Late in the summer

A snake quickly veered

Slipped under my couch

And then disappeared

Where did small snake go?

Down floor vent I feared

Now a month has passed

Through that time, I peered

Winter service checks

Did not reveal snake

Still in long ductwork?

Asleep or awake?

Or did small snake find

A corner to hide

Someday in future

Will I freeze mid-stride?

I just hope he found

The path he came in

And made his exit

Returned to his kin
