|Chapter Six| Maybe she IS different
"Grandfather, where are you going?" Jenny says as Michael throws on his coat.
"Zach called us in for a last minute meeting. No one in town has seen Aphmau in a couple of days and he's wondered a werewolf maybe is hosting her hostage or worse, maybe even dead." Jenny gasps,
"Well can I help? I've known Aphmau for years and I consider her a close friend of mine. It would mean the world to me if I could come search with you guys. I mean, if there is a search."
"Your mother wouldn't agree. This job requires GF training since Aphmau is a big part of the Guardian Forces, and because your parents didn't want you to take lessons, you don't meet the qualifications.
"Can I at least come along? I won't fight or anything, I just want to make sure she's okay."
"Sorry, pumpkin. But your mother would disown me if I let you out." He opens the front door and waves. "I'll be back before lunch. I'll see you later."
"See you later, grandfather." He closes the door and she locks it for him. She runs into her bedroom and picks up a box from her dresser. With both hands latched on the box, she crawls onto the bed and opens the lid.
She pulls out a purple book with Aphmau's name on it.
"Happy birthday, Aph." Jenny tries to hug her but Aphmau coughs.
"Oh I think I'm coming up with something." She coughs again, "I don't think you want to catch this, do you? Especially with the big celebration tonight."
"Of course, I understand. Maybe some other time?" Jenny gives a fake smile and nods. She notices a book resting under Aphmau's bed with her name on her. Which gives her an idea.
"Yes, possibly." Aphmau looks back at her father, "Everything looking good downstairs, daddy?"
He gasps, "I forgot! Come along everyone, let's leave Aphmau to her room." He rushes everyone out of her room. Before Zach could get Jenny, she bends down quickly, grabbing the book and stuffing it under her shirt. Everyone is escorted out, Zach closing the door.
"We have until tonight until the party! Let's make sure everything is balanced."
"I was going to head home. Rest up for tonight." Jenny makes up an excuse.
"That's fine, Jen. I'll be back around 4 this evening." The group of adults leave the hallway. Jenny pats her shirt where the book rests.
"So the daughter of Zach Everton doesn't even believe in the family business." She reads throughout the book. "Interesting."

"She doesn't believe Ultimas are a thing, Mel!" Aaron paces the room, "This is huge! Have you ever heard of a human who thinks Ultimas are just a myth!"
"Yes, Aaron, I hear you." Melissa groans, "You've been talking about it the entire afternoon nonstop. If you're so interested in getting to know more, then why don't you speak to her yourself?"
"Because all I know is she is the daughter of a very rich and powerful man who could wipe out our entire existence. Also, she said she has Gf training. Who knows what she could do to me?"
"Okay, brother, no offense, but what is going on? You feared nothing these past few years and all of a sudden, some girl who is tired of her father's business swoops in and you're afraid? Not to mention, she's like, 4'11." She perks up, "Unless you think she's cute."
"I don't know her. I don't like her. I've just never heard of a human who hasn't feared us." Aaron responds.
"You totally think she's cute." Melissa looks out the window, "If you think she's cute by herself, come take a look at this."
~~~
Melissa was off somewhere so I decided to walk around the town and figure out these surroundings by myself. I pass by the playground where a bunch of werewolf pups were playing with a soccer ball. I watch for a while and smile at how they all share the ball.
Until it rolls down at my feet. I look at the werewolf pups who were looking back at me. A little girl walks over, twiddling her thumbs. "Can we get that back?"
I pick up a ball and hand it to her, "Of course." The little girl takes the ball fro me, but she doesn't move away from me. Instead, she speaks again.
"Want to play with us? The red team could use another player." She says. I look at the other wolf pups, who look a little anxious.
"Hmm I don't know. I think we better ask your friends first." The little girl just nods and she grabs my hand, tugging me towards the group of little boys and girls. "Can she play with us? I like her."
I could tell some wanted to play, but a couple looked like they wanted me far away. "Can she even play soccer?" One sneers.
"Midfield right," I respond, "Played for four years in high school. Our team even went to state my junior year." The girl holding my hand just smiles.
"See? Come onnnnn, I want her to play with us! Pleaseeeee?" The girl pouts. The pups give in.
"Fine, let's see what she's got." One responds and the girl cheers.
"You can be on Alaya's team. They need a goalie." She points me to a werewolf with blonde shoulder length hair and a few other werewolves surrounding her.
"Aye aye captain." I walk over to the other team. Before I know it, the other team starts kicking the ball around and we get into position. The boy with the ball passes by my team easily and starts running towards me.
I get into my blocking stance, but the little boy kicks the ball right pass me and yells, "Goalllllllllll!" The team start running towards me. We play a few more rounds and the team I'm on is losing badly. Mostly because of me.
The same boy from the first round kicks the ball between my legs, "Game point!" The little girl who brought me over jumps and tackles me to the ground.
"You're nice, but you aren't a good goalie." She comments as the other pups start to jump onto me as well. The girl hugs me along with a few other werewolves. Some other just sit on me.
I laugh, "Well I guess we know better next time." I use whatever arm room I have left to hug a few of them back.
"I'm Riya." The little girl says, "What's your name?"
"Aphmau."
~~~
Aaron watches as the pups get off Aphmau and help her up. "Wow. Looks like a few pups started warming up to her. I wasn't sure they'd take a liking to her so soon."
"Well, maybe if you talked to her, you could see why so many people like her."
"Yeah." Aaron looks back outside, "Maybe I will."
