         Lucious

After I end the retribution for the day, I walk with Lisa, heading back to the house. I look over at her as we walk, looking at the blood from the females that now stains her clothes.

I watch her as we walk, not understanding her. It's okay to have a righteous heart, but the human world has left her soft. Those males and females are trying to kill her every second of the fight, but she chooses to spare someone who won't do the same for her if they had the choice to kill or spare her life, I don't get it.

Why spare someone who will not do the same for you?

Her human ways won't don't her any good here but make her weak. She needs to understand that it's kill or be killed in our world.

"You don't want to fight, so why continue to put yourself through this when you can easily stop it all?" I ask trying to understand her.

"Killing them isn't necessary. Until I'm left with no other choice but to kill, then I won't do so. Will you not spare a person who's wounded and clearly unable to fight?" She asks, looking over at me as we walk.

"If they were out to kill me, then wounded or not, I will kill them without thinking twice," I tell her meaning it. Why would I have mercy on someone who has none for me?

"I guess we just see things differently Lucious." She shakes her head, looking away.

"Letting their claims to retribution drag out won't do you any good. Every day that you let pass, they are watching and learning, studying your movements. You're only allowing them to come at you with a better plan than the ones before them. What if one of them gets lucky and manages to badly wound you?" I frown, knowing I won't be able to just stand there and watch her be killed no matter what the pack law says.

"That won't happen." She says, sounding sure of herself.

"How can you be so sure?" I ask.

"They're predictable. Whoever trained them should've done a better job." She says insulting uncle Jax training skills.

Approaching the house, I continue to walk past the house, while she turns up the Driveway of the house.

She stops, looking over at me as I continue to walk, not turning down the driveway with her. "Where are you going Lucious?" She asks.

I stop looking back over my shoulder at her. "To the clinic to check on the wounded," I tell her.

Once I get to the clinic, I head to the room where the wounded warriors are. They're awake this time. Their mates are here, helping to feed them their food.

"They're still in bad shape, but their wolves are starting to slowly try to heal their bodies. Their inner wolves are still very weak, but it's trying." The healer stops next to me, giving me an update on the men.

I watch the men as they eat, some wincing in pain at the slightest movement.

My jaws clench as I look at the men, thinking about all the good men that lost their lives. These men are lucky to have survived. They fought and risked their lives just like all the other men who didn't walk away from the fight alive.

They didn't fight for my father but fought for me. My father may have been their king, but I'm their alpha and their loyalty lies with me. Father led this pack once the same as his father once did, but once father became king of the wolves he had to take on different duties for all wolves, not just the pack, so he let uncle Jax take over the pack until I became of age to claim my birthright as alpha.

Over all the passing years that I have led this pack, these men have become more than just warriors to me, they have become good friends. They're not just some expendable warriors who I'll just replace with their sons once they're gone. We're a pack and pack is family.

I stay at the clinic for a while, talking and checking up on the men, showing them that their loyalty doesn't go overlooked. Although they're wounded and broken, they haven't let this break their spirits. They're still laughing and jokingly talking crap to each other from across the room.

After a while, I leave the clinic once the healer gives them an elixir to help with the pain and help them rest.

I head over to the training grounds to speak with uncle Jax.

Approaching the training grounds, all the warriors are training hard. Normally the training session would've been ended a while ago, but uncle Jax has extended the training session hours longer, pushing the warriors to pass their normal limits.

"Listen up!" Uncle Jax says getting the warrior's attention. "You all have two hours to get to the mountains and back!" Uncle Jax tells the warriors.

The mountains are nearly six hours away. To make it there and back within two hours, the warriors will have to run the entire way there and back at top speed. Not all of them will make it there and back within two hours' time. The newly shifted juveniles won't even make it to the mountains within two hours let alone there and back. Their wolves aren't strong enough yet and they'll grow tired after about thirty minutes of running at their top speed and will need to rest. They're still getting used to their wolf form.

Knowing the timing there and back won't be easy to make, the warriors waste no time and shift, taking off, quickly disappearing through the thick trees.

I walk over to uncle Jax as he stands there looking at the trees where the warriors disappeared into.

"When I was in that prison, the firstborns alphas and their families were locked away in there also. Have you heard anything about what happened to them?" I stop next to him, looking at the trees as the sound of the warrior's paws beating against the ground quickly fades away into the distance.

"No, why?" Uncle Jax asks.

"If they're still alive, then maybe I can use their help with taking the Lycan king down." I frown looking over at uncle Jax, thinking about the conversation I had with one of the firstborn alphas sons while inside that prison.

"I'll make some calls and see what I can find out." He says.

"Did you know that the Lycan king was still alive, locked away somewhere?" My frown deepens, knowing I was left in the dark about it all like all the wolves were. From my understanding of what I was led to believe was that the Lycan king was dead and father was the one to kill him to get the wolves from underneath his ruthlessness ruling.

But suddenly word of the Lycan king being alive starts to spread like a wildfire.

When I was locked inside that prison, one of the firstborn alphas sons explained to me everything that he just had found out himself.

He told me that his father along with the rest of the firstborn alphas had helped my father with locking the Lycan king away. He told me how our father was supposed to have killed the Lycan king pregnant mate, but it turns out she had somehow survived, and now the Lycan king would get his revenge by killing our fathers and their families.

"Yes, I knew he was locked away." Uncle Jax says, not looking over at me.

A low growl vibrates my chest, knowing they didn't trust me enough to tell me this. "Why wasn't I told of this?" I glare over at him.

He looks over at me. "It was your father's decision. Only the firstborn alphas, I and your father were to know of the Lycan king being locked away. All evidence of the Lycan king's existence was burned inside that castle the day your father locked him away. Your father wanted the Lycan king name to fade away over time, and it was doing just that. The new generation of wolves didn't even believe the Lycan king was real. They thought he was a myth and a bunch of crazy stories. But somehow someone found out he was alive and freed him." Uncle Jax tells me.

I had doubts about the Lycan king. There were many stories. Most were made up to be horror stories around the campfire as kids.

"If him being dead was a lie, was it all a lie?! Was he really this ruthless savage that killed without mercy?! Was none of it the truth!?" I glare at him, feeling like they have played me and everyone else.

"Him being dead may haven't been the truth, but the things you've heard of his savagery is all true. He killed and slathered pack over simple things, just to make an example so the others can know what to expect for breaking his laws. But your father came up with a plan along with the firstborn alphas and locked him away forever. But as you can see, that forever didn't work out as we thought it would." He frowns, looking back over to the trees.

I stand here with uncle Jax as he starts to explain to me everything that I've been kept in the dark about. I don't say anything as I stand here listening to him explain in detail everything from the beginning of father's plan to the day the Lycan king was locked away. Telling me everything that happened.

About two hours later, the first warriors break through the tree line, followed by a few of the others.

They shift back, dropping down to their hands and knees, breathing heavily, gasping for air. Soon more and more of the warriors break through the tree line breathing heavily. I walk over grabbing the water, bring it over to them, watching as they quickly drink down the water.

Once the newly shifted juveniles finally make it back, the sun has now gone down. Uncle Jax ends their training, sending the warriors home.

I walk with uncle Jax as I head home for the night. "My mate said that those males and females are predictable when she fought them and whoever trained them should've done a better job," I tell him, watching as a frown creeps onto his face from being insulted.

"Predictable?...predictable how?" His frown deepens, trying to figure out what makes his training predictable.

"I don't know, figure it out," I tell him as I turn, going out separate ways.

Once I get back to the house, I go up to the room where I find Lisa already asleep, with a book laying on her chest.

I walk over, removing the book off her chest, placing it on the bedside table. I look down her, noticing she's wearing one of my shirts again, even though she now has her clothes here, leaving her covered in my scent.

My eyes scan over her face, stopping on he slightly parted full lips.

My thoughts go to the moment we kissed inside that prison cell. Remembering the way her soft lips felt against mines. Remembering how I was able to taste the sweetness of her lips that lingered on mines long after the kiss.

I lick my bottom lip, craving that sweet taste out her lips again. Getting lost within my thoughts, I slightly shake my head, pushing those thoughts away. I pull the cover over her and turn the light out as I leave the room.

I head downstairs going to my office where a stack of paperwork has gathered on the desk for me. I let out a sigh as I walk over, grabbing the top folder and get started with the paperwork.

I still have to take care of my duties as alpha. I have to make sure the pack has the things they need and are taken care of.
