In the garden on the ground

A busy world can be found

Worms and beetles, spiders too

As I weed, I watch the view

Never know what I will find

Hidden secrets can unwind

Praying mantis, garden's gem

Egg case on a long hard stem

Hear a tweet behind my back

Sparrow hunting for seed snack

Dig a hole for a new plant

Listen to a robin's rant

Chirping from a nearby shrub

Hoping for a curled white grub

Toss one on asphalt driveway

Robin swoops and snatches prey

Hand trowel scrapes a hidden block

Dig around and pull up rock

Many colors swirl through stone

Toss into rock garden zone

Many items have been found

When I dig beneath the ground

Broken glass in garden bed

Poor choice from a thoughtless head

Metal sailboat still has mast

Somehow buried in the past

Plastic solider still intact

Lost in battle reenact

Acorn with a sprouted root

Under bush a lizard scoots

Garden spider grabs a bug

Rolls bug in a silky rug

Garden gems are found each day

More than just a plant display

Small discoveries, some delight
