5. The Skeleton Well
There are always bars in every town, but this one was different. It was still the time when people had wells, so there weren't many types of beer to sell, but a man by the name of Skeleto sold them anyway.
No one knew why he was called Skeleto, or why his tavern was called The Well, but they were called such without much question. His beer was cheap and tasty, and he offered warm beds for travelers without fees. He was a gentle and caring man that all the children loved.
One day, a traveler called Key headed into the town. Naturally, he stopped by the tavern and saw many people enjoying their beers. He ordered a beer, and Skeleto came over and introduced himself.
"I saw that you weren't from around here, and I happen to have a guest bed upstairs, if you have no where else to stay."
Grateful, Key took the offer, finished his beer, and headed right away to go sleep. He was exhausted from traveling, and a free bed was more that welcome.
It was around midnight, when the tavern was closed and everyone was asleep, that Key awoke suddenly. He looked up to find the tavern owner, Skeleto, cowered over him. Shrinking back in fear, Key stood up and put out his hands to protect himself from the gleaming knife in his attacker's hand.
Skeleto smiled. "You will be a perfect addition to my well."
Key was a skilled man in combat, and the man weilding a knife was no match for him. In no time at all, Key had Skeleto tied up and the knife in Key's hand. "Now, where was this 'well' you spoke of?"
With the looming death by knife towering over him, Skeleto lead them to the back, where, true to his word, a deep well was dug into the dirt. It was made of stone, and, heaven forbid, there was blood rimming the bricks at the edge.
Key peered into the well, and found at least seven skeletons laying there. Backing away quickly, Key formed a plan. "I am leaving to go get the police. You shall stay in the well until I return."
Skeleto screamed at that. Begging on his knees, his pleaded with Key to so anything to him but put him in the well. Key paid no mind and gently tossed the tied man into the pit.
A few minutes later, Key returned with the police. They all peered into the well, and what they saw would haunt them for the rest of their lives.
It was Skeleto, all right, but only his bones. He was missing all of his skin and innerds, with only flecks of blood remaining. Speaking of blood, the other skeletons in the well had blood on their faces and teeth, as if they had eaten him.
The skeletons had eaten Skeleto.
