Little Luna (4 years ago)

Where's mummy?, where's mummy?, this was going through little Luna's mind as she laid down on the bed with her favourite bed time story books. Immediately, she sensed the vibrations in the air and heard voices coming from the living room which was rather far away from her own room, she quickly conducted herself knowing fully well that her mother was arriving. As she heard the creaking sound of the door, she cracked one eye open just to be sure that it was her mother, and it was. This was completely weird yet it felt completely normal to Luna, as she felt that every child probably knew the exact time their parents were going out and the exact location and every single thing they bought while arriving back without asking questions. Little did she know that this was about to change her life forever.

13 years later

I've always had a penchant for fairytale stories , I could understand every detail, every sweet moment that always made me feel ecstatic and hopeful but as time goes on, you realize the reason why they call it a fairytale, because it isn't real and you just have to face whatever life offer you head on. As I headed towards school on foot, I couldn't help but think about my elder sister, she was supposed to drive me to school but as usual, she's made up some silly excuse about being in some planning committee, and arriving early, at some point, I just shut her out. It was such a monotony experience that I got used. Phoebe exhibited a very weird character as her exterior seemed cool, calm and collected. She could act as the best sister in the world but then there was something fishy about her, everyone saw her as an Angel, yet I couldn't help but picture her in a different way. It was probably the anger in me, I decided to not put too much though into it, besides walking to school really helps me to think about my life and what I want to do. I could go to college, meet an incredible boy, marry him, have kids and go on with my life. Just like that, it would be the perfect life but as I thought of it, something felt off, I just couldn't put my finger on it, I pushed that thought off. This is my life and I intend to live a fulfilled and successful one. As I got closer to school, a weird gust of wind flew past me taking my hood off and releasing my well bonded black hair. Ugh, I spent hours taming that. The weather felt different as I felt the vibrations in the air, it was as though someone was watching me, the same feeling I felt when I was at a much younger age and I knew when mum was coming into my room, no this is definitely not normal. I ran as fast as my legs could take me and immediately felt calm when I reached the school premises. As I walked closer, I felt a light tap on my shoulders and immediately jumped back in fright.

"Woaw, well someone's a little bit jumpy" my friend Samantha said in a rather amused and concerned tone.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah, no I'm completely fine but don't scare me like that again" I hit her rather playfully on her arm which only resulted in more giggling from her.

"I only did that because you always knew when I was coming, its no fun trying to scare you when you already know I'm there, I always wondered how you did that, anyways why couldn't you tell it was me today?"

"I...I don't know, I guess I was a little distracted to notice you"

"Ouch!!, Luna ouch!, that definitely hit me in the gut" I giggled at her failed attempt on feigning an angry face.

"You know I didn't mean it like that"

"Whatever...so..miss, you just had to walk to school today again, didn't you?"

"Its not a big deal"

She looked at me in disbelief

"Not a big deal my foot, the girl has a freaking car which she 'oh so surprisingly' doesn't want you to sit on, much less come close to"

I could tell she was getting angry again

"Will you calm down, I told you I actually feel a whole lot better getting to school on foot, it makes me th.."

"Yeah yeah it makes you think about your life, your future and what not, keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel any better"

"Please just let it go"

She seemed to calm down a bit

"Fine, but just so you know, my offer still stands, my brother and I are available to pick you up anytime"

"Thanks, besides I'll be turning 18 soon and I can't wait to get my own car"

"Oh I can't wait to see it"

She said as we squealed happily.

As we walked along the hallway, a familiar scent hit me, I turned towards the direction and found Aaron, my Aaron, he just looked so perfect leaning on his locker but one thing or rather one person just had to spoil the picture, Divya. She's a cheerleader, correction, the cheerleader in the school and the most annoying and surprising part was that she was really nice. She was so nice that even I started to paint myself as the villain here. Both divya and Aaron were dating. Aaron and I were really close friends before Divya came along but what can I do except to watch from a  distance and try to move on, so far, its not been easy, I felt Samantha moving my head towards her direction.

"Its okay, its gonna be okay"

"What...what are you talking about?, I don't know what you mean by that"

"Oh come on, do you really think that you could fool me, I know you have a thing for Aaron, you didn't join us freshman year but I still knew you had the hots for him.

It was true, I joined great oak high two years ago when my family relocated to this remote city. I was rather surprised when we arrived at this place. The area felt so serene yet the air felt thick as if something ominous had happened here before. The day I joined great oak high, of course I felt shy, but Aaron made me feel so comfortable as we spent a lot of time together, that is until Divya arrival last year. She was kinda new and was already the captain of the squad, weird, but you wouldn't think so if your family had power in high places. I opened my locker and reluctantly took my books, Samantha and I were about to leave for our first class when I felt Divya coming towards us, oh no, I can't act so stupid, get it together.

"Hey guys"

I turned and gave her the brightest smile ever, I couldn't help but feel like the fake person here.

"Divya, well don't you look so happy today, let me guess, you and Aaron are having a rather great day aren't you?"

She jumped in delight as she answered

"Oh yes yes yes!!, it's our one year anniversary today"

"Woaw....really" I felt Samantha giving me the pity look, one which I really didn't need right now.

"Yeah, I'm so so happy"

"I can tell, well let me be the first to say congratulations, I'm happy for you both, sincerely"

"I know you are, you're our friend duh!!, Sam i'm feeling rather hurt right now"

"Oh I'm sorry, congratulations, may you have many dating years with him together"

I pushed her slightly with my elbow as I felt her chuckling beside me.

"Well I hope so too, are you guys going to class, let's all go together" she said as she placed her hands on both I and Samantha's shoulders and we paraded happily to class. Things just couldn't have been better than this, now could it?, yet there was that hope, hope that o would have something to call my own and I had the feeling that it'll come sooner rather than later, it was just waiting for the appropriate time...
