Chapter 31: Perception Changes
Sora was still laying down with Seraphina and (Y/n), putting more attention on the latter than the former, all but ignoring the navy-haired girl. Though the (h/c) haired girl seemed shy when playing with his hair, he encouraged her to keep doing it, gently petting her every once in a while. Of course, his definition of "gentle" differed from hers, but he put care into his actions around her nonetheless.
And as time passed, the male found himself relaxing further and closing his eyes, resting his head next to (Y/n)'s. When he went a few minutes without doing anything, just breathing lightly, his cigarette falling from his mouth, the younger girl deduced he was asleep. She took the cigarette from his lips and put it out on an ashtray near the bed. Seraphina watched the two, cocking an eyebrow as the ravenette almost cuddled the (h/c) haired girl.
He looked like a small child snuggling with his favorite teddy bear, and (Y/n) was that teddy bear for the time being. The male was warm, warmer than she would have believed just by looking at him, and his embrace was full of care. While it was slightly awkward between the two girls that remained there as the ravenette slept, Seraphina didn't look as though she had any intention to leave.
The navy-haired girl gave a small sigh and began wandering around the room, looking for something or perhaps for nothing at all. Meanwhile, (Y/n) was all but trapped in the ravenette's arms, subject to his make-shift hugging. Every now and again, he would let out a random murmur or sigh only to become silent once more. He seemed at peace, and yet, at the same time, not at all.
Since the girl wasn't able to move away from the ravenette, she was subjected to falling asleep in the room with him. She was able to sleep without an issue, the bed being far more comfortable than any she had laid in before and her dreams were peaceful. Sora hadn't bothered her or woken her up in the middle of the night. In fact, it was peaceful there, and she felt incredibly safe.
And when she woke up, she found herself still beside the ravenette, the faint glow of dawn reaching through the balcony windows. It was early in the morning, but still, she found that Sora was awake, looking down at her. He seemed surprised to see she was awake, even more so to see she hadn't left him in the middle of the night. Seeing her still there after the countless hours they slept together was touching.
"Good morning, girly," he grinned slightly, "We didn't fuck, did we? I would've liked to remember that."
"So vulgar so early in the morning," the girl groaned, rolling her eyes.
"I'm only messin' with ya," Sora chuckled, "Well, I'm glad you stayed with me. Wanna get somethin' to eat? I'm in the mood for a parfait. We'll feed Toma while we're at it."
The ravenette sat up and stretched his arms behind his back, giving a large yawn. He then moved to his closet and pulled out some clothes that were of his style. It was a simple tank top, black jacket, and some ripped jeans. He had the dignity to change elsewhere so (Y/n) wouldn't have to see him strip and redress, but when he came out, he held a set of clothing for the girl to wear. He threw it at her, landing just in front of her on the bed, laying flat for her to peruse it and see if she wanted to wear it.
Before, when the ravenette had given her a tight black dress, he seemed quite interested in how it looked. Yet he had just thrown her a flowing and embroidered white dress that covered most of her skin from prying eyes. Why he had such an outfit in his room, she would never know, but he had it, and she didn't mind the comfortable feeling of it either. Changing into it was not at all tight or difficult. In fact, the outfit was flattering on her figure, albeit suspicious that it was just her size.
"Didn't take you for a mornin' birdie," Sora sighed, looking at himself in the mirror as he moved a stray hair away from his eyes.
"I could say the same," the (h/c) haired girl said, stepping out from the make-shift changing room she had used, straightening out her dress.
The ravenette looked over at (Y/n), taking in the way she looked in the dress. He let a small grin grace his features, admiring the way the outfit flattered the girl's innocence. He knew she was hardly hidden from the dark or gruesome things that Yamato had done or others that had scarred and traumatized her. However, despite it all, she held that same look of peaceful serenity in her (e/c) pupils.
"You don't look half bad," he said, ruffling her hair as he opened the door to his room, revealing the hallway they began to walk down, "Personally, I would've preferred somethin' tight, but what can you do? Maybe next time."
"In your dreams," the (h/c) haired girl said, crossing her arms over her chest with an annoyed expression.
"Well," the ravenette smirked, using the younger girl's head as an armrest, "I'm startin' to see why Kage was so interested in you. Tell me 'bout you two. What'd you do together? Can't imagine him going on a date. Can't see him doin' anythin' with a girl, really."
As Sora spoke, he seemed to be trying to answer his question to her himself, debating how much he knew about the rival yakuza heir. He tilted his head from side to side, grumbling about this or that before sighing in defeat. The ravenette then turned to the (h/c) haired girl for answers about his curious puzzle. Though he claimed to hate or despise Yamato, he seemed genuinely interested in what he did with his free time. That in itself was oddly curious to the younger girl.
"It's nothing much, I guess," she responded, stepping into the elevator with the ravenette as he pushed a button to go down to the ground floor, "He doesn't have a lot of time to go on dates, but, from what I can tell, he likes them. Most of the time, he just hugs me close to him. It's rare for him to be next to me without touching me in some way."
"Oh?" Sora snickered, "He handsy?"
"What? No," (Y/n) said, feeling shivers down her spine, "Just small touches. Like holding my hand or leaning my head on his shoulder. He doesn't touch me inappropriately. Ever."
"How borin'," the ravenette sighed, disappointed in the brunette, "Well, can't expect much from the guy. Interestin' that you're defendin' him now though."
(Y/n) felt her muscles tense in her body as the male pointed out the obvious. She hadn't believed she would defend Yamato, especially after the things he had done, but it seemed her heart wasn't ready to give the brunette up. It was a repulsive thought to think she would speak with that level of denial in her voice, most importantly with words that made him sound like a better person. How Sora saw through it when she couldn't was beyond her.
"I wouldn't worry 'bout it," the ravenette sighed, walking out of the elevator, the girl following briskly after him, "Kage's got a way with workin' his way in other people's hearts. It's not that he's a bad guy either. He's just got an 'air of authority' about him or whatever the fuck. People love him."
"Do I sense a hint of jealousy, oh great Sora Gensai?" the (h/c) haired girl snickered.
The ravenette smirked and rested his arms behind his head. Though he didn't deny the accusation, he didn't affirm it either. Instead, he left it to the girl to decide which it was. She seemed curious about him, but until he got something in return for answers, he wouldn't share. At least, not yet. He seemed more intent on observing for the time being, but not interfering or acting in one way or another.
"Interesting," she snickered, rushing forward just a bit to keep up with the male's large strides, "No snarky comments?"
"None," the male chuckled.
The (h/c) haired girl gave a small smile and turned her head away as they reached the dining hall. There seemed to be no one there, considering how early in the morning it was, but there were still a few drunken individuals loafing around the place. The place still reeked of alcohol and smoke that was clearly from the night's previous party, but it appeared almost vacant, most of its attendants tucked into bed with hangovers to come.
As the ravenette led the girl up to the lunch counter, (Y/n) saw the individuals in the kitchen begin to rush to grab a parfait with all kinds of fruits ranging from strawberries to dragonfruit. It had an awful lot of attention put into it, being not only visually appealing, but clearly delicious as well. It made the girl wonder why something with so much care was made in advance when the male seemed to have the want to eat the treat at the spur of a moment. Noticing her curious expression, her nose scrunched up, he gave a small snicker.
"I have routine cravings," he chuckled, resting his elbow on the girl's head.
The man at the lunch counter handed Sora his parfait, giving a respectful, yet fear-filled bow then turned his attention to (Y/n). He then looked from the girl to the ravenette, and then back again. It seemed everything revolved around Sora in more ways than one. Even being next to him prompted curiosity about oneself. It was strange to see how much sway and influence Sora had in the estate.
"What can I get you?" the man at the lunch counter asked, trying to avoid eye contact with the powerful ravenette.
"Would it be alright to ask for some pancakes?" the girl asked, tilting her head.
The ravenette's gaze lingered on the (h/c) female's strange actions when she asked a question or scrunched her nose in curiosity. It was genuinely interesting to see such an animated person, and he found himself wondering what she would do next, should she be prompted. Then again, that kind of thinking wasn't near the person he was, so he looked away, fiddling with a spoon as he waited for the girl's meal to come out.
Though waiting wasn't something he liked to do - rather, he abhorred the boredom it came with - he still found himself standing next to (Y/n) as she waited. He distracted himself by tapping his foot or taking interest in some drunk individual stumbling on their own feet, but still, he waited. For what reason, he didn't even try to figure out, but it was kept at the back of his mind. Not entirely conscious about his feelings towards the (h/c) haired girl, they still held sway over his actions, making him do things he never would have beforehand.
And as the girl was handed her pancakes and side of fruits, his grey and magenta eyes lit up as he watched her reaction change. It seemed like everything impacted her, and it puzzled him at the same time. Even her small steps were enough to take his mind away from his surroundings, making him walk into a table without realizing it was there. He gave a grunt of pain as he felt the uncomfortable sensation that came with the obstacle, and promptly let his cheeks glow an embarrassed pink.
"Did you drink when I wasn't watching?" (Y/n) asked, giving a small chuckle at the male's state.
The way her voice sounded when she let out a giggle made Sora pause, staring intently at her lips with a bizarre focus. When she bent down to see what he was looking at, gazing up at his eyes, he turned his head away, covering his mouth and narrowing his eyes. The younger girl once again chuckled at his odd behavior, only making him realize more and more how he felt about her. Though, due to his prideful personality, he didn't fully acknowledge the new feelings he was adapting, warping them into something different than what it truly was.
"What's up with you?" the (h/c) haired girl questioned, now a concerned tone in her voice.
The ravenette turned his head back to look at the girl, finding his heart moving merely at the sight of a face that was worried for him. He moved his hand from his mouth to hover over where his heart would have been, looking down at it with a cocked eyebrow. Coming to a semi-realization, his head jolted up to make eye contact with the confused girl and spoke completely seriously, showing no sign of shame by what he said.
"I think I wanna fuck you," Sora announced, an intent look on his face.
The (h/c) haired girl looked quickly away and scooted a fair distance away from the male before turning slowly, intending on eating elsewhere. However, the ravenette only scurried up to her and put his hand on her shoulder, his expression turning from a serious one into one of anger. He didn't seem to appreciate her acting that he hadn't said anything or escaping from the situation. Rejection wasn't something he dealt with kindly.
"I'm talkin' to you," he growled, "I wanna fuck you. You should be flattered."
"Oh, is that what this feeling is?" (Y/n) asked, "I thought it was shocking disgust."
Sora's eyes narrowed further and dragged the girl back to where he typically sat, shoving her in a seat and sitting next to her. She couldn't decide whether she wanted to address what the ravenette had just said or if she wanted to eat in peace. Knowing she couldn't escape the situation with such a prideful and egocentric person, the younger girl just began to eat her breakfast, looking to the other side of the room as if the ravenette didn't exist.
Meanwhile, the male began to observe the girl curiously, annoyed, and appalled at her reaction. It just wasn't what he had expected, but it didn't unnerve him nor did it deter him. Unfortunately for (Y/n), Sora wasn't one to give up without a fight, and even then, he'd make sure he would win the fight. It appeared a large battle between the two was being set up, and the ravenette wouldn't allow himself to lose.
"Are you the type that doesn't want to fuck until they're married?" the ravenette asked, beginning to eat his luxurious parfait.
"Did I say that?" the (h/c) haired girl replied neutrally, "Maybe it's just you."
"That can't be it," Sora scoffed, throwing his arm around her and pulling her closer, "I'm hot, I'm rich, I'm young, I'm charming, and I'm good in bed. What's not to like?"
The girl's eyes trailed to the male beside her slowly, obviously doubting his thought process's capabilities. He didn't seem to recognize that he wasn't as great as he said he was. At least, not in (Y/n)'s eyes just yet. For the time being, he seemed pompous and self-absorbed even if he could be caring at times. Not to mention, she wasn't particularly fond of the idea of getting involved with another guy, especially since Yamato was still out there. And especially because he was still in her mind and heart.
"If you want someone to touch you, go get someone from your harem," the (h/c) haired girl said, slipping out of the ravenette's embrace and resuming her breakfast.
"You don't get it," the male scoffed, "I'm sayin' I want you."
"And I'm saying I don't want you," (Y/n) concluded.
She then took her plate and put it back on the lunch counter, suddenly feeling her appetite gone even if the meal was delicious. As she walked out of the door, she found herself looking down the hallway for any sign of Enmei or Asuka, wondering if they could show her some fun. She could certainly use the thrill of something new, especially knowing that Sora was more interested in her than she initially thought.
Meanwhile, Sora lost his appetite as well, resting his chin in the palm of his hand as he watched others flow in for an early breakfast. He grumbled at the rejection he'd just been dealt, but didn't pout. Instead, he stood up from his seat, leaving the parfait where it was, and began to leave the room. Turning his head, he saw the (h/c) haired girl walking down the corridor. Though he had a different reason for going the way she was, his pride wouldn't allow him to recognize it.
"Well, I've gotta study up on what Kage's doin' anyway," he mumbled to himself, rubbing the back of his neck nervously, following after (Y/n).
. . .
"Where the fuck is my katana?!"
The yakuza heir was rummaging through countless drawers and closets in his estate, making a mess of every room he stepped into. The servants looked at him in distress, seeing his disheveled state, but didn't interrupt him, knowing he would only turn his stressed state onto them. Masaru stood by while his master fiddled with everything that could possibly hide his prized weapon, only glad to see him back at home.
"Kage," Yusei said, rushing into the room, clearly out of breath as he panted, resting his arms on his knees, "I packed it. The flight is waiting, so we have to hurry."
"Oh," Yamato sighed, all his stress fading, "I thought someone stole it. Next time, warn me, will you?"
"Sorry, sorry, but I was in a rush, and I didn't know if you were going to forget it or not," the young ravenette chuckled, ushering the older male out of the room.
With that, the two began their journey to Vethela, where they suspected and hoped that (Y/n) was. Though the brunette was hardly in a calmed mood, he had himself together, and was beginning to act like his normal self, just through the mention of the (h/c) haired girl's name. It seemed that the traveling they had before them would be longer than the brunette would have liked. In fact, it all seemed a test to him, but he would go through it if it meant that (Y/n) was safe and back in his arms.
And so the hunt begins.
