ELEVEN
To say that Malachai left the group alone after the incident was to stay the least, he scurried away from them so fast it was only comical, prompting everyone to turn back to their own businesses. Shauna kept her arm around Lyanna's shoulders, neither of them feeling awkward about the kiss of the fact that they were so close together.
"So do you actually just like women?" Zeke questioned, asking the question that was burning in the minds of all 3 guys, "Because you mentioned having some pretty nice times with us." Shauna reached forward and slapped Zeke's head, glaring at him slightly while Lyanna merely chuckled "Wouldn't you like to know?" the dark-skinned man pouted slightly at her in reply.
"Can I just say that Malachai Kenner was not lying when he said that you are hot." Eric commented, earning him a smack on the head by both Lyanna and Shauna while Tobias and Zeke laughed lowly. "Back me up Eaton." Eric cried out, rubbing his head at the small amount of pain.
Lyanna turned to Tobias with a raised brow, Shauna peering over her head to look at the dark-haired, both of them waiting for his comment. Tobias' face slowly began to turn red, silently telling everyone what they wanted to know. "You're such idiots." Shauna laughed, shaking her head at them, Lyanna also shook her head but said nothing.
The little peace that they'd gotten after Malachai had left them alone was cut short because suddenly someone let out a blood curling screech that had the small group jumping to the balls of their feet in fear. They weren't the only ones, of course, the rest of the Dauntless Initiates also got scared, both Born and transfers, and whether be they in that carriage or another one they were trying to figure out what had happened.
The answers reached them pretty quickly, and it made everyone rush to the still-open door that had been allowing the Initiates to see the passing buildings and the city scenery. They took a glance outside to see some people jumping off the train and onto a gravel-filled rooftop, Tobias being the first one to back away from the door, his breathing instantly labored.
Eric stepped away from the door and walked to his fellow transfer, confused with his sudden reaction while the rest of the group still assessed the situation, watching as more and more initiates jumped onto the rooftop.
"You're afraid of heights aren't you?" Eric accused, almost knowingly, something that Tobias nodded extremely slowly at, rubbing his chest to try and get his breathing back under control.
"They're all jumping off, no doubt we will too." Another initiate cried out from another carriage, this did not help Tobias in any way shape or form, quite, on the other hand, it only made his symptoms worse. Eric shot the other initiate a glare and began to rub Tobias' back gently, not really knowing how to help him.
"So this is how the initiates get to the compound..." Zeke mused in typical Dauntless-born manner, while Shauna kept her eyes on the people jumping off the train, noting how the dauntless-born had a lot more practice and finesse than the transfers, but some were still almost nearly falling down to their deaths.
Lyanna hated this, she didn't fear heights but she wasn't that fond of them either, still, she kept her eyes on the roof, trying to see how much time she had until she absolutely had to jump off the train.
"Look, as you probably already got the notion off, we're going to have to jump off this train any given moment. And I get it, you aren't a fan of heights but I'm pretty sure that if you don't get on that roof you'll be immediately Factionless." Eric told Tobias as calmly as he could, he knew his words were mean and cold, almost Candor like, but at the same time, he knew that Tobias needed to be faced with a bit of the truth.
Shauna saw the two boys away from the door and nudged Lyanna, motioning to them when Lyanna's green eyes turned to her, confusion clear in them. Lyanna turned around and looked at the blond and dark-haired boys, approaching them quickly as their carriage also approached the rooftop.
"What's going on?" she asked them both worriedly and confused, "Just a bit of a fear of heights." Eric told her with a small chuckle, still trying to lighten to mood. Lyanna smiled at his words and placed a hand on her chest, over her heart, making a still heaving Tobias look at her with a small frown.
"At least I'm not the only one who doesn't like them." She tells him, making him finally breathe out a chuckle, seemingly calm down tremendously with her words, it sure was enough to know that there was someone else on the train that hates heights like he did, even if he knew that technically a lot of people did, having someone verbally telling him helped him calm down as he had someone who he could relate to.
"You can hold my hand when we jump if you want." Eric offered, holding up his free hand to the dark-haired boy, watching as he turned to look at him with a dubious look on his face while Lyanna merely looked amused by the offer, not really knowing who he was offering it to.
Still both of them shook their heads, declining the offer politely while Tobias calmed down completely, that was until he saw both Shauna and Zeke jump off the train without any prior warning. Lyanna and Eric turned around to see what had Tobias in such a new frenzy just in time to land on the gravel, making them breathe out in relief and remind them that they had to also jump off.
"I'll jump first." Eric offered, not giving the other two much time for them to react before he dashed to the door and leaped out of the train, seemingly getting suspended in the air for a moment before he landed and rolled on the gravel, hissing in pain as he felt it dig into his skin and through his clothes. He quickly stood, however, and turned to the train, anxiously waiting for the next of the two to come out.
"Tobias we really need to jump, do you trust me?" Lyanna asked Tobias who was looking at the door like it was the gateway to hell, "TOBIAS!" She yelled, making him jump and look down at her, fear bright in his eyes before recognition took over. He nodded slowly at her and when she extended her hand to him, he encased it with his larger one, holding it tightly as she stepped beside him.
She took a deep breath in, that Tobias mimicked, much to his own benefit, and the two took off running across the small compartment, leaping forward towards the roof the second their foots touched the ledge of the train. As they leaped through the relatively small distance, Tobias could see all the initiates that had made it, he could also see the city and the sun shine off the buildings, he, funnily enough, felt at peace in that moment.
Lyanna let go of Tobias' hand the second their feet touched the gravel, knowing that they were going to have to roll in order to fully absorb the shock of their landing without too many injuries, or long-lasting ones, and once she stood up, wincing as she placed her hands on the gravel she was met by Eric looking at them with a fake disappointed look on his face.
"You just didn't want to hold my hand wasn't it?" he asked them in a mock hurt tone as Zeke helped Tobias stand up.
