A hundred years have passed and the age of Mammals would proceed to last longer than any other species and every day more creatures are being born either under Celestia's bright sun or Kozmotis' moon under the care of him and Manny.
One late afternoon at the Kingdom of the Stars, just before he would leave to his duties as Guardian of the Night, Kozmotis came into the kitchen to see Vlad and Loki sitting at the table eating their supper.
Loki's wife Sigyn was pouring the wine in each of their glasses then turned back around and cut apart huge chunks of meat and set them down for Malchior who was currently sitting on the floor in as a wolf. Malchior licked Sigyn's cheek in thanks and she said.
"You're very welcome Malchior, now eat up you'll need your strength for work tonight".
"Thank you Sigyn. You've given us so much in the time you've come here" Kozmotis said as he had watched his brother's wife take care of his changeling like he was her own child.
"Well you boys needed a woman's touch around here. Besides behind every great man, lies an even greater woman" Sigyn stated with her hands at her hips.
"And praise Valhalla I got me the best one" Loki proclaimed. Kozmotis and Sigyn chuckled softly then they sat themselves at the table, before sitting down Sigyn kissed her husband's cheek. As Kozmotis watched the love unfold between Sigyn and Loki he felt a bit solemn struck.
"Something wrong Kozmotis?" asked Vlad.
"I'm fine it's nothing" he said.
"Ah-ah-ah now that is a lie your Highness. You can't lie to the God of Lies, now come on slip it out" Loki stated. Kozmotis sighed having barely touched his food since he sat down his fork and knife and said solemnly.
"I don't know—just seeing the love between you two it—"
"Does it bother you? I'm sorry Kozmotis we never meant to—"
"No, no Sigyn it's fine. It's beautiful seeing you two finally together after all you two have been through. The two of you deserve each other after so long. It's just—sometimes I wonder if I will ever find that happiness with someone?"
"Is this about the dream again? The one you've been having since the beginning?" asked Vlad.
"Possible. Lately the voice has grown stronger but everytime I try to reach out for her, she keeps getting further and further away from me". Kozmotis sighed sadly as he looked down at his lap.
He then saw a huge wolf paw being placed on his knee and he turned to see Malchior sitting beside him. He softly whimpered and licked his cheek affectionately.
"Kozmotis, I may not have known you as long as Loki and Vlad have, but from what I've seen, any woman would consider herself lucky to have a gentleman like you as a future husband. Why I'd even go so far as to say she'd be lucky to have you as the father of her child". Sigyn said as she reached across the table and placed her hand gingerly in her brother in law's hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze.
"I appreciate you all for trying to make me feel better but I must get ready to go to raise the Night". Kozmotis said as he stood up and headed out of the kitchen.
"Do you want us to go with you?" asked Loki as he got ready to stand up but Kozmotis stopped him.
"No I—I wish to do this night alone, clear my head". Malchior went to follow his master but he stopped him too. He knelt down before his changeling and said as he stroked his head, "You too Malchior. Stay". Malchior whimpered sadly as he watched his master leave in an aura of sadness.
Kozmotis was now up on the tallest tower of his castle and he walked outside to the edge and looked ahead to see that his sister Celestia was setting the sun in the distance signaling to her brother it was now his time to work.
As he watched the sun slowly start to set beyond the horizon, Kozmotis felt in his heart that he hoped that soon the dream he had been having since the beginning of time itself would finally reveal itself to him and that one day, he too could find happiness just like his brother Loki has.
For what good is creating the Night if there's no one special to share it with.
Kozmotis then shot up into the air and began his Night Guardian duties.
The next morning, Celestia rose the sun in the sky. It was the start of spring now and as she rode on Mirana's back in her Pegasus stage she took notice of a royal wolf guard marching towards the Woodland realm.
"On his way to Mirkwood I assume" Celestia said.
"Another suitor for Luna. This is the 10th time this month" said Mirana.
"Are you serious? 10?" Celestia proclaimed in shock.
"Yeah. Legolas has told me Luna has rejected every single male wolf that has come to meet her. In fact he says he didn't like them either. They were all either stuck-up, greedy, or just wanted the benefit of having a She-elf for a bride".
"Dogs more like it. I'm glad Luna is being smart. Not like some of the other female wolves I've seen in some packs where they just roll over and show their bellies and not say a word".
"Yeah but Legolas says that if she doesn't find a husband within three days, she'll be forced to resign as Beta of Mirkwood".
"I unfortunately know that law all too well Mirana. Luna may have been given the Light of Eldar but she never truly was born an Elven wolf to begin with. And a stray cannot rule or continue to rule a pack unless bound by marriage to another kinsmen. Come we must continue on with the spring preparations". She then urged Mirana onwards and the two of them flew off the opposite way of Mirkwood and headed towards the realm of spring.
The 10th suitor to come visit Luna was Prince Ling from the Xing pack that lived in the jungles of China. The Xing pack had been a loyal ally to Mirkwood and they were gifted with immortality for their strength and wisdom by the Eldar.
It took only a few minutes for Prince Xing to come storming back in after finding out Lady Luna was in the garden.
"I have never been more insulted!" Prince Ling proclaimed.
"Prince Ling you're—you are not leaving so soon, are you?" Thranduil stated as he and Aniu watched Ling continue to storm out of the palace.
"Good luck marrying that she-devil off!" Ling proclaimed. It was then the two Alphas took notice that a portion of Ling's pants had been bitten off, particularly around the butt area, and there was also what appeared to be cat scratches on his back. Thranduil groaned and growled out Luna's name.
"Now Thranduil don't act so harshly towards her. Besides I never really cared much for him either, he hardly noticed my existence and didn't even once acknowledge that I was in the room".
"I know my darling but—Luna doesn't have much time left. I'm going to set her straight right now". Thranduil then went outside and walked down the stairs towards the gardens calling out Luna's name three times before seeing her sitting on the fountain with her back turned towards him.
Suddenly appearing before the Elf King, Legolas in his snow leopard form roaring and baring his fangs at his father for even allowing someone as sexist as Prince Ling to even be considered a worthy suitor for Luna.
"Valar Legolas Greenleaf!" Thranduil then tugged on a piece of Ling's cloak that was still in his son's mouth and the two of them tugged on each end until Thranduil was taken back and Legolas kept the remaining robe while Thranduil only had a small portion in his hand. "To think you used my own son to do such an act!"
"Oh Thranduil. Your son merely surprised him. Didn't you Leggy? You gave that over-dressed, self-absorbed Prince Ling a surprise didn't you?" Luna stated as Legolas came up to her and handed her the remaining bit of robe before she took his snow leopard head in her hands and cooed to him.
The two of them laughed as Legolas leaned up against her nuzzling into her as she wrapped her arms around her brother's white and grey coat before looking up at Thranduil who was not amused by their antic.
Luna cleared her throat and Legolas looked down from his father's gaze.
"Luna you've got to stop rejected every suitor who comes to call. The law says you—" Thranduil stated as Luna stood up and walked away but he followed right behind her.
"Must be married to a kinsmen" They both said together, Thranduil in a royal decree tone while Luna said it mockingly having heard this be told to her a hundred times already.
"By your next birthday" Thranduil stated. Luna sighed and as she took hold of the bird cage doors.
"The law is wrong".
"You've only got three more days!" Luna opened the bird cage doors and took out a newly healed female robin.
"Thranduil. I hate being forced into this! If I do marry, I want it to be for love". She gently placed her head against the robin who nuzzled her and as Thranduil said to her again, she stroked the robin gingerly with her finger.
"Luna, it's not only this law—Aniu and I can't be around all the time and, well we—" He gently took the robin from Luna and placed her back in the birdcage as Luna walked away from her adoptive father as he continued, "We don't wish to take the drastic step of exiling you. This is your home".
"Please try to understand. I've never done a thing on my own, I've never had any real friends beyond the pack" Luna stated as she sat back down on the fountain and played with the water. Lying on his stomach still in snow leopard form, Legolas looked up offended then Luna stated, "Except you Brother Legolas". Legolas grumbled and huffed happily as he laid his head back down. "I've never even ventured outside beyond Mirkwood without the pack or besides a mission".
"But Luna you're the Beta of Mirkwood" Thranduil stated as he now stood behind her. Luna sighed in annoyance and proclaimed as she swatted the water.
"Then maybe I don't wanna be your Beta anymore!" She turned away stubbornly with her arms crossed as Thranduil growled in annoyance then stormed out but not before crying out.
"Valar forbid you should have any daughters!" Thranduil then stormed back inside the palace while Luna growled as her eyes phased to wolf gold showing her anger.
They then revert back to her normal brown as she saw the birdcage filled with the birds that were taken in that were either sick or injured but now they were all better and ready to take flight.
As Luna opened the doors and watched them all go freely, she felt in her heart that maybe her time to leave was now.
She had a full-fledged and happy childhood and grew up to be a skilled fighter, but now for the past few weeks she has been hounded and forced to choose a husband that could "benefit" her when all she really wants is true love but also her freedom.
And if she couldn't have it here then she would leave Mirkwood and go searching for it on her own.
Later that night, Luna skillfully snuck out of the palace with her cloak and her weapons hidden inside her cloak. As she snuck through the woods of her kingdom's territory and once she reached the borders just before she took another step she felt a hand at her cloak. She gasped and turned around to see it was Legolas in elf form.
"So it's true. You really are leaving". He said.
"I'm sorry Legolas, but I can't stay here and have my life lived for me, besides you know it would be bound to happen had I not chosen a husband by now" Luna said as she turned towards her brother and cupped his cheek in her hand.
The two of them looked at each other and with tears glistening in her eyes, Luna hugged her brother and her savior and whispered in his ear.
"Thank you for everything you've done for me". Legolas hugged his little sister back and whispered.
"Let me at least guide you the rest of the way, Beorn is currently on patrol". Legolas phased into his snow leopard form and Luna got on his back and as the stealthy cat he was, Legolas managed to get Luna out the rest of the forest.
Once they reached the end, Luna got off his back and told him.
"Namárië Muindor". She then phased into her wolf form and took off running far from the Woodland realm.
Legolas watched with a heavy heart before slowly stepped back into the shadows of the forest with tears slowly falling down his face before turning away and heading back.
As it got later in the night, Luna continued on her trail. She didn't know where she was going she just knew she had to get as far away from Mirkwood as possible hopefully get a few miles before morning so that way Thranduil wouldn't have any hope of finding her.
But as she came across another forest, she suddenly picked up the scent and sound of orcs talking. Her ears lowered and she climbed up into the trees and watched from below as 7 orcs came marching through.
"We've traveled for 4 days and 3 nights, we haven't had anything but moldy bread for 4 stinking days!" One orc proclaimed.
"Yeah, when are we gonna have some real meats?" another orc exclaimed. Luna knew that orcs were more dangerous and smarter than goblins were, if she were to make one slight move, they would see her and then either kill her or cook her for their stew.
"I just hope we get out of here before the Brotherhood of night find us".
"Stop being such a coward and keep moving! The faster we find those Dark Art spells for the master, the faster we'll be back home before daybreak". The lead orc stated. Luna tilted her head in interest but unaware that as she had leaned in for a closer look, a leaf had snapped off and was heading down towards the orcs.
Once she noticed the leaf falling she knew she was done for, when the leaf was in their sights the lead orc took it in its hand and the troop all looked up.
"Up there! An Elven She-wolf!" One of the orcs proclaimed.
"Get her!" cried out the leader. Luna then took that as her signal to run. She jumped skillfully from branch to branch while the orcs were right on her tail down below. Luna took out her bow and arrow and fired a shot right at one of the orcs killing it. "Bring her down!" The leader proclaimed.
Sone of the orcs took out their bows and fired up into the trees. Being skillful thanks to Legolas, she managed to flip over the arrows and completely dodge them that was until the leader fired one that actually hit her in the leg. Luna cried out in pain as she came falling down over 15feet from the trees down to the ground.
When she slammed down onto the ground, she groaned but tried to get herself back up and this time she ran in wolf form but with an arrow still sticking through her back leg, she was still at a disadvantage. She was then knocked in the side by an orc blade which caused her to let out a painful yelp.
Her body was smashed against a tree and she was forced to turn back into her elf form. She weakly opened her eyes to see the leader coming towards her with a carving blade. Fear took over her entire body, she knew this was it.
This was how she was going to die.
Just as the orc was ready to carve Luna up, a dragon suddenly launched out of nowhere and subdued the leader. The orc troop stopped and looked to the sky in fear and they had good reason to be afraid because they knew this dragon and they knew he never traveled alone.
Flying above them they could hear the sound of bats squeaking and the flapping of their wings. Suddenly spearing above one of the orcs, Vlad appeared with fangs bared and he mounted the orc's neck and took a venomous bite into its thick hide killing it. He leaped into the air as a swarm of bats once more and kept taunting the orcs.
"You know I like a woman as much as the next guy does," a voice echoed through the darkness. The orcs kept turning around trying to find the voice and stepping out of the shadows was Loki in full armor including his horned helm and scepter. "But I always ask for consent before I go doing anything kinky".
One of the orcs fired an arrow at him but Loki vanished letting them know that the Loki they were just talking to was merely an illusion.
"Now before we end your pathetic existences, any last words?" Another Loki stated as he came out from behind them. The orcs all turned around frightenedly and none of them responded. "No one? Good. Makes the game all the more fun for me!" Loki then vanished again as his laugh echoed through the night.
Bats continued to squeak, Loki's laugh echoed then finally Kozmotis' voice said.
"By the power of the Brotherhood of Night; we end you!" Suddenly coming down were all three brothers. Loki fired from his scepter, Vlad used his Vampire strength to behead them and Kozmotis used his mighty sword to strike right through their hearts.
When the rest of the orc troop fell down dead, Luna could barely stay away to even get a good look at the three men who had saved her and soon darkness took over her.
Kozmotis, Loki and Vlad all stood back to back of each other as the orc troop's bodies lied on the ground and being dragged towards them by Malchior was the leader who was already all scarred up and bleeding thanks to Malchior. Kozmotis stood forward with his sword at the orc's neck and stated in black speech.
"Why have you come to these forests?" The orc leader only spat at Kozmotis' boot. The orc snarled then Kozmotis turned to Malchior and with a telepathic message, Malchior then lunged at the orc and ripped him apart.
Once the leader was dead, Malchior licked himself clean before turned to Luna who was still lying against the tree. He trotted up to her and sniffed her before softly calling out to Kozmotis and his brothers. The Brotherhood of Night all went up to Luna but when Kozmotis looked at her, something clicked inside of him.
As he stared at her beautiful raven hair and as the moonlight kissed her skin, his heart felt like it had skipped a beat. He knelt down before her and gently cupped her cheek.
"Are we—too late?" asked Vlad. They soon heard her moan and saw her starting to slowly open her eyes.
When Luna opened her eyes, she saw faint figures of the men standing before her but the one closest to her she got a good look at. She took in his piercing but beautiful blue eyes, hair as raven as hers was and such define features. She thought she was in Valinor and standing before her was an angel before her eyes closed again.
"Continue with the patrol, I'll watch over her" Kozmotis said.
"You sure?" Loki asked skeptically.
"Go!" Kozmotis demanded as he turned to his brothers. Vlad and Loki both knew to never question their brother, especially when he used the 'demanding scary voice' as they called it. The two men took off flying into the night sky then he turned to Malchior and said, "You too Malchior," Malchior huffed and nuzzled Kozmotis' chest and purred. "I'll be fine, I have to heal her, she's my responsibility, not yours. Go. Follow Loki and Vlad. I'll return with word when she wakes up".
Malchior nodded then turned to the sky and took off flying as he roared. Kozmotis looked down upon this beautiful woman and gently picked her up careful of her wounds and carried her off to a special spot of the forest where no predators or scavengers would find her.
When he reached the spot near the river, with his powers of nature, he created a nice enough shelter for this woman to rest in made from tree bark, vines and leaves. He then entered inside the shelter and gently set her down then using his own magic he produced some pillows and a warm blanket for her to keep warm as well as a small fire pit inside.
Kozmotis looked at her and couldn't help but feel a strong connection with this woman, it's almost like he's seen her before in his dreams. He began to think if she was the one he's been trying to find, the one who could give him his happy ending. As he stroked away some of her hair away from her face, he smiled softly down at her admiring her.
