Children

Much like humans, it takes a newly hatched dragonet one or two years to learn how to properly fly. If they don't have a parent or guardian dragon that teaches them then it may take up to four years for them to learn. For dragonets and dragons that are wingless, which sometimes happens with earth dragonets and water dragonets, they have more restrictions than flying dragonets have and are not allowed to go wherever they want.

Each nation has different traditions for newly hatched or still in the egg dragonets. For the fire nation, eggs are put in giant fire nests and stay there until they are ready to hatch. Then they are brought to the hatchery that their parents have and are allowed to hatch. For the water nation, eggs are in the water and in nests made of seaweed, when they are ready to hatch they are brought to a different nest with other hatching dragons. For the earth nation, they are in comfortable nests that their parents have and stay their until they hatch. For the sky nation they are on huge peaks in the sky and in rested in bowl shaped stones that have lots of leaves and moss on them.

Noble dragonets and eggs that are in the spirit nation are put in a beautiful nests with the rest of their siblings and taken proper care of until they hatch. When they are done hatching they are brought to their parents.

For dragonets and eggs that are children of the royal family, they are not put in nests with the rest of the Spirit nations eggs and dragonets. They are placed in the royal hatchery, one of the most well protected places on earth. It has seventy guards that have been trained since birth, each one specially trained in protecting the eggs. Thirty five guardian dragons are inside of the royal hatchery while the other thirty five are outside surrounding it from all sides, including the ground.
