Chapter 34: Looking For Clues
Yusei was seated on the bed early in the morning, playing with the small kitten as it reached up to swat at its feather toy. The ravenette seemed truly enamored by the playful creature, his cheeks pink as he took great enjoyment in its eagerness to swat at a nonliving object. The two were in sync, taking note of the other's intentions before the small kitten began to attack the boy's belly.
Perhaps it thought it was being a scary beast, but, in truth, the animal's barrage of swats felt more like a small tickle than a brutal assault. Yusei took joy in its demeanor, observing how, after it attacked, it rubbed its cheek on where it attacked as if to apologize or numb the pain. The kitten's energy then depleted and it curled up on the boy's lap, snuggling into him as it drifted into sleep, comforted by its new owner's petting.
When the sun began to truly rise, the boy turned his head over at his friend who was beginning to wake up. Though he was nothing near being a morning person, it seemed his eagerness to find the (h/c) haired girl was making him change if only slightly. The brunette sat up in his bed, Masaru perking his head up as he felt the bed move. Yamato gave an exhausted groan as he woke up, placing his hand on his forehead as if he was sick.
"Breakfast?" Yusei asked, "Vethela is known for its crepes. Want one?"
"No," the brunette sighed, walking to the shower, "I want to start the search after I take a shower. You can get whatever you want."
The ravenette nodded his head, and pet his kitten on its head, making it purr happily. Yusei then began to get dressed, pulling a sweater over his head to combat the cold weather contrary to the climate in their home country. He then put on his pants, socks, shoes, and a scarf for good measure. The younger male then filled Masaru's bowl with some dog food and a treat Yamato had gotten the day before to fuel him up for the day ahead of him. The german shepherd was thrilled to eat, scarfing down his food, ignoring the kitten gnawing on his tail. Not long after, the yakuza heir walked out of the shower, rubbing his head with a towel.
The brunette then began to dress in a warm kimono, tying it tightly and snugly before he put on his sandals. One last time for good measure, the male rubbed his head with the towel, trying to get it as dry as possible. He then looked at himself in the mirror and inspected his facets, trying to seem as neatly looking as possible. Though (Y/n) wasn't there with him, he still wanted to look his best when he saw her next. The thought made his cheeks flush pink and he looked to the side with an embarrassed yet loving expression.
"Ready?" Yusei asked, stretching his arms behind his back, "I've got the address in my phone, so if we head over, we should be there in 3 hours or so."
Yamato nodded his head and inhaled deeply, dipping his head down and splashing his face with water. He then shook his head and followed the ravenette out of the room. Masaru trotted along right beside his master while the kitten stayed behind. Of course, the ravenette wouldn't have left the kitten by itself. In fact, he'd arranged for a pet sitter to watch over the creature and play with it for the time they were away. But before he left, he kneeled down to the kitten, pet its head, and put a kiss on its small, wobbling head, giving it goodbye.
The brunette led his loyal friend and dog down the elevator and through the hallways of the hotel. In front of the large building, a limousine was waiting for them. As they got inside, Masaru bounded on the seats, excited about where they were headed. He sat down in between the two males and looked from the left and to the right, his tongue sticking out as the car began to drive. His excitement didn't fade out the entire ride, only barking as he saw other dogs in the window or people he didn't recognize; which was nearly all of them.
Along the ride, Yamato relaxed in his car seat, listening to the audio recording Yusei had given him while tapping his foot impatiently. The ride made his nerves bundle up in anxious tangles which anyone could see was greatly affecting him. That being said, he tried to remain the calmest he possibly could the entire ride through. Yusei would occasionally start up a conversation with him, hoping to keep him sane.
When at last the car ride had stopped and they traveled an exhausting distance to get to where they suspected (Y/n) was. As they stepped out of the car, Masaru bolted out of the car and began to run around anywhere he could. Nearby people seemed to be afraid of the large dog, thinking him to be aggressive when he was just excited. As Yusei and Yamato stepped out of the car, some people began to stare and murmur to one another.
However, this was a normal thing for the pair. Firstly, they were dressed insanely different. While the younger boy had a casual outfit that blended in with the people in Vethela. Yet the older male had a traditional kimono on and sandals, obviously looking entirely foreign. The two also looked like brothers, one of them appearing much younger than the other with an aggressively large dog, barking and running around. They obviously weren't "normal" looking to the modernly chic country.
The two began to stroll down the main street of the large city, Yusei looking at his phone to lead them to their destination. Yamato kept turning his head, staying entirely too alert for his own good, even Masaru finding his master's behavior to be out of the ordinary. That being said, the german shepherd was far too occupied with trotting and showing himself off to any who would dare approach him or his companions.
Not too long after they began their journey, they found the hotel, looking up at the building with an anxious expression on their faces. Yamato, in particular, looked filled with a somber regret while simultaneously having an excited smile over anticipating seeing the (h/c) haired girl. Yusei gave a bittersweet smile at his friend's hopeful feelings, and put his hand on his shoulder, trying to support him in his own way.
They walked into the building, Masaru examining everything he could see, living or not, making a few people freeze when he approached them. The ravenette then handled the talking to people, beginning to have a conversation with the receptionist. He was trying to figure out the room number (Y/n) was supposedly in, trying to bargain with him to get the room key. It was a difficult endeavor, but having immense funds helped with such things.
Meanwhile, Yamato paced nervously back and forth. Every time he would hear a person walk into the lobby, his head turned in hope that it was (Y/n). Of course, finding her so easily just wasn't in his cards. Every time it would turn out to be someone else, he would become immediately discouraged, only to be comforted by Masaru. The german shepherd would nuzzle his nose into the male's arms to show him he wasn't alone. It seemed to be effective on the brunette, making him give a ghost of a smile at his pet's intentions.
It was then that Yusei meandered along, swinging room keys around his finger with a smile. He then beckoned the brunette to follow him. Of course, Yamato didn't linger in the slightest, all but bolting after the ravenette. He began to fiddle with his kimono, taking deep breaths, attempting to calm his ever-growing nerves. With every step he took, his nerves became more apparent, his breathing becoming more ragged and staggered.
"It's going to be fine," Yusei assured him, stopping in front of a door labeled "302".
Yamato didn't respond, his eyes darting around the place as he stood by the ravenette. Masaru sniffed at the wooden barrier and when he thoroughly inspected it, he placed his paw on it, looking back at the brunette. The action seemed to only spark more shaking in the male. He couldn't shake the feeling swelling inside of him, one mixed with not only hope, but fear and uncertainty.
Yusei then inserted the key into the lock and turned it, unlocking it before pausing, making sure Yamato would be alright to proceed. Without hesitation, the yakuza heir gripped onto the handle and pushed it forward, opening their access to the room. He then sprinted into it, looking panicked as he searched it, looking for any sign of the (h/c) haired girl. Masaru seemed to do the same, sniffing around intently.
The bed was messily and hastily made, the pillow compressed as if someone had been sleeping there. Meanwhile, there was a suitcase packed with mainly clothes and a few hygiene products such as a hairbrush, deodorant, etc. The brunette then turned his head to a closed door, frantically opening it to search inside the bathroom. However, there were only some towels on the sink counter and some water in the shower, insinuating it had been used recently.
The result the brown-haired male had seen in the room had hardly quelled his nerves. It only served to make him more nervous, wondering if he had just missed the girl he'd been trying so hard to find. Thus, he sat down on the bed and let out a heavy sigh, muttering to himself quietly as he ran his fingers through his hair. Masaru was still sniffing around the room, trying to see if he could recognize any scent.
"She's probably just out getting lunch or something," Yusei said quickly, trying to stop the male from becoming disheartened again, "If we wait here for a while, she'll come back. She left her suitcase and belongings here."
Yamato turned to the suitcase with a small curiosity burning in him. He began to take a few objects and articles of clothing out of it, and observed them carefully. His eyes narrowed immediately and he began frantically searching through the suitcase, carelessly throwing its contents onto the floor. In doing so, Masaru took interest in them and sniffed them, but only pulled away. He didn't recognize the scent at all.
"Who the fuck was in here?!" the brunette howled, "These aren't fucking (Y/n)'s!"
"The receptionist said the name of the room was under someone named Roselyne Choquet, but he also said the credit card she paid with was under the name (Y/n) Shiratori," Yusei said, worried, "She probably just changed her style."
"Then why the fuck don't they smell like her?! Why the fuck is there a business card here?!"
Yamato ripped the card in half, glaring angrily at it as he crushed it under his foot. His nerves had dissipated, replaced by rage and the desire to kill. Instead of leaving right away, the brunette sat down in a chair and began to wait. Though it wasn't patient, the yakuza heir tapping his foot angrily, he had no other clues about where the (h/c) haired girl was. So the person that was staying in the room (Y/n) was supposed to in had to have some idea of where she was.
Yusei had left to grab the three some food to eat while waiting, and though he had come back approximately an hour later, there was no sign of anyone else. So they continued to wait, albeit angrily. Masaru nodded off on the bed after he ate his biscuits, snoozing easily. However, when he heard the door opening, his head perked up and he became on edge, growling at whoever was approaching.
As a short brown-haired woman entered the room, she dropped her purse upon seeing three unfamiliar figures, one of them a beastly-like animal aggressively growling at her. She gave a terrified expression and dropped to the floor, putting her arms up in defense before she felt Yamato grabbing at them and pulling her up. She then began to whimper, but the yakuza heir wasn't having it.
"Who the fuck are you?!" he shouted, tossing her to the bed, "Better start talking or I'll lose my temper. In case I have to spell it out for you, if I don't get my fucking answers, I won't guarantee your safety."
"What do you want?" the woman cowered.
"Why did you pay with (Y/n) Shiratori's credit card?" the brunette interrogated the woman.
"I-I didn't pay! I was sent here on a business trip. My company paid for it."
"What's your company's name?"
"Labyrinth Navigations. We're an international company that specializes in the technology for car GPS and ship's internal parts. We secondarily provide services for engineering. I work in the - "
"I didn't ask about you," Yamato said bluntly albeit intimidating, "What is the name of your company's CEO?"
"Uh, Brice Dalton!"
"A foreigner? From Afrua, I think," Yusei stated, "I think I've heard of a Dalton and Labyrinth Navigations before. They're based in Afrua, but they also do business in Athain and Echal. They're trying to expand with Vethela, too, but Yasojiro Technologies has a large market here. So the story checks out, but something here's not right."
Masaru, seeing the woman was no threat, laid down and began to observe the two males talking quietly to one another, trying to solve the puzzle. Though they couldn't quite put their finger on it, the answer was on the tip of their tongue, taunting and teasing them. When the brunette was about to lose it and take out his frustration on the woman, Yusei began to type on his laptop, pulling up both the company and the executive officer.
"It looks like the company is one that originated from EvoMech," the ravenette continued, "It seems they hired Dalton to run Labyrinth Navigations to focus their efforts on more primary companies. The CEO of EvoMech is named Fumihiro Akiyama, but how that relates to this, I don't know."
"EvoMech is a rival company to Yasojiro Technologies," Yamato sighed, "They're a rival to Shota, so I guess we look at him next. He's probably trying to put the blame on them. I'll call him up real quick. Do me a favor and keep an eye on her."
The brunette took out a phone from his pocket and began to dial the redhead's number, beginning a conversation with him. At the same time, just in case the male had nothing to do with (Y/n)'s disappearance, the yakuza heir had to talk carefully to avoid him knowing that he ever had (Y/n) with him. Meanwhile, Yusei sat down on the edge of the bed next to the terrified woman who clearly had no idea what was going on.
"I wouldn't worry about anything," the ravenette assured her, "We won't hurt you. It's clear you have nothing to do with this. After a while, we'll be on our way."
The woman didn't reply, only looked to the side at Masaru who had significantly calmed down from growling aggressively. Nonetheless, the dog terrified her and she decided to make herself look smaller and less intimidating in the case the dog decided to attack. Of course, the german shepherd wouldn't have done anything to the woman unless she had a weapon or an intimidating stance.
"Shota doesn't know anything," Yamato sighed, "He said he's never met the Akiyama's and that his father's pretty strict on leaving them be. So I don't know what to fucking do now!"
"Calm down," the ravenette said, feeling his heart clench, "I'll look into it."
Yusei got on his laptop and began to do intense research on the companies they were informed about and the Akiyama family as well. As the ravenette began to peruse through countless information sites and personal records of dealings with the company, Yamato sat down next to the woman. He glared at her with an intense fire behind his pupils, raging internally as his frustration reached an all-time high.
"What business do you have here?" he asked, clarifying his question by adding, "You said you had a business trip. What is it for?"
"I'm here to negotiate with a deal in Vethela concerning regional increases in demand for our technology. With a few other coworkers, we're attempting to expand our branch in Kelin to the west to here."
"I see," the brunette sighed, "But why does a navigation company need to set up a branch here? Why can't you export your products to car or boat companies?"
"We're in the middle of combining our company with a manufacturing company for cars. The problem is purchasing the company from the manufacturing executives."
"This is getting us nowhere," Yamato groaned, throwing his head back in annoyance.
Yusei lifted his head from his laptop to see the brunette slamming his head against the wall repeatedly. When he stopped, he rubbed his forehead and let out a shout of irritation. He then shoved his palms onto the wall, denting it before he was satisfied. Even then, he began to trot about in frustration. Not too long after, he gave up and stopped pacing, opening the door and walking out. Before he was out of sight of the ravenette, he shouted out.
"We're going back to Athain," he stated loudly, Masaru following after the male.
Yusei packed his computer back in his bag, rushing after his companion. The three rode all three hours back to their hotel, reuniting with the small kitten that jumped at the three approaching, fearing the brunette as the door slamming open. However, as the ravenette pet it, the creature relaxed and fell soon asleep. Not too long after, they fell asleep. This time, the audio recording of (Y/n)'s voice was not enough to calm the brunette. Something would die by his hands, he all but assured it.
