Your POV

After scaring Laurance by knowing about his orange hair, nothing major happened for a few weeks. Garroth and I had helped Laurance, Aphmau, Travis, Katelyn, and the others build the Phoenix Alliance headquarters on the island. As it came to be, I stayed on the island almost all the time. Katelyn, Travis, Laurance and Garroth also had homes there, and stayed there most of the time. Aphmau divided her time between both villages, but planned to move permanently to the island. As I walked down the small path towards the forest, I noticed a small car that hadn't been there before. I walked to the edge of it and peered in. At the back, there was a Nether Portal. Alarmed, I looked around the cave for anyone else, but there wasn't anyone. I edged closer to the portal and stuck my hand through. I quickly pulled it back from the heat of the Nether. Yep, it was activated, but by whom? My mind reeling, I headed back to tell Aphmau, but she had left for a two week trip for Scaleswind and wasn't coming back soon.

"Mother of Irene," I cursed silently under my breath. I looked around the village and encountered Chad, but since he wasn't much help and kind of freaked me out, I looked for someone else. I finally found Garroth and Laurance silently judging a wild Travis trying and failing to impress Katelyn, who was clearly unamused and annoyed. I jogged over and pulled Garroth aside, telling him about the portal.

"We need to tell Aphmau-"

"She just left for a two week trip to Scaleswind," I cut him off. The blonde nodded thoughtfully. He walked over to Laurance and explained the situation, and he nodded gravely. Katelyn and Travis joined us and we described what happened, and they offered some solutions.

"We could quietly explore the Nether and see if it is still in control of the Shadow Knights," Travis suggested.

"No, we know that Zenix has taken over the Nether and attempted to kill all the other Shadow Knights," Katelyn disagreed. Garroth and I both shivered, me from the mention of Shadow Knights, and Garroth from something else I probably didn't know about.

"Well, we can't just leave the portal there, can we?" I reasoned.

"We can't, but we can't disable it," Laurance said.

"What if we had someone guard it?" Travis asked.

"That's probably the smartest thing you've ever said," Katelyn commented.

"Than- HEY!" I giggled as Travis realized Katelyn insulted him.

"But in all seriousness," Garroth said. "Travis is right. It's best to have someone guarding the portal at all times."

"I agree," Laurance said. "That way if someone does come out, we can be prepared."

"Unless they kill the person guarding the portal!" Chad exclaimed. Everyone jumped.

"When did you get here?" Travis asked.

"Just now!"

"Okay... creepy old man..." Katelyn muttered under her breath. I choked on my laughter.

"Yeah," I said after clearing my throat. "That sounds like a plan. Who wants first watch?"

"I will," Katelyn volunteered. I nodded.

"After that, I'll watch," Garroth said.

"Okay. After that we can decide on a schedule for rotations and stuff," Laurance suggested. Everyone nodded, and the meeting disbanded. I went back to my house and walked into the kitchen, spotting a note on the table. 'We've missed you' was all it said. I looked around and walked back to the front door and locked it. I warily checked the rest of the house and, upon finding no one, returned to the kitchen for a snack.
