Chapter Eight: A Name
*Chaos Realm*
Lady Chaos showed Matthias to his chambers, and left him unattended to get his affairs in order, but she stationed one of her creatures outside the door. Just in case he tries to make an escape. His room was fit for a prince, it was big, spacious, everything was cleaned to perfection. However, there were no windows, there were curtains but they opened just to the wall. It was strange to say the least.
Hours passed, and Lady Chaos just paced up and down in front of her throne, as she was itching for answers. Answers she will soon get. The door to the throne room sung open, and in entered the creature, and Matthias behind him. She came to the top of the staircase, and looked down at the man who was breath-taking in the throne room.
"Leave us," she instructed, and the creature bowed its head to her presence. Before it was wrapped up in red mist, becoming the mist itself and floated out of the throne room and the doors slamming shut behind it. Matthias moved his eyes up to meet the Queen, who held a smile on her face. She beckons him with her hand, gesturing to come up the stairs as she vanishes from his view.
Matthias didn't waste any time and shot up the stone stairs, and once he got to the top he could see Lady Chaos sat on her throne, one leg over the other.
"I hope your time here has made you reconsider?" Lady Chaos announces, though his time here was brief at the moment, the things he's already seen. Surely he would want to leave.
"It is a nice palace, your Majesty," he uses the proper decorum in front of her. "But I cannot tell you," this surprised her, he was loyal for sure but it only made her angry.
"You do know I could just extract the information right out of your skull," her voice lowered, holding a dark tone that suggested she was threatening him. "Leaving you a hollow shell of a man you were," her eyes narrowed into a slit, meaning she meant business.
"I do not think you will," he replies back in a calm manner, coming to the foot of the set of steps that went up to her throne. "Because you liked what you saw in my cell," he went on, smug as it were. But it made the Queen like him even more.
"Let me tell you this," she raised from her throne with grace, and began to descend down the steps. "Time works differently here. A day here, a year in the mortal realm. So the longer you are here, the longer away you are from the ones you love," a wicked smile came to her lips as his expression dropped in worry. She was inches away from Matthias, and their eyes never left one another. "Maybe take a few days to think about it!" She threw her hand up as she exclaimed the words. He was shrouded in red smoke, and was sent back to his chambers.
Of course she lied, time didn't run differently in her realm. But she loved to see that look on his face, maybe it would give some motivation to tell her what she needs to know.
................
Days after day, she would ask him how he came here, but each answer he gave was the same. Or a different variation of the same answer. The Queen couldn't help but admire his loyalty, but then again not getting the answer she wanted didn't sit well with her.
Two months now past, and she was growing weary of this game she was playing with Matthias. She knew he wasn't like any other mortal she's encountered; he's something different. And she was willing to give him a chance to be honest and speak the truth. And for her not to go all murderous on him.
As Matthias was in his chambers, paced around like he's done for the past two months, not really knowing what to do with himself. However, this night he could hear a strange noise coming from the door. It sounded like singing. He stopped in his tracks, and listened, it was in the distance but he could hear the angelic voice. With a brave face, he creeps on over to the large golden engraved door, with and pulled on the circle handle. The door swung open, just enough for him to see out, and there was no one there. The creature that stood on guard was not there. Of course, he found it odd, but it was his chance to investigate.
He slips out into the hallway, and begins to follow the sound of the voice. He wandered up and down the elegant hallways, up a flight of stairs, and into a section of the palace he had never seen before as he mainly went straight to the throne room and to his chambers. The angelic voice grew louder in volume, meaning that he was close to the source.
At the end of the corridor, he could see a light shining through the ajar door, and the source was coming from there. He crept closer, and closer, and peered inside. The room was similar to his, but this held a large vanity table with three mirrors. Sitting on the stool was the Queen, she was wearing a white lace nightgown, and brushing her silky raven hair. She hums ever so softly, and Matthias recognised that it was her voice that lured him to her.
"Come in," Lady Chaos spoke, alerting Matthias that she knew his presence. "I am not blind, and I heard you coming from a mile away," she cracks a smile as if it was genuine. It surprised Matthias. He slips into her chambers, but it wasn't, it in fact was a mere part of it, as the room was just her wardrobe. She spun on her stool to face Matthias who was simply amazed at her beauty even now. "Have you come to speak, and finally tell me the truth?" She stood gracefully from the stool, and inched closer to Matthias.
"I-I," Matthias could not properly form a sentence, seeing her like this was different. She wasn't all threatening and it made her likeable.
"Good God man, have you never seen a woman before," it was like he came from a society full of men.
"Not one as beautiful," Matthias responds with a boyish smile. He was flirting with her now, it was clear as day. However, she scoffs at his comment.
"I know I am beautiful, I do not have to be reminded," clearly the Queen was in no denial of her beauty, and did not need remaining. "I've grown weary of this little dance of ours," she floats back over to her vanity table and leans over to stare at herself in the mirror. "And maybe I should kill you and be done with it," she stops leaning, and turns around a deep unsettling red came from her irises, hoping it would put the fear of God in him.
"You could have done it the first twenty times I said no," he was right about what she could have done. But she didn't. Her eyes began to dim, returning to the chocolate brown.
"Then I should have done this two months ago," Lady Chaos raised her hand up, and a ball of energy was in her palm. However, Matthias's hands and feet were pulled back with two red bands of energy wrapped around them. Holding him in place, and not allowing him to run. She drags her hand back, and he floats on over to the Queen.
"No please, do not," he begs her as he tries to struggle out of the bindings.
"You leave me no other choice," she states softly, not wanting it to come down to this. "I need to know," She wanted him to open up, and tell her willingly. Lady Chaos flicked her fingers towards Matthias, as strands of red energy leapt from her fingertips and seeped into his brain. Thus began her trip into his memories.
Within no time she found the memory of what she wanted to know. She stood in a temple of a God, probably Zeus. She sees Matthias entering, and his sights falling upon a ritual circle, it's writing ancient and that of binding.
"Boy have you got it!" The priest of the temple spoke, and that's when Matthias pulled free a dried heart of a human.
"Do we really need this?" Matthias was sceptical about this whole thing.
"If we are to succeed in the summing of Chaos then yes," hearing this Lady Chaos expression turned sour, and anger filled her veins. "Then we will get everything we want in our lives," the older man went on, grabbing the heart off of Matthias, and began to chant a spell.
"Here these words, and listen well, Chaos I summon thee to my circle of binding," as he chanted the spell, the binding circle began to emit an orange glow. "I hold in my hand a heart of a thief, I offer it up to you, to bring you into this realm," the glow begins to change to a deep red, and he drops the heart into the circle. "We summon thee, come to us!" He yells, and suddenly, a vortex sprouted open.
However, Lady Chaos saw enough of this, and needed not to see any further. She was brought back to reality, staring in the eyes of Matthias, seeing that he held shame in his own eyes. Out of anger, she forced her hand around his throat, and lifted him up into the air, breaking the bonds he had, and he began to struggle.
"You dare try to summon me!" She raises her voice, rage encasing her. "Dare to trap me and keep me caged like an animal! I will have great pleasure in killing you!" she tightened her grip around his throat, as he began to choke, and turn red, using his hands to bang at her arm or claw at her hands, hoping for some release. However, an wicked idea came to her mind, and a wicked smile came across her lips.
Matthias was dropped from her grasp, and crumbled to the floor, inhaling as quickly as he could to get the air into his lungs. He began to breathe heavily, tears in his eyes, before he looked up to her.
"Death will not be your punishment, but imprisonment. Like you sought to do to me," she spat through clenched teeth, staring down at this man. "Torture like you've never seen, for all eternity," she raised her hand, as a ball of red energy laced her palm.
"Calliope," he managed to speak the word, making Lady Chaos stop what she was doing, but held the action. "The Muse," he breathed out, cocking his head back up to meet her eyes. "Your singing reminds me of her," it was nonsense he was spilling, and clearly didn't effect her judgement. With a lingering look, she flicked her wrist out, and Matthias was encased in red mist, and was sent back to his prison cell.
Lady Chaos brought her hand back down slowly, she had mixed emotions, and it was something new. She was always direct, and knew what she wanted to do. But with Matthias, she had no clue what to do with him. He didn't plea with the judgement, he just took it. Another quality she liked about him.
Though Calliope has a nice ring to it...
