Aizawa PoV for Endeavor Article

[This was written for The_IMPULSIVE_Writer (they are on ao3) when they requested Aizawa's reaction to the article Revite posted about Endeavor. These events take place directly between the chapter Exposition and Consequences. I had a lot of fun with this one though it's short.]

Years of teaching have taught Shouta that he shouldn't rule anything out as a possibility. Anything improbable is now extremely likely and should be prepared for. Find it odd that one of his students might turn his fingers into what he eats and get stuck with spaghetti hands for the rest of the day on accident? Get used to it. Don't think villains will appear out of nowhere during a secure rescue simulation? Think again. Assume the student who is the son of the number two hero will cause the least trouble? Prepare for a headache.

It's not that Shouta has any issues with Todoroki. No, he's an excellent student in both schoolwork and physical training. His issue is with how somehow every disaster somehow involves him. The USJ, Stain, and now this. The Endeavor Article.

Shouta knew about the effects of the article before he knew about the article itself. It was a typical Tuesday afternoon and yet his phone was ringing off the hook, calls being sent in from all over the country - every person asking one thing: Did he know?

There were different variations, of course. Did he know that his student was abused? Did he know about Shouto Todoroki's training when he applied for U.A. through recommendation? Did he know if Revite was correct in saying underground heroes would good role models? Regardless of what was being asked, every high pitched, eager reporter brought forth the same ear ringing headache. There's a reason he chooses to stay out of the media's spotlight.

The only phone call he responds to is the one from Nedzu asking him to meet at U.A. to discuss their steps moving forward. Yet again, one of his students is the cause of another staff meeting. Some days he thinks, 'this is it. This is the last time,' and then Friday roles around and he finds himself groaning over detention paperwork for the duration of his Saturday morning.

He thinks this all with exasperation but deep down he's glad people are making a fuss over this. The bigger the craze, the harder it is to sweep Endeavor's mistakes under the rug. If anything's going to help those kids right now, it's the media.

Shouta will be honest in saying he didn't not expect this from Endeavor. He didn't think too poorly of the flame hero, not really, but he didn't think highly of him either. In Shouta's mind, he sat on that ever tilting wire of indifference strung between like and dislike. He presumed his family had a rocky relationship, but the kind of rocky that comes from having a top hero for a father (one who twists his hero persona to be more aggressive than usual).

Todoroki clearly never wanted to be seen as his fathers son but then again, Tenya didn't want to be seen as just Tensei's younger brother (they'd had a rough conversation about that). In hindsight, Shouta feels ridiculous for not recognizing it before. If he'd known like all those reporters kept asking, then he would have taken action much sooner.

Todoroki is strong and passionate and kind in his own way. Shouta looks forward to the day he becomes a hero, if that's the path her chooses. It's heartbreaking to read Revite's article and see his student's life laid out before his eyes. How much pain had he endured? How could Shouta have helped in the past?

Hizashi tells him that he tends to treat his students like stray cats, taking them in by the dozen. Shouta often denies it but when he reads that article, he understands what the man means. If he could, he'd have moved those kids away from their father long ago, even if it meant welcoming them into his own home.

When he finally reads the article, it takes not two minutes after finishing it for his husband to hand him the phone knowing far to well what Shouta will do. Sighing, he dials in a number he's long since memorized and wait's for the call to go through. He glares at Hizashi, attempting to kept a portion of his reputation in check.

"Hello? This is Tsukauchi."

"This is Aizawa. I'd like to act as the Todoroki children's supervisor and security."

He can practically hear the teasing smile in the detectives voice as he responds, "We can arrange that."

These students will be the death of him.
