to care about the situation, thrilled to see his master having a genuine motivation to move. But neither he or the younger boy was prepared to see their companion's response to what he saw behind the door.
