Chapter 6.

Growing up, I was a quiet and observant child. I loved the silence and usually kept to myself for most of the time, apart from being locked up in my room by Ronan, whenever he didn't want to see my face.

Ronan, on the other hand was quite different, he had a weakness of being influenced by his friends, that's why after we were left as orphans, pack members took it upon themselves to ' parent ' us, or in better understanding, groom us into the future leaders of the pack.

My mother passed on first, due to an unknown sickness, leaving my father and her mate, devastated. I admired my father, for how he stepped up and actually took care of us.

There was relief, that at least one parent was left.

Even through his grief, he still gave us the needed attention and comfort. We were still so dependent on him, that when he up and left one night, we both were left lost. In denial, I would wait up till late for him, until my brother told me to give up, because he was not coming back.

My brother wasn't as affected as I was, about our father's sudden departure. In fact, he looked almost relieved, it unnerved me. I soon found out why. Ronan had been hanging around a close friend of my father's quite a lot, the man was a man of a few words, but scary.

There was something about him that didn't irk me the right way, being around him made me super alert and wary of his attention on us, especially me.

After my father's departure, the betas of the pack tried to take custody of us, but for some unknown reason, my father's letter said he wanted the man to be our legal guardian. Thank the heavens for my grandmother, who had put her foot down, wanting us to be under her care. Surprisingly, Ronan said no, because she wanted to stay with the man, Michael.

With that, my grandmother took me away to live with her and I lost contact of Ronan, for some time. Time spent with my gran gave her insight of how different I was.

At first, everything had been normal until my brother came by for a visit. The minute he stepped through the door, I knew that he'd changed. Everything about him was dark and calculating. One night when my gran had been in a deep sleep, he'd suggested we go play hide and seek, in the forest. The naive little me agreed and went on to play, believing her brother was now giving her the attention, she'd longed for.

How wrong was I?

We'd played for a while until exhaustion had hit me, because of the alpha genes, having transformed at an early age, I'd slept in my wolf form.

Cold water prickling through my skin had woken me up, making me all aware that I'd been thrown into the lake. I tried swimming to land but found myself being pushed back down, until my little arms gave out on me and I went underwater. Everything following after that was a blur, but because the vision of what truly happened to me, played in my dreams, I saw it all. I saw my own brother, Ronan, injecting me with wolfsbane and some other substance, telling people that I was sick and having Michael's doctor friend, announce to everyone that I had contacted my mother's sickness.

Time and time again, they slowly killed my wolf, until I felt that she was actually gone. I had no time to grasp that fact nor grieve because I fell right into a month long coma.

Waking up, things had changed. Ronan was cold and distant, Michael was nowhere to be found and my grandmother, oh my sweet grandmother didn't feel well, but she never showed it to many. I felt it, her emotions. My senses were ten times sharper and I could detect anything wrong, not to mention the things I'd speak.

My grandmother did her best to shield me away from eyes and keep me hidden while she tried creating normalcy for me. We thought we were the only one's who knew about me but no, Michael did and he tried his best to meddle in my life, luckily enough, Ronan was always in the way as if he somehow knew Michael's agenda.

Not too long, my granny's life was threatened by Ronan, thus I was left with no choice but to live under my brothers wing, where he had room to do whatever he pleased.

My brother believed he had so much control over everything, especially me but how wrong he was. I'd lost a part of me but gained purpose.

I have so much in my hands and nothing has seemed right up till now, except meeting a mate who's tied up in a mental cage, his heart forever troubled.

I sit stretched out , my legs in front of me, back leaned against the tree as I overlook the beautiful garden I'd found in my wandering about. No one has dared to speak to me, even through their curiosity, the pack members carried on with their business.

I shake off an image of actually being Luna of this very pack, the number one strongest pack to still reign till now, a descended pack of the royal pack.

I can't be thinking of such things, when the now proves either a long journey ahead or an end, to something which hadn't even started.

Patience, that's all I can dwell on. Be patient till a spark of change captures my sight.

"Hello." A small voice says, knocking me out of my thoughts.

Looking down, I notice two cute children around the ages of 5 in front of me. One is a boy full of dark brown thick curls, light blue eyes and a much tanned skin, the other being a little girl with long brown hair, light blue eyes, the cutest button nose and a small spot on the bottom of her chin. Their chubby cheeks tempt me to squish them and coo at them.

Such cute children.

"Hi and who might you be?" I ask, a smile on my face.

" I'm Noah and this is my sister Nancy." The boy speaks up.

" We are 5!" Nancy jumps in.

"Wow, you're quite big aren't you?" I can't help but awe at them.

"You're really pretty." Noah comments, his eyes widening after in surprise.

"Yeah and your hair too." Nancy adds, oblivious to her embarrassed little brother.

"Why thank you, so do you guys want to join me?"

Their vigorous nods makes me chuckle as I make room for them to join me on the bench.

"Oh no, we have our blanket, you're the princess, you'll sit on your high chair." Noah speaks up with determination, pulling out a small blanket from his backpack, laying it right in front of my feet.

" But I thought I was the princess." Nancy frowns at her brother.

"Nope, you're the angel. She's the princess." He says, making her smile.

"Okay." She chirps happily, joining her brother on the blanket.

Oh my, this little boy is cute, mature for his age and has a kind heart. There's something special about him. Yes, a natural born leader. His sister will be of great help too.

"What's your name princess?" Hello little charmer.

"My Name is Catherine. "

"Princess Catherine, see Nancy, I knew she was right to be a princess." Noah says proudly.

"And you are my little Prince." I flick his nose softly, making him blush.

"Can you read us a story?" Nancy says, pulling out a reading book from her bag.

"Sure." I say taking it." Oh beauty and the beast." I say.

Both children perk up, being attentive.

"Once upon a time....." I start, already diving into the story.

There's just something special about being surrounded by children. They are life and bring something freshening and calming. They bring joy and happiness to ones heart.

As time passes, more curious children join us, settling behind and around Noah and Nancy. I've already moved on from beauty and the beast and onto my own made up ones.

I mentally smirk at their eager and anxious faces, the joy that fills my heart almost blinds my senses from catching sight of the alpha, standing leaned against a tree, his eyes on me.

"Why'd you stop?!" Noah speaks up.

I snap out of my staring, coughing a single cough.

"Sorry."

"No I'm sorry," Mica speaks up, grabbing the children's attention.

"Alpha, are you here to listen to the story too?" Nancy asks.

I look at him again, our eyes connecting for a second before he looks down at the kids, a soft expression taking over his face. " Yes, if I am welcome."

"Of course you are, right Princess Catherine? " Noah says, looking at me.

"Yes there's more than enough room for everyone." I say.

"See alpha, the princess said it's okay." Noah says.

Mica nods, settling down on the grass, leaning against the tree.

"Can we carry on with the story now?" One little girl says.

"Yes, now where were we? " I ask.

"The hunter saw the princess in the tower."

I smile, taking in a big breath for dramatic effect, peeking a look at each of their anxious faces.

Landing on a pair of green eyes that make my heart flip once again.
