Deep in the dungeon

Luma felt like she'd ran for miles before stopping in front of a large building. Her heart was still pounding as she clutched Novar in her arms. He was getting heavier, telling her that he was soon to have a growth spurt. Putting him down, Luma looked at the building, it looked as if it lead down into the lower parts of the palace. Two guards stood outside, talking to one another.

A voice is Luma's head urged her to investigate, she wanted to know what this place was. There was something about the darkness of where the stairs lead to that called her name, inviting her to explore.

Seeing that the two guards were clearly occupied with their conversion. Luma, followed closely by Novar, snuck towards the entrance behind a number of pillars. Creeping slowly into the shadows of the downwards stairwell.

She smiled at Novar, thinking she'd managed to get by unnoticed. She was wrong.

"HEY!! You're not allowed down here!!" The loud shout from a guard noticing her presence startled her. Cause her magic to surge. As she turned to face the guard coming towards her, her entire body, along with Novar was engulfed in a flash of white. And to the guards surprise, she was gone.

Moments later she reappeared, stumbling over Novar and falling onto her back. The floors beneath her were cold and the atmosphere of the place she had ended up was hostile.

"What are you doing here?"

Luma sat up upon hearing the cold tone she immediately recognised. Turning her head towards where the voice had came from, she saw him. The greasy looking man she had seen in chains. But he wasn't in chains anymore. He was in a cell.

Novar hissed at the man, he to could tell he was not a safe person.

"I.. um." Luma stumbled over her words. There was something familiar about his cold glared. She felt as if she'd seen those eyes before. In a nightmare.

"Well? What's your reason for being down in the dungeons? Its not plavw for a precious princess to be playing." Loki spat. Pacing in his cell.

"I.. was with Thor. I got lost and ran here and.. wait... why are you in the dungeons?" Luma asked, tilting her head.

Loki smirked at the curious elf, part of him wondered why she wasn't crying or shaking in fear as she had been when they first met. "I was meant to be king. I tried to rule over Midgards pathetic mortals but my brother and his circus group of friends thought otherwise. And locked me up here."

"They locked you up for trying to be king?" She didn't quite understand.

A cruel chuckle came from the Prince. "No you stupid child. I slaughtered hundreds of innocent people, ripping their souls from their bodies!"

Fear glistened in the elfs eyes. Exactly what Loki wanted to see. But he wanted more. "And it doesn't end there..."

Luma watched in horror as Loki's skin began to turn blue and his eyes red. "No...."

"Yes sweet child." Loki grinned, watching as the small girl backed away. "I am one of them. One of the monsters who tore your kingdom to shreds!!"

"No... no!!" Luma cried, frantically looking around for a way to escape. That's why his cruel eyes looked familiar, he was one of them. The reason her family were gone.

"And if you ever come dome here again I'll make sure i do the same to you as what my kind did to your subjects!"

She had heard enough. Grabbing the hissing cat at her feet Luma sprinted in a random direction her tears blinding her. She could feel her magic surging again, she just wanted out of here.

She could hear Loki's cruel laughter echoing behind her as her magic engulfed her once more.

After settling the dispute with the man in the market, Thor searched all over for Luma. Sending guards all over in search for her. And finally after what felt like an eternity, Thor found her huddled in the back ally of a bar. Curled up crying, scared half to death with the black cat hissing by her side.

Carrying her back to the palace, Thor tried desperately to find out what had happened to scare her so much. But Luma was too frightened to talk. She just wanted back in her chambers.

After dinner, Thor made his way to visit Luma, a tray of fruit and cake in his hands. He had done nothing but worry since they got back. What could have happened to frighten her the way it did?

He entered her room after knocking only to find her huddled on the window sill, staring down at Asgard as nighttime fell, with 2 riding cats. One stuffed, and one very real. He placed the tray of food on her bed and approached Luma carefully.

"Luma, are you feeli-"

"Who was the man in chains?" Luma asked, unintentionally cutting him off. "The one who stood with the king when I arrived?"

Thor frowned, why did she want to know about Loki. "Thats my brother. Loki. He's was in chains because he has been locked away for his crimes."

"What is he?"

"A god?"

"What is he really?"

Thor froze. He knew what Loki was. His father had told him when he returned from banishment. But Luma shouldn't know. After all, it was Loki's kind that had killed all remaining ice elves.

"He's.. He's a..." Thor struggled to to tell her. "My brother... he's a-"

"A frost giant?" Luma whispered.

For a moment, both sat in silence. Thor wondered why Luma was so suddenly curious about Loki and his heritage. Especially since she had only met him once.

"Yes... Loki was born a frost giant on Jotunheim. But he was raised here in Asgard. Along side me, he was... he is my brother. We grew up together. Fought together. But then he made some bad choices. Committed crimes he can never make up for. And that it why he has been locked away."

Luma looked up at Thor for a moment. "Did Loki... kill my family?"

"No. Loki has not left his cell. He can't. He was not there the night your kingdom fell." Thor calmly reassured her.

After that, Luma fell silent. Thor stayed to keep her company whilst she picked at her plate of food, he could tell something was toying with her thoughts. But he didn't pry.

"I shall see you tomorrow Luma." Thor smiled softly as he opened her chamber door. "Sleep well."

The tired elf yawned and climbed into her bed. Snuggling down with Novar. Finally feeling a little more at home now that he was with her.

As she closed her eyes, playing with Novar's soft fur, she drifted into a not so peaceful sleep.

Luma found herself back on Alfheim. Back in the snowy mountains of the North. Back home. She frantically looked around. What was she doing here?

'Wasn't I on Asgard? Why am I here?' Her mind raced with questions. "Thor!?" She called. Watching as snow began to fall heavily around her. She tried to move through the snow but felt a mysterious weight slow her down. "Thor?! Where are you!?" She cried, the feeling terror setting in.

"It's pointless call for him child." A voice spoke, sending chills down her spine. Turning slowly, Luma shifted through the snow and looked at where the voice came from. The sight before her made her blood run cold.

A frost giant.

Before she could blink the snow beneath her turned red, soaked with the blood of the numerous corpses of elves that had appeared.

"No... please! Stop!" Luma pleaded, stepping away as more frost giants surrounded her. "Please don't kill me."

Cruel laughter echoed around her. "We don't take prisoners." The Frost Gaint grinned, lurching towards Luma.

With a high pitched scream, Luma lifted her arms to protect her face, squeezing her eyes shut. Awaiting the attack.

But it never came.

Opening her eyes she saw the Frost Giant who had tried to attack her, skewered on a large spike of ice.

"I wouldn't touch her if I was you." Someome hissed.

Luma knew that voice. It couldn't be. Turning once more to face her savior, Luma's eyes went wide. "L..Loki??"

Seeing the prince out of his cell and saving her life was a shock. And not something she'd ever expect from the man who threatened to kill her mere hours ago.

Loki pulled Luma to his side, away from the other Frost Gaints who were now advancing on them both. "You need to run Luma, run and don't look back. Not matter what." He told her.

"What about you? They'll kill you!" Luma cried, clinging to his arm.

"I'll be fine. Go! Luma go now! RUN!" He yelled, throwing a few sharp knives at the oncoming attackers.

Luma hesitated, but only for a moment, before breaking into a sprint. 'Run and don't look back.' Loki's words repeated in her brain.

"Don't look back? Why?" She asked herself.

Suddenly she heard a cry of pain. But it wasn't a frost giants.

Against Loki's command, Luma looked behind her as she ran, gasping at the sight. "Loki no!!" He had been impaled, on so many spears of ice. His cries of pain echoes around the mountains. And yet, he called out.

"Keep running!"

But she couldn't. The snow beneath her engulfed her feet, making it impossible to run. Tears fell from her eyes as she tried so desperately to rip her feet from the ground and run. But it was useless.

The frost giants were closing in. Faster and faster. Ready to kill.

Accepting her fate. Luma closed her eyes and awaited the end...

-----------

"Loki!" Luma's voice echoed around her chamber as she suddenly awoke in her bed. Sitting up quickly with her heart pounding and cheeks wet from tears.

A dream? Had it been a dream??

Looking around her, she came to realise she was safe in her bed. Not on Alfheim, far away from danger. "Loki.. saved me." She muttered. "Why?" She had so many questions.

And there was only one person she could ask.

Loki.
