DivergenceTale (Revamped Undertale AU)
Name: DivergenceTale
Type: [Debating]
New Characters: The Anomaly(Player Oc) etc. [Humans and Monster Ocs are involved but don't play a huge role here.]
Inspiration: Undertale: Consequences(On Fanfic.Net), Isekei into Undertale Tropes, and various Undertale Aus(The ones with headcanons and stuff).
What is DivergenceTale?: The plot of DivergenceTale starts from the perspective of a Player, who controls the game for all interactions and choices. Whether for Fight or Mercy. Pacifist, Neutral, or Genocide routes. Nonetheless, they will commit these actions since they do not care for the game's messages and only play for the content. Time after time, the Player goes through the endings, starting with a Neutral and then with a Pacifist until eventually being bored and resetting to get some genocide action. Reset/Load/Save were the actions repeated in the loop. The reason the protagonist was doing this was unknown, but the Awares knew that the cycle would never end as even if they tried something, nothing would work, as the being would always find a way to win.
Eventually, an outer force would watch from behind the scenes during the secret war between the Player and the Awares. This mysterious spectator was Dr. W.D. Gaster, a former royal scientist and now an inhabitant of the void. During his time in the void/game files, Gaster would do nothing but watch the time loop the Player created, alongside the countless failures those Awares(Chara, Sans, and Flowey) did to stop the Anomaly. It was entertaining, to say the least, to see the Player's experiments with the timelines, but over time, this would get bland, and he could tell from the Player's face that they were tired, too. At some point, after yet another failed attempt by the Awares to get rid of them, The Player started a new run. However, something was different this time as they encountered a mysterious door in the Waterfall area. Seeing the rare event, the Player entered inside, not wanting to waste this opportunity, only to be led into not a trap but a meeting with someone, which was Dr. Gaster himself. On that day, the two beings made a deal. Whatever it was is still unknown, but what anyone did know was that it was not a good sign as the Player had a reignited spark in their eyes.
Characters:
The Player/"Frisk?": An unknown entity tied to a vessel via Frisk. Their identity is anonymous, and their memory of their previous life has been erased except for their love of the game Undertale. They thought waking up on the flowerbed in the first timeline was a dream, but after playing through every ending, finding every secret, and doing whatever they desired, it became apparent that this was a nightmare. After committing 156 million resets, they faced the consequences of their actions, resulting in a trio called "The Awares," who would do everything they could to defeat them. Still, after repeating this endless cycle, the Player became tired of their antics and now seeks to escape this loop by making a deal with Dr. WD Gaster.
WD Gaster: The previous royal scientist, creator of the core, and the mentioned man who speaks in hands led a relatively normal life until he was erased from existence by falling into his creation. However, instead of facing death, he found himself trapped inside the void, forced to be an invisible spectator for years, witnessing the rise and fall of different universes. This bitter experience motivated him to change the world's fate, even if it meant altering one small event at a time. Unfortunately, he could not interact with the world due to limitations until he encountered the tired Player; utilizing the opportunity, Gaster struck up a deal with the entity, leading to events that would go down in this reality.
The Awares: The trio of Chara Dremmurr, Comic Sans, and Flowey/Asriel Dremmurr all share the same motive to stop the Player. These three only ended up joining forces after multiple resets in thier universe occurred, which caused unforeseen consequences, making them become the ones to gain awareness even after the Player initiated a Reset. Unfortunately, unlike many stories where a team-up resulted in a victory, this trio could not defeat the Player, as every plan they made only became a failure once the entity found a loophole in the trap. This constant secret war would make the trio go to drastic means to achieve thier revenge, leading to all sorts of timelines where thier motives start becoming more and more out of character due to them losing thier sanity in this neverending madness.
[The Other Characters will be involved however, they will be altered due to the effects of the constantly resetting timeline.]
The Common Facts:
~In this Universe Frisk isn't real at all or at least they used to be a real person but now they are just a vessel that "Player" uses for their playthrough of Undertale. Of course the Awares are not aware of this fact as they think that the Player is Frisk, and always has been which honestly is a sad way for a child who had no time to exist to be remembered. Now as for how Frisk got their body hijacked in the first well it's due to their soul being replaced with another the moment after the fall. (It's the typical switcharoo of souls as seen in some isekei tropes)
~Nobody is able to access the Alternate Universe due to something blocking it off in either fear or yet disgust of the "Aus". (Honestly we are talking about those kind of Aus such as Copycat ones or others that are seen as threats due to their powers) The reason why is pretty obvious as someone from those other worlds will interrupt them and mess up with their personal goals. (This is the same case with Freaktale's Sky in their Au as they too also blocked off their Universe from being accessed by beings like Ink and Error)
~Gaster is mostly the same like usual interpretations however there's a few changes as unlike the original fanfic Undertale: Consequences he is actually not against the Player at all and instead is on their side due to an alliance being made between the two. Another change to occur is that this Gaster is rather detached to everything, and is not that surprised at the genocide runs since he basically has witnessed the rise and fall of multiple universes as it's invisible spectator. The final change that really nails the coffin though is how he is not related in any possible way to the skeleton brothers therefore he has no connection nor attachment to them. (Note: The Dadster concept is also too overrated in my opinion)
~The Undertale Characters remain mostly the same like their original counterparts however due to the timeline being resetted over and over again it has resulted in some unexpected changes to occur. For example Papyrus is now in the royal guard yet despite everything he is ranked a low level sentry due to Undyne not wanting Papyrus to get hurt like she says in the game, Sans is now a scientist again however his purpose for being back in this occupation is to find a way to break the cycle, and etc of what few changes the universe has gone through. (Character Roles must be similar)
~The Human souls in this universe are from different points of history, and each one of them is themed around the point of time they first originated from. The moment they all met one another in the soul space after they died well they were very confused by the different stories they each told of their life on the surface however despite the realization of how many years have passed there was a good side to this and that was getting to learn more about their time period's history. (Perseverance definitely enjoyed hearing stories from the Souls) Lastly as for their names well they barely remember much of their identity however based on the time they spent together it was also during this time that they all managed to give themselves new names.
Order of Human Souls and my interpretations based on ideas:
1800s or 1900s Justice
1910s Patience
1920s Bravery
1930s Integrity
1940s Perseverance
1950s Kindness
2000s Determination
(Still a WIP)
[More content is being added but give me any ideas for this Au]
