Chapter Fourteen: The Truth

*Violent Warning*

*Chaos Realm*

Vassilis spent day after day in the Queen's dungeon. Being ruthlessly tortured without a second to breath or gather his bearings. Lady Chaos sought his treatment, doing everything herself. It was mostly to get all that anger out of her, all that rage into something productive. Matthias had asked so many times for his release, but she always declined his request.

A month passed since his arrival, and Lady Chaos stood at the bars of his cell. He was bloody, drained, pale, all the things you would see a broken man with. The torture was physical and mental, she had the power to enter his mind and make him see his worse nightmares. She was basking in the pleasure it brought.

"Knock knock," she tapped her index finger on the bar of the cell. Vassilis was so physically weak that he could not raise his head to look up to Lady Chaos. "How are you finding your stay? Pleasant?" She was mocking his imprisonment, living in his pain. "Maybe it is time for you to decide," Vassilis frowns, managing to raise his head up to meet the Queen's gaze.

"Wha-What," his voice was low and grouchy.

"You intended to capture me and use me to get what you wanted. Wealth, power, lasting life," Lady Chaos spoke, gripping both of her hands onto the metal bars. "What if I gave them to you. And you leave this place and never come back?" She was offering him a way out, a way to get all the things he wanted. She could see in his eyes that they suddenly beamed with life.

"Yes," he exclaims, finding the energy to put into the word.

"You just got to do one little thing for me," she declared, a wicked smirk dancing across her lips, finding the plan she had conjured evil to say the least. But also eye opening.

"Of course," he breathed out as a small chuckle left his mouth. "What is it," he states, eyeing up the Queen as her smile widens.

"Matthias, your conspirator. He is here, in this realm as my prisoner like you," Vassilis eyes widened in shock, he didn't think that his friend would still be alive. "If you kill him, carve out his heart and hand it to me. Everything you want will be yours. Simple as that. He's been here a long time," Lady Chaos was direct, giving Vassilis the opportunity to kill his student and claim what is his. "I'll let you think about it," she states, lifting her hands from the cell bars and wanders away from the prison.

Vassilis sat on the stone floor, chained to the wall, he was weak but had enough strength for what he must do. He thought of Matthias as a son, and they became friends. But he couldn't take much more of this, the Queen was ruthless, and it would never end. Vassilis's mind was already made up, it was made up when she offered the task. If Matthias had to die. So be it...

........................

A month or so passed, Lady Chaos ceased the torture on Vassilis due to the fact he agreed to her task. She was indeed pleased, offered a man what he wanted, he would jump at the opportunity.

The Queen sat on her throne, her posture fit for a Queen as she stared at the oncoming men. Matthias and Vassilis, chained together as they walked up the steps of the staircase. Their greeting was brief, but one another looked surprised that they were both here.

The Queen could see their heads coming up, and smiled devilishly at what was going to happen next. She always loved playing God. With the last few steps they came to stand at her throne, just before the steps going up to it. They were forced to their knees by magic, but they didn't question the unknown force.

"Matthias and Vassilis, you have been brought before me - The Queen of Chaos to be judged," her voice commanded dominance. "You have been found guilty of conspiracy and treason. And it is death," The Queen states forcefully, biting her anger, as it still pissed her off. "However," she pointed her index finger out to the men, giving her the flare for the dramatics. "If one of you kill the other, and offer me up their heart, then you shall leave this realm victorious, and with the things you desire," she offered them both the chance, she already knew that Matthias would not do such thing, as he considers Vassilis a friend, a mentor. On the other hand, Vassilis already agreed to the terms.

"No!" Matthias shouts, finding it barbaric, and evil to pit friends together. "He is my mentor, my friend, I would not do such a thing," he exclaims, shaking his shackles.

"Then we will see what unfolds," a wicked smirk came to her lips, as she stood up from her throne with grace. With a single flick of her wrist out, the chains that bound them together faded into red mist, allowing them their freedom. Both men quickly stood to their feet, and cocked their eyes to one another.

"I will not!" Matthias was determined not to hurt his mentor. "You might think that humanity are power hungry people, but that is not true! Greed do not guide us!" He exclaims, making sure she was told straight.

"You both die, or one of you dies. Choose, who wants to live badly," she dismissed Matthias's comment, and sat back on her throne, crossing one leg over the other. Both of the men stared at one another. Matthias is so sure he wasn't going to choose violence over kindness, and wants to believe that his mentor would do the same.

"I am sorry, Matthias," Vassilis spoke softly, trying to ease the guilt he had. If he had any. "But I would rather be immortal with wealth and power. No one stands in my way," with the words spilled from his lips, Vassilis lunges for Matthias, catching him off guard. Thus, he tackled his student to the floor, and began to punch him in the face. Left hook, right hook. Vassilis was ruthless, he didn't let up, and soon enough Matthias was bloody, and had a few broken bones in his face. However, he found the strength to kick Vassilis off, but the older man recovered quickly.

"How-How could you," Matthias states, his voice breaking, as he thought their bond was stronger than this.

"I have suffered long enough here," he snaps at him, wanting to earn his freedom and the gifts that were promised to him. Vassilis stomps on over, and grabs Matthais by his dirty rags, and looks at the stairs. "I have so much to offer the world, and if you die then I can succeed!" He exclaims, and uses his strength to throw Matthias down the stairs.

Lady Chaos rises from her throne once again, and watches as Matthias tumbles down the stairs, groaning in pain as things in his body break. Soon enough he hits the last step, and rolls off. He was left broken physically, bleeding internal and externally. Vassilis rushes down the steps to see him still breathing. He walked over to his once student, and pulled him to his back, before straddling him.

"Your death will mean everything to me," he states, holding out his hand, and suddenly, mist laces his whole hand shaping out a simple dagger. As the red mist faded, he held tight to the dagger, and the fear in Matthias's eyes were real and true. His mentor was going to carve his heart out. Vassilis uses the dagger to cleanly cut off the top half of his rags, to expose his bare smooth chest.

Without another word, Vassilis plunged the dagger into Matthias's chest cavity, as he roared in pain. But Vassilis does not care, he pushes on, and drags the dagger down his chest, blood rushes to the surface and pours out, some even squirts into Vassilis's face. However, he kept on going, until the size of the cut was large enough to insert his hand into his body. And with that he uses his free hand to dive into his chest from the bottom, and up through the ribcage, to reach his student's beating heart. Vassilis didn't want to think of it anymore, so he simply grips the heart, and yanks it with all of his might, he feels the arteries disconnect, freeing the heart from its place.

Vassilis didn't even notice that Matthias's screams ceased to be heard, and the life in his eyes drained. Leaving the man dead, and his blood pooling on the floor. With a single yank out of his former student's chest, he held his heart in his hand. Meanwhile, Lady Chaos descended down the stairs slowly, watching the whole thing. She was surely impressed. Once she stepped off the last step, Vassilis stood up and turned with the heart in his hand. His whole hand bloody, and dripping, as if he just dove his hand into a red paint bucket. But this was a much darker red.

"Here! I have his heart!" He exclaims, as sweat poured from his forehead, finding the whole thing a work out.

"You had no problem in taking his life? No problem ripping out his heart?" Lady Chaos questioned, as some people would find restient, and hesitate in doing such a gruesome deed.

"I want what I was promised! Wealth, power, immortality!" He demanded with a raised tone. "I did what you asked!" He wasn't even remorseful, he was greedy, and desired what all men wanted. Her and Vassilis stared at one another, but her demeanour changed to one of disappointment, and sadness.

"How could you," she states, making Vassilis frown at her words. "I trusted you! I loved you as a Father! But you were willing to kill me over greed!" She roars, but the illusion faded, the throne room began to crumble away in mist. The Queen's figure changed to that of Matthias, alive and unharmed. "She was right. Humanity - if given a chance would turn on their own," he spat with disappointment.

"What?! What is happening!" Vassilis yells, but a blinding whitelight engulfed both men. Sending them to reality once again.

As the light in Vassilis's eyes faded, he was back in his prison cell, still in the rags he wore. Chained together, but his eyes rushed around his cell before he noticed two people standing at the bars. He looked upon them to see Lady Chaos and Matthias. Her eyes began to dim from their deep crimson red.

"You see," she began. "If given the chance, he would kill you, no questions asked. Because in the end, he wants to live, and get what he desires. Sacrificing a person he loves to get what he wants. Then so be it," she explained it to Matthias, but he saw what he did. Tears began to swell in his eyes, they glistened in the light produced by the torch nearby.

"Would you not do the same?!" Vassilis pondered the question to Matthias as they finally locked eyes with one another. "If you could get wealth, power, immortality. Would you not kill me?" The questions weighed heavily on Matthias's chest, as he thought them over.

"No," he simply replied. "I would never have hurt you," tears streamed down his cheeks. "Because I loved you as a Father. Did our time together mean nothing?! Did the days we spend learning, and laughing mean nothing!" He raised his voice with each word he spoke, until he was shouting at Vassilis.

"We were in this together! You wanted as much as I to capture Chaos, and bend her to our will!" Vassilis shouts back, rising to his feet, and stepping closer to the bars."You wanted her to bring your family back from the dead! Because when I found you, you were a beggar in the streets! Getting in trouble, and I took you in! Taught you things that you never knew, and this is how I am repaid!" Vassilis was telling it straight, but Matthias just shook his head at him.

"You were repaid by my loyalty! By my love!" Matthias yells, stepping even closer to the bars, "You are just as hungry for power. But now, you will be left here to rot!" With his last words shouted, Matthias spins on his heels and storms out of the dungeon, leaving Lady Chaos and Vassilis alone.

"Entertaining indeed," she remarks, finding their spat chaotic, and humours. "Enjoy the rest of your life down here. Do expect your sessions to be resumed," the touture was coming back into play for him. She, of course, laid off for a month or so, to give the whole situation an authentic feel.

"I never left my cell?" He breathed out, shaking the chains on his wrists and feet.

"No," she replies with a wide grin. "Reality can be manipulated. I can play tricks on your mind, this could be all a dream. And I have simply entered your mind. Who knows," a pleasant wicked smile appeared on her face. "After all, this is my domain. I am the Queen," with that said, Lady Chaos turned, and flicked her skirt out before she walked away from his cell. Leaving Vassilis screaming for her to stop, and come back, but she just listened to his screams.

Lady Chaos did what she did to show Matthias the error of Vassilis' ways, and she succeeded in that. But what will she do with Mathias now? Allow him to stay here and live in the palace? Or allow him to go back to the mortal realm? Choices she would have to make...
