Why does a lone wren sing?

As autumn stretches her wing

His tone so loud and clear

A trill that tickles my ear

Babies have flown away

Mate has no reason to stay

Why does he sing at dawn?

When family is long gone

Calling to other wrens

To meet in the forest's glen

To fly to warmer lands

Create a traveling band

No wren will sing from rail

As snowy winter winds rail

Til spring I'll have to wait

To hear wren sing for his mate

As spring stretches her wings

I'll wait to hear lone wren sing

His tone so loud and clear
