The Order

Caelen woke hours later, cramped and groggy, to a startled yelp from her godfather, "Caelen, Merlin, what are you doing in my wardrobe?"

The girl sat up slowly head hanging low feet dangling out of the cupboard, "I did something bad," she whispered quietly. "Daddy's mad at me."

"Give me a second ok pup," Sirius hurried out the door and down the hall colliding with a nearly irritate Remus. "Hey moony I found her, she was asleep in my wardrobe."

Lupin made to go to her when his friend's hand pulled him back, "what Sirius I need to go talk to Caelen!" He snapped agitation apparent in his harsh tone.

"Let me," the dog animagus begged, "she's pretty upset and you're supposed to be headed to get Harry, I'll talk to her."

It looked like Remus was going to argue when Moody shouted from the bottom of the stairs, "alright then let's go times wasting!"

Moony glanced back down the hall anxiously, uncertain.

"Go on moons, I'll look after her."

With a sigh and a final look at the closed door that hid his child, Lupin trudged down the staircase and out the door to fetch Harry.

Sirius ran his fingers through his hair with a sigh before heading back to his room. Caelen was sitting on the floor, her back resting against the wall, her knees tucked under her chin.

"Alright pup, what happened?" He questioned quietly joining her on the hardwood flooring.

"I threw Tonks," she mumbled quietly.

Sirius glanced at the little girl in shock certain he hadn't heard right, "you what?"

"I didn't mean to!" She hurriedly tried to explain, "she was leaning in to kiss daddy, I just wanted her to get away I didn't mean to hurt her! And then she looked so surprised and daddy got mad and I ran in here and hid!"

"Hmmmm," Sirius sighed realizing he was getting into more than he'd bargained for, "so you performed some accidental magic huh? Caelen, you wanna explain to me why you don't want Tonks with your dad? I thought you liked Tonks?"

"I do! I like her! I just, what if they get together and she realizes I'm a freak? What if she doesn't want me around and convinces daddy to get rid of me?"

Sirius sighed pulling his goddaughter into his arms and hugging her tightly. "You're not a freak Caelen! Do you really think she'd do that, or that Remus would do that?"

"Daddy wouldn't right? Cuz he loves me?"

"He does pup, very much, Remus would never let anyone hurt you or take you away from him." The man reassured her gently. "Tonks wouldn't either, she's my little cousin you know? Do you think I'd hurt you or try to get rid of you?"

Caelen shook her head no, eyeing her godfather seriously. "I didn't know she was your cousin?"

"Yep second cousin actually, her mother is my cousin. She's not like Gena little one, Tonks cares about you I promise."

"Do you think she'll still care now? Think she'll forgive me?"

Sirius smiled, gently kissing the girl's soft brown hair, "I think so, why don't you ask her when she gets back? They've gone to fetch Harry now."

Caelen's face brightened immediately, "Harry's coming?! Do the Weasleys know?"

Sirius laughed as the child squirmed from his arms and hurried for the door, "why don't you go tell them." He called after her receding form, laughing at the girl's obvious excitement.

Caelen hurried into Ron's room catching he and Hermione mid argument, "they're going to get Harry now!"

Hermione turned from where she'd been lecturing Ron, her stern expression softening into a smile. "Hi Caelen, did they find you then?"

Caelen blushed, "does everyone know?"

"Eh it's alright kid," Ron reassured with a grin, "gotta say if I woke up to find my parents kissing above my head I'd probably send one or both flying myself."

"Oh honestly Ronald, you have the emotional range of a teaspoon!" Hermione snapped rolling her eyes at the redheaded boy. "It's alright Caelen, Tonks is fine."

"Are you sure? She's probably really mad at me now." Caelen worried wringing her little hands together.

"Nah she was ok, worried about you more like, she looked for you with your dad till they had to go." Ron responded carelessly.

The trio spent the next hour together, Ron teaching Caelen to play wizards chess, Hermione reading her copy of Hogwarts a History for the umpteenth time. When the door creaked open, to reveal a tired and frustrated Harry,  Hermione launched herself at the teen. "Harry!" She gasped wrapped her arms around him tightly, "they can't expel you Harry it's not fair!"

Harry gritted his teeth, "seems to be a lot of that going around lately," he snapped glaring angrily at his two friends before glancing over towards Caelen, who had been watching the exchange curiously.

"Why would they expel you Harry?" She asked nervously.

Harry's glare darkened further and he glanced at Hermione in frustration. "Don't worry Cae I'll be fine, why don't you go check on your dad hmm?" He asked clearly trying to spare the girl from the argument they all knew was imminent.

Caelen hopped down from her spot on the bed and hurried over squeezing the older boy in a quick hug. "I'm glad you're here," she whispered into his ear when he bent to return the embrace.

"Yeah me too," the messy haired teen agreed ruffling her hair gently, "I'll see you at supper alright?"

With a nod she hurried from the room. Caelen tried not to notice the shouts that began before she'd made it more than ten steps from the door, whatever the problem was Harry was ok and she knew the three of them would never really hurt each other.

Knowing an order meeting was in progress the girl wandered to her room to read. She sprawled across the bed studying the defensive spells book she'd given her father for Christmas. Caelen imagined what it would be like to have her own wand and be able to practice the spells in the book. She hadn't realized how long she'd been reading until two popping sounds echoed behind her.

"Hey little Lupin,"

"Suppers on!" The twins informed her before disappearing once again.

Caelen laughed at the pair, they'd gotten their apparation license and since then hadn't walked more than a few feet. The pranks available to them now were impressive though.

Hurrying down the stairs she came into the kitchen just Sirius was speaking. "We think he's after something, something he didn't have last time."

"Sirius!" Mrs Weasley snapped.

"Harry deserves to know," the man replied unrepentant.

Caelen reached the table unnoticed, scooting between Fred and George quietly, and began eating, listening raptly to the adults argument.

Harry ignored Mrs Weasley altogether, "what like a weapon."

Sirius shrugged, "maybe."

"Alright that's quite enough, he's just a boy! You say much more and you might as well induct him into the order straight away."

"Good, if Voldemort's raising an army then I want to fight!" Harry all but demanded the right.

Sirius shrugged his shoulders as if to say 'there now you see the boy wants to join', his expression met by a quelling look from Molly. The old marauder smirked slightly winking at his godson in an encouraging manner, letting the matter drop for the moment.

As supper ended Caelen hurried out hidden amongst the Weasley children. She tried to convince herself she wasn't sneaking, that she was just leaving at the same time as the others, but deep down she knew better. For the first time since knowing him Caelen found herself avoiding her father, the thought nearly crushed her.

Remus, however, wasn't as clueless as his child believed him to be. He'd noticed immediately when she'd wandered into the room, slinking along the shadows and hiding between the twins. He'd watched her react worriedly to Harry's declaration that he wanted to fight Voldemort, and the flitting of her eyes towards the people in the room that mattered most to her. A part of him had wanted to chuckle when she'd hidden herself amongst the older children as they left the table, a glimpse of chocolate brown amongst the red.

"Still ignoring each other I see," Sirius whispered to his old friend.

Remus rolled his eyes, "no just giving her time, she seems like she's trying to figure something out."

The black haired man smiled, "she'll come around moons."

Caelen tip toed down the stairs uncertain whether she wanted to face her father yet or not. Worries of what he'd say left in a rush as she entered the sitting room, colliding with Tonks.

The metamorphagus reached out quickly, steadying the small child, "Caelen, you ok? I'm sorry." Nymphadora studied the child, emotions flitting across her young face. "Alright little one?

Caelen stared down at her feet nervously, "I'm sorry Tonks, about earlier." She mumbled so quietly the young aurror had to strain to hear.

"Wanna tell me about it?" The woman questioned leading the girl gently towards a nearby sofa.

Caelen followed sitting as far away from her as the seat allowed and staring at her hands, clasped tightly in her lap. "I was scared."

Tonks smiled gently, "of me?" She all but whispered.

The girl nodded, "sort of, I was scared you'd...you'd decide you d-don't like me, then daddy wouldn't like me."

"Do you really think anyone could make your daddy quit loving you?"

"N-no, but could convince him to s-send me away, or convince him I'm b-bad." Caelen mumbled, finally glancing up briefly.

"You were afraid I'd take your father away from you," Tonks stated more than asked.

Caelen nodded sadly, "I guess so."

"Sweetheart, even if I could do such a thing, and I'm telling you nobody could convince your father not to adore you, I would never." The pink haired woman scooted closer pulling the girl into a hesitant hug. "You're a beautiful little girl Caelen, you're smart, and caring, so much like your father, I would never, ever, try to come between you. I promise kiddo, if anything happens between your dad and I you're always going to come first for him and I wouldn't have it any other way, ok?"

Caelen buried her face in Tonk's shoulder tears soaking the woman's shirt, "you promise?"

"I solemnly swear."

"I promise too cub," Remus' voice added quietly from the doorway.

The girl's head shot up instantly, "I'm s-sorry daddy!" She sobbed.

"Hey, it's alright." Her father reassured quickly. He crossed the room in three long strides pulling his crying child into his arms. "It's ok cub, you were scared, there's a reason they call it accidental magic."

"You're not mad at me?"

"Well if you'd done it for no reason I would have been. Caelen, I'd never be mad at you for being afraid, even if you didn't handle your fear properly." The pair laughed lightly. "I'm proud of you for apologizing and explaining why you reacted like that."

"Uncle Sirius told me Tonks would understand and you'd never quit loving me." The girl responded with a wobbly smile. "I didn't know you guys were cousins?"

Tonks laughed, "yep we're two of the only good ones left in the House of Black." She bragged cheerfully.

Later as he tucked her in for the night Remus whispered quietly to his daughter, "you don't have to be afraid Caelen, I'm not going anywhere, not for anyone. Alright?"

"Ok daddy," the girl nodded sleepily. "Daddy?" She called as he neared the door to their room.

"Yes cub?"

"I'm ok," she mumbled hesitantly, "it's ok if you love Tonks, I don't mind."

Remus laughed quietly, "I'll keep that in mind, goodnight cub."
