Chapter Nineteen: Convincing The Demigods
Point of View: Third Person
As they take a cab to the greek encampment, Adrien talks adamantly after filling Phoebe in on what's transpiring. "The Greeks will be the hardest to commit." Phoebe tells him.
"Agreed." Adrien nods, helping Phoebe out of the cab and paying the driver. They walk up the hill and Peleus doesn't even stop them.
But as they reach the crest of Half-Blood hill, the conch horn sounds three times, despite a Hunter being in sight. The other six of the seven are at the front, looking a little more than just suspicious and very angry.
"You dare bring a mutt here, huntress?" Jason steps forward.
Adrien bristles. "Do not speak to her in that way, boy. She did not bring me here, I walked past the border of my own fre will and without the help of her or another demigod." All eyes widen. "Surprise, not a monster anymore. You'll find our section in your little bestiary is now gone and we are put into magical creatures. Friends of nature as always and our patron goddess is Lady Artemis. I'd watch my tongue if I were you."
"Why are you here? We don't welcome your kind here anyways." Annabeth snaps.
Chiron canters forth and aces a hand on the shoulders of Annabeth and Jason. "Now, even though I do not like it, if their patron is Artemis, we must honor that they are now allowed across the border and will not be harmed."
"How touching." Adrien rolls his eyes and Phoebe giggles.
Chiron's eyes turn to slits. "Why are you here?"
"I am the bearer of bad news it seems." Adrien chuckles as he smirks at them. "An enemy of old has arisen and is targeting not only my kind, but all of the forces of Olympus. Stay away from the shadows, even if you are a child of the underworld. He might just kill you without thinking about it. Your council has skittishly agreed to work together with us."
"Tell me, must we accomodate you?" Chiron changes the topic.
"I assume you mean where would we stay if ever we choose to come here." Adrien sighs. "I have no idea. I am not my King. I may be an alpha, but I would rather my King make the decision. However, I can tell you. Just make an open air space for us with trees or something. we won't visit that often."
Then someone unexpected comes in. "I thought I sensed something familiar, but I never would have thought to think you'd stoop so low to find a place in the world." Gorver Underwood walks to stand in front of Adrien. "Hello, Percy." Grover smirks.
"Ah, yes. The empathy link. Not yet burned away by my transformation. It'll be gone in a few weeks. But, I'm afraid you are somewhat wrong, satyr. My name is Adrien and being one of my kind is one of the best paths to take." Adrien speaks.
"Lady Artemis honors all werewolves. You'd do well to remember that." Phoebe says darkly.
Grover sighs. "Yes, yes. I believe satyrs would be better suited to make room in the camp for you. We are more tapped into nature like you."
"Hmm. Generous." Adrien comments.
"I am so glad you could rejoin us. Why come to us for help though?" Grover's smile is tight.
"Hmph." Phoebe turns her back to the all, looking out of the corners of her eyes at Adrien.
"Right, I'm not sure I want the help of infants, however, your parents were so keen on my asking you. At least Romans, real Romans," Adrien looks askance at Hazel, Frank, and Jason. "Are capable of having brains, unlike the Greeks. And you have children of Athena. What a laugh." Adrien does laugh and heartily. "So, die here on your own without our help if you do decide to show up on the battelfields or fight with us to save your sorry lives. Face it, Romans are better and always will be. You can stay here like cowards or die a noble deat hdefending your precious parents who hardly lift a finger or even love you."
"Since when are you so bitter?" Piper snivles.
Adrien's nose wrinkles. "Oh man." He looks disgusted. "You poor little thing." He barks with laughter. "Looks like you were betrayed by pretty boy, such love. And that's all you ever wanted. Serves you right. What'd you do? Catch them like I did? Or did someone else admit to you that I was right?"
Piper runs off crying, making Adrien boom with laughter.
"What's wrong with you?!" Leo comes up to Adrien, backing off a little when he realizes he is much shorter than Adrien.
"Hmm, I am a bit different and I don't really like you or demigods in general really. It's an...acquired feeling and mutual between my kin and I. I can only stand Romans, true Romans, and those who are a part of the Hunt." Adrien says and crosses his arms. "Got a problem, elf?"
Leo grunts. "I am not that short."
Adrien uses his hand and measures that Leo is barely below his chest before putting his arm back over his chest. "Whatever you say, fireboy."
"Why should we fight?" Clarisse shoves her way past everyone else.
Adrien smirks. "I don't know. Why should you? After all, he'll be coming after the demigods first. And if you won't fight, we won't defend you or your little camp. Not unless you swallow your pride and drop to your knees begging until your voice fails you. And even then it might not happen. Good luck with that though."
"Very well, we will aid you." Chiron snaps.
"Lovely. Good chat. Off to the Roman encampment then. Ready, Phoebe?" Adrien turns to his best friend.
Phoebe nods. "New Rome is far better than this rundown place full of shacks in my opinion. Besides, too many fools, traitors, and imbeciles here for my liking. And boys."
Adrien chuckles as they walk down to the pavilion together. They walk through the portal to the Field of Mars, alarming many demigods and sounding the alert. Reyna is at the front of the line and then she waves for arms to be lowered. "Phoebe? Is that you? Of the Hunt?"
Phoebe nods. "Yes, Reyna. It is I."
"Why have you brought a werewolf? Why did you let him in? How did he get through the portal?" Reyna fires questions at her.
"Calm down, Reyna." Phoebe says. "How about we discuss this over food? I'm starving."
Reyna nods slowly. "Return to your posts and duties! All of you!"
The crowd disperses and Reyna leads Adrien and Phoebe to her home in New Rome, albeit cautiously due to Adrien. She serves them tea and sandwiches. "Alright, then. Explain."
Over the course of two hours, Reyna gets the full scoop.
"So, we searched over a year for you when it wasn't necessary? Apollo didn't think to tell us?" Reyna replies.
"Yes." Adrien nods.
Reyna sighs. "It wasn't a total waste and we would never give up on someone so loved and loyal to the legion. Plus, we got to toughen up many and get more experience. I am glad that you have found happiness though."
"How is your happiness coming along, Reya?" Adrien inquires.
Reyna grins. "I am engaged to Dakota. Who knew he was such a swetheart and if you get him up to it, he can be very commanding. He is my colleague. My fellow praetor. It is such a load off. Makes my job easier it does."
"So, are you in?" Phoebe implores.
Reyna grins mischievously. "You bet. Dakota!"
"Yeah! Got it!" Dakota calls back, returning to his place at the table. "I'm hyped. Let's kick Nightfall's hind end."
"You know more than the Greeks. My patience wore too thin. So, you can fill them in if you want. I assume they are in an outrage." Adrien shrugs. "I'll be along."
"We will set up a little place for when you and your kind visit." Reyna smiles, completely genuine.
"I have the perfect place." Lupa flashes in. "In my backyard. It is where my wolves settle. Tell me, Adrien, pup, are we now welcome among your kind to enter?"
Adrien chuckles. "I suppose, but you should really ask my father."
"I did. He said it requires the consent of all alphas. It is wonderful news to hear. A safe haven and one less enemy to deal with when traveling. Thank you." Lupa kisses his cheek.
Adrien nods. "No problem. I am sure the others would like new faces around that understand them, even if your wolves can't turn human. We still understand animal. Much better than satyrs too."
"I see you have made a very strong bond to this Hunter in particular." Lupa laughs.
Phoebe looks at Adrien incredulously. "What is she talking about?" She asks nervously.
"Only three people other than my mate may befriend me for the person that I really am. Someone I trust absolutely. Lycaon said it'd be like an actual bff type thing. But stronger than that. You apparently feel it as well once I admit it to you. But I haven't yet truly admitted it to you. I was waiting until we were running with you again." Adrien laughs.
"Oh, okay..." Phoebe smiles hugely. "Sounds great."
