Quiet Steps
Walk out my door; step towards deck rail
Dry leaves rustle; I spy white tail
I freeze mid step; I watch brown blur
As three deer bound toward dark green fir
When will I learn to step outside
With quiet steps; eyes opened wide
Sometimes Nature sends a surprise
And by now I should be more wise
I stand and watch the small group browse
Slowly they stroll through pine tree boughs
I line up peanuts on deck rail
Watch birds glide in on feather sail
Soon it's time for my morning walk
Listen closely for Nature's talk
Woodpecker taps for breakfast grub
Crows loud caws from treetop club
I'm lucky I can start my day
Embrace myself in Nature's sway
I'm grateful for a quiet start
Launch my day with a tranquil heart
