Morning Routine
Sleepy feet slap hardwood floor
Stumble through my bedroom door
Down short hall to bathroom tasks
Hands rub face of drowsy mask
Stub my toe and language slips
Eyes closed tight and both hands grip
Rearranged my living room
Result is a painful boon
Hobble, looking for my shoes
Give up for a kitchen cruise
Pour a glass of morning juice
Hear loud honk of passing goose
Then blue jays call from woods
Chuckle at the morning brood
Then I hear red cardinal's song
Time to move routine along
Quickly dress and putter out
Peanuts grabbed for dawn's handout
Blue jays, cardinals flit around
As I lay brown peanuts down
Before I can reach my chair
Peanuts gone, deck rail is bare
Walk back to lay down more nuts
I sure love my morning strut
