Chapter Five

"A Glock 9 and a .22. That's what they're looking for. Who has them? Someone knows where they are or they know who does." Rick looked over the group of civilians that resided in the church, and when no one spoke up he continued. "If we don't find them, they're gonna kill Olivia. They'll do it." A large, dark man stood up. "Why do they care? Two guns aren't a threat to them. But those guns could help protect us from whatever else is out there." Rick looked at him, stepping forward a bit. "Do you have them?" The man slowly shook his head, "Wish I did." Rick turned his attention back to the crowd. "Most of you weren't there. You didn't have to watch. But you can look away now when someone else dies, or you can help solve this. We give them what they want, and we live in peace."
Someone started to argue with his statement, and with a frustrated sigh I quickly intervened. "I watched two of our best men-- two of our closest friends as their heads were bashed in by this monster. I'd rather not have to witness it happen to Olivia, and I hope to God you guys don't want that either. Like Rick said, we give them what they want." The room went quiet, hushed whispers being the only thing I could hear before Eric stood up. "Say we find the guns. How are we gonna get out of this, Rick?" I stepped out of the way as Rick moved forward, shaking his head. "There is no way out of this. Let me put this to all of you as clearly as I can.
I'm not in charge anymore," he started to say as he looked around the room, "Negan is. Now, who has the guns?" Everyone looked around, Eugene speaking up. "Not everyone's here."
I walked down the street, everyone having parted ways as Rick left to go search for the missing guns. My orders were to keep an eye on Negan, Rick not too keen with the idea of leaving him to wonder around alone. Rick and I hadn't separated on good terms, after I'd told him I would take Olivia's place if it came down to it, a plan he wasn't fond of in the slightest. I noticed one of Negan's men standing close to Enid, Carl leaning against a tree as he watched helplessly. "Balloons? You going to a party, little girl?" the rather large, middle aged man teased Enid, holding out a handful of green balloons. "Can I keep them, please? It's just...Let me keep them." He laughed at her, "Say please again, little girl." he commanded, and I felt my stomach twist into knots as she did what she was told. "Give her the goddamn balloons...filthy pervert." I snapped angrily, and the man turned to give me a nasty smirk, dropping the balloons on the ground before walking off. Rick walked over to us, leaning in. "They'll be gone soon."
I frowned, confused by his words, quickly following behind as he headed straight for Negan, who was still hanging out by the same truck. He turned with a bright smile, "What you got for me, Rick?" Rick said nothing, instead handing him a large pouch, and when Negan poured out its contents he chuckled, "Well, would you look at that? They were here after all. Funny how a little 'Holy shit! Somebody's gonna die!' lights a fire under everybody's ass!" he stated as he looked at the guns, Olivia whimpering softly in relief as Negan continued. "So, tell me, Rick, which one of your fine folks almost cost Olivia the rest of her days?" he asked, and Rick shook his head. "It doesn't matter anymore." Negan scrunched his brow together. "No, it matters. See, you need to get everybody on board.
Everybody. Or we just go right back to square one."
"Hell of a place you got here, Rick." Negan complimented as most of his men pulled out, and everyone stood at the entrance as Rick peered off into the distance. "Give me a second." Negan shook his head, noticing what he was staring at, though I couldn't tell. "No." Rick looked to the ground and then back up. "Please, can you just give me a second?" Negan finally let him pass, his eyes landing on me. My cheeks burned with a mixture of hatred and embarrassment, and I quickly averted my gaze as he started to hum. Moments passed by, and it wasn't until Negan called out that I looked back at the entrance. "Look at this!" Both Rick and Michonne stepped inside, Michonne pushing passed as Rick handed him her gun. "I thought she was scavenging. She was hunting...this one never came inside-- we kept it near the line."
Negan smirked, handing the gun off to one of his men standing behind him. "Look at this. This is something to build a relationship on. Good for you, Rick. This is readin' the room and getting the message. I've said it before, I'm gonna say it again. You, sure are special." I watched Rick's eyes move to Daryl. "Now that you know we can follow your rules, I'd like to ask you if Daryl can stay." Negan looked back at Daryl, grinning. "Not happening." He then frowned, shrugging his shoulders in thought. "You know what? I don't know. Maybe Daryl can plead his case. Maybe Daryl can sway me...Daryl?" Everyone waited for Daryl to speak, and when he stayed silent Negan chuckled. "Well, you tried. Now what you got to do is get over that tall wall of yours and try harder out there. Earn for me. Because we're coming back soon, and when we do, you better have something interesting for us, or Lucille, she's gonna have her way." I froze at his words, and he leaned in close to Rick. "I want you to hear that again. If you don't have something interesting for us somebody's gonna die. And no more magic guns. Arat, grab that deer. It's getting late, let's go home."
Michonne looked at him, scowling as she let the deer carcass fall to the ground with a loud thud before stomping off. "Man, I love a gal that buys me dinner and doesn't expect me to put out." Negan teased Rick, who watched her leave with wide eyes. I watched as Dwight exchanged a few words with Rosita as he took Daryl's bike, pushing it outside he gates. "So, nobody died. And you know what I think? I think you and I, we've refined our understanding. Let me ask you something, Rick. Do you want me to go?" Rick nodded, looking at the ground. "I think that'd be good." Negan held his arms out, "Then just say those two magical words." I stood there silently as Rick met the man's gaze, replying with a soft 'thank you', and Negan chuckled before nudging Rick's shoulder.
"Don't be ridiculous. Thank you. You know what I think, Rick? I think we're both gonna come out of this winners. Let's move out!" Negan called out to his men, and they all started to get into their trucks as he chuckled. "Oh, wait. How careless of me. You didn't think I was gonna leave Lucille, did ya? I mean, after what she did, why would you want her? Thank you for being so accommodating, friend." he stated with an evil grin as he reached for the bat, whispering something in Rick's ear before pulling away. "Oh, and speaking of women, I know this might be a little late in the program, but I'm gonna have to relieve you of that little ball of fire over there." he announced, gesturing towards me with his hand, and I choked out a surprised gasp as Rick went to argue. "Do not test me, Rick. She comes with me, or someone else gets it. Are we fucking clear?" I stepped forward quickly, letting the words slip out without thinking. "Crystal clear."
