{46} seeking forgiveness
It has been a while since Elizabeth felt happy. Don't get her wrong, she is happy when she's with Paul or Mary or Piper but it's been a while since she felt happy and in love, and it felt really good. Elizabeth is happy but something felt wrong, something was off. When the daughter of Aphrodite returned home after spending hours with Jasper. She was in the kitchen she heard a knock on her door.
"Carlisle?" Elizabeth whispered, her voice trembling with a mixture of surprise and uncertainty.
It had been days since Carlisle Cullen had last seen his daughter, Elizabeth. Despite whatever, he had never stopped worrying about her, wondering if she would ever be able to forgive him for the pain he had caused by leaving her two times. The burden of his absence weighed heavily on his conscience, a constant reminder of his mistakes. Now, as he stood outside the door of her small apartment, Carlisle is worried.
"Elizabeth," Carlisle managed to croak out, his voice barely audible. "May I come in?"
Elizabeth hesitated for a moment, then stepped aside to allow him entry. The house was modestly furnished, reflecting both the emotional toll she had endured. Carlisle's heart ached at the sight, realizing the extent to which his absence and her mate had affected her.
Without saying a word, Elizabeth motioned for Carlisle to take a seat on the worn-out couch. They sat in an awkward silence for what seemed like an eternity, the tension in the room almost palpable. Finally, Carlisle found the strength to speak.
"I can't begin to tell you how sorry I am for leaving," he choked out, his voice filled with genuine remorse and regret. "I thought I was doing what was best for both of us, but I see now that I only caused you pain."
Elizabeth sat quietly, her eyes locked with his. The weight of his words settled heavily upon her, her heart yearning for the reconciliation she had longed for during his absence. Slowly, she began to speak.
"Carlisle, you have no idea what I went through after you left," Elizabeth began, her voice quivering. "I felt abandoned, like I wasn't important enough for you to stay. You didn't leave me once but twice and that hurt like hell."
Venom welled in Carlisle's eyes as he listened to his daughter's words. He had feared this moment, feared that she would never find it in her heart to forgive him.
"Elizabeth, I promise you, I will do anything and everything in my power to make it up to you," Carlisle vowed earnestly. "I will be present in your life, supporting you through every hardship, every joy, and every step forward. I want to earn back your trust and rebuild what was broken."
Elizabeth's gaze softened a bit, and a sad smile tugged at the corners of her lips. It was a fragile, tentative smile, full of hope and vulnerability. Her voice, when she spoke, was filled with the pain of the past, but also with the hope of a brighter future.
"I want to believe you, Dad," Elizabeth said softly as Carlisle dead heart skipped a beat when she called him dad. "But forgiveness takes time, and actions speak louder than words. Show me that you mean what you say, and we'll see if we can start healing together."
Carlisle nodded, his heart brimming with gratitude and determination. He knew it would be a long road, one filled with ups and downs, but the possibility of rebuilding their relationship was enough to fuel his resolve.
