Withered and Gone

HELLO *dies*

Ahh

You guys need to be on here more, I'm already working on like a thousand novelizations n other books on my main account and I am a-shook. and I can't think of anything for this book

I am so sorry

But this was requested by ProwlerGal. Thanks for the suggestion!! ^-^ The scenario is existentially just what is Petra told Lukas about her withersickness instead of Jesse doing it? I think the original request was that Petra initially told Lukas before she told Jesse, but I kinda messed that up. Sorry!

Also don't mind me, just listening to cute shipping songs like Floating with You and Sunburn and watching EtN while writing this x)

The illness churned in Petra's stomach and head, tiny veins of fire shot down her spine, everything spun. All she could make out was choppy colors of sickening greens, teal, limes, whites...tubes winding around the stone-floored laboratory, with all kinds of items, mostly Redstone objects, moving through like blood in veins.
Zombies...had been unleashed.

Zombies...spiders. Skeletons. Arrows whizzed through the air.

You can't go on like this, a tiny voice softly spoke.

But another part of her instinct told her to keep fighting. Right now, Jesse hanked a spider from Axel's back, whipping out her sword. It sliced through the poor creature in an instant, and all that was left was dust, puffing out like smoke for a few moments.

Meanwhile, Olivia was running from a skeleton. He shot an arrow. Before Petra's tired-out and aching body could react, an arrow had launched itself into Olivia's shoulder. The dark-skinned girl winced loudly but continued to run as two more skeletons tripped over each-other.

This was chaos, almost.

"IN - THROUGH THE PORTAL!" She heard Jesse yell.

Petra's mind suddenly came to a halt, abruptly stopping, and the next thing she knew, Jesse was pulling on her arm. Petra sat up on the teal carpet that had surrounded her, and she turned to see a massive hoard of zombies steadily making their way to them.
Petra stood, her knees broken and aching. She stumbled, her head hurting more than it ever had. The Wither Sickness taking its toll.

Only Jesse knew.
Only Jesse could know.

And yet...

"PETRA! Are you okay!?" Jesse almost yelled, supporting the auburn-haired girl. Petra nodded weakly, feeling ready to vomit.
She nodded meekly and the two made it to the portal. A smaller room, lined with brightly yellow-orange lit blocks and an ender-portal in the dead center, swirling with green and purple colour.

Petra felt absolutely sick to her stomach, but she hopped it. Almost instantaneously, she was spat out, her feet almost sinking into the spongy surface of The End.
She bent over in pain.
"Common Petra, we just have to get near these-" abruptly, Axel called out to them.

"Endermen!" Lukas yelled, and all five (six, counting Rueben,) ducked, shielding their eyes from the black and lanky end-creatures. It gave a low snarl, its swirling bright purple eyes staring them down before heading back.

"Okay, where to next Jesse?" Olivia asked, still crouched. Smiling, Jesse held up the Amulet, the one thing guiding them to Soren, since they had already managed to find Magnus and Ellegaard..and then abruptly lose Magnus and Ellegaard. The bright white section of the Amulet lit up in a luminous glow, then promptly winked out.

It could've been from the water in the previous room we were just in, but...then she remembered.

"Stuff like that dosen't work in the Nether...probably not the End, either."

Lukas rolled his eyes and snorted.
"Woo! Great - so, hah, first we're trapped, and now we're lost."

He gestured wildly to the enderman surrounding the purple sky.
"So, we go from. uh...a death machine that almost drowns us, and now we land here, in The End. I mean, hey, why don't we just pack it all up and throw ourselves off the nearest cliff? It's the perfect name for it, too, since now, incredibly, we don't even know where we're going."

"Hey-I'm trying my best. We're all alive, none of us are in danger right now, and just because the Amulet's not working dosen't mean we can't-" Jesse started to retort.

"We might never find this guy, Jesse," Lukas interrupted.

"There he is," Axel pointed to a figure in the distance. Both of them turned to see somebody in a cloak running up a giant birch staircase that winded around the ender-spires.

"But we'll never get past all these endermen," Axel said rather matter-of-factly. Petra pushed aside her hazing thoughts and moved to the front of the group.

"Everyone, follow me. I'll get us to the other side-just, just stay behind me, and we'll...we'll be, we'll be fine," Petra heard herself say before breaking down coughing.

"Okay-I think I can lead us outta here," Lukas murmured, looking back at the others. "I'll just go, I'll lead, and Petra can rest."

"I don't need to rest!" Petra countered, offended and almost hurt, even if it was true. but reluctantly, she stepped back as Lukas lead the group. Finally, the group was at the base of the stairs, on a plum-blue and cream-coloured platform.
"Nice job, Lukas," Petra told the blonde, giving him her biggest smile, although it felt pretty forced. The former Ocelot smiled awkwardly, and Petra could see him blush a bit, although she took no notice.

Then, suddenly, Petra felt herself falling. Only for a moment, though, because Jesse was at her side in an instant. No one took notice.

"Hey-Jesse! Petra! You coming?" He asked, and Petra squeezed her eyes shut in pain, her chest heaving, her blood blazing.
Jesse helped her up, and for a quick moment she saw Lukas looking back. The shorter sandy-haired boy had his eye squinted, his eyebrows turned up in suspicion.

Sooner or later...you'll have to tell him.

Petra stumbled a bit as the two made their way to a long flight of stairs, and Petra swore in a low grumble under her breath.
"Well, better start the climb now," Olivia murmured, beginning to step up the long birch steps.
They began to climb, and each step was a thunderstorm or a bomb going on in Petra's lower leg, aches in her back, tsunamis in her head. But she had to keep going - this Withersickness couldn't last forever..right?

They spun around-how many flights of stairs were in this End?-and her eyelids were threatening to twist shut.

"Jesse-" She coughed. "Can you give me a minute? I'm fine, it's just-" She said hastily. Jesse's eyebrows turned up in sympathy, and she asked, "Need a hand?"

Petra shook her head and stepped forwards, resting her arm on Jesse's shoulder. "No thanks-I, I should be fine."

She felt Jesse steady her, and Petra could barely whisper, 'thanks,' before Axel shouted, "There!"

There, with a ladder, were trapdoors. Petra sighed and let herself relax, her violently wobbling knees still standing. She couldn't sit down, not for a second. She was the strong one in the group, and she intended to keep it that way,
What is above those trapdoors was an Enderdragon? A zombie apocalypse? Whatever it was, she had to be prepared.

Jesse offered to go up and look, her feet disappearing up the ladder.
Lukas sat.

Axel and Olivia sprawled themselves across the ender-blocks, panting and leaning their heads back.
"I'm never...doing that...ever again," Olivia wheezed, sprawling herself on the birch steps.
"What about when we have to go back?" Axel replied, and Olivia gave a half-hearted groan.

Petra looked across, where Lukas stood, leaning against a banister. He sometime glanced over in Petra's direction, then his gaze would flicker away.
Petra winced inwardly. She wanted so badly to let him know that she had been infected before escaping to the Nether, how she had struggled through the violently red and maroon pigmen-filled land, sword in hand, struggling to get back to them.
She wanted to let him know that he had been such a good friend to her, how during Endercon she was so glad to have him be part of the team, how much-

"Hey Jesse! You up there yet?" Axel was now standing underneath the trapdoors.

"Yep! You guys-wow-this place is..beautiful." Jesse sounded almost mesmerized and far away. She sounded at ease.

Not a good sign.

Glancing at each other, the rest of the team-er, sorry, The Order Of The Pig- began to climb the ladders.
Petra waited until they had all gone up before grabbing onto the rails. She felt seasick, but hoisted herself up, rung by rung, until she had finally forced herself through.

What she saw made her mouth fall open.
An entire overworld laid above the trapdoors, with soft pastel minty green grass, terra cotta bark wood, soft-looking leaves, and a bright white sun staring above an artificial-looking robins egg blue sky.
A couple fake zombies stood near a little bridge, and a couple little huts closeby.
Petra blinked in the nearly blinding light until it seemed to dim and their eyes adjusted.

"Whoa," was all she could spit out.

"Guys!" Jesse called from a place near the bridge. She punched part of the tree and felt the underneath of her foot.
"It's-this is all wool!"
As the others gathered near the bridge, Axel stumbled on one of the soft wool blocks and tumbled down, crushing Lukas.
Axel abruptly got off, and Petra laughed a bit in her head.

Third time that day.

"What kind of Order of the Stone member makes a world entirely made of wool?" Olivia asked seemingly no one.

"We came here for nothing!" Lukas abruptly spit, throwing a piece of wool on the ground, and Petra instinctively leaped back in awkward surprise.
"Lukas, we'll find Soren. We just need to-"

"How do you know that!? We could be trapped here for all we know!" Jesse visibly paled as the blonde angrily stormed away in the wool wonderland.

"What's his problem?" Axel asked, crossing his arms, his one black eyebrow furrowing.

"Uh-just, give Lukas some space, okay? He's probably just tired - we all are. Let's just let him breathe." Jesse suggested.
The others nodded.

Petra couldn't take much more of this. Mumbling something about needing to sit for a minute, she weakly walked over past the birch wooden bridge to a tree and plopped herself down, resting her head.

Not for long though, she reminded herself. Only for a moment-the others can't see you weak like this...

A few minutes later, Petra opened her eyes to see Jesse standing over her.
"You doing okay?"

Petra nodded weakly.

"I'll be okay," She sighed, closing her eyes again. But something swarmed in her mind, and she stood. "I just...feel bad about Lukas. I know he's concerned-and he knows. He knows something's off about...me. My sickness. That I'm not myself."

Leaning against the tree, the two looked over to where Lukas sat on the minty-wool, 'grass,' near the bridge, looking down. His expression was unreadable.

Jesse hmmed, then said, "You know, I could talk to him for you, if you want."

Petra thought.
"I can do it," She said finally. "it's my fault-I did all those reckless things that would've gotten me killed. I don't regret helping you guys out, but-" Her voice strained. "He's so worried about me."

Jesse hmmed again, then half-smiled.

"It's kinda cute, actually," She smiled. "He's really worried about you. Seriously-in the Nether, when we were hiding from the Witherstorm, before we met up with you - you were all he really talked about. All he wanted to know was that you were okay." Jesse leaned against a tree quietly, her dark brown eyes thoughtful and content.

Warmth spread to Petra's already pale and greying cheeks.
"O-Oh," She replied, keeping her voice deep. She swallowed.

Then Jesse smiled at her.
"Have you ever been to a place more weird than this place?" Her eyes twinkled with amusement and excitement.

Petra couldn't blame her; if she wasn't so tired, she would definitely be excited about this adventure to find Soren.

"Well, one time I did go to a village where there was a villager throwing carrots into a giant hole," Petra smiled. "That was pretty weird."

Jesse laughed.

"Okay-how about I try to get us out of this room, and you can go talk to Lukas-alright?"

Petra sighed. She thought that only Jesse could know about her being infected, but the slow-growing magenta-and-purple smear on her arm told her otherwise.

For a moment, she stood, letting an invisible wind soothe her, closing her eyes. It felt nice to just let herself...rest.

Sighing, she nodded, and she crossed the bridge while Jesse went to find a way out. Her feet squishing against the soft squishy wool of the pastel teal/turquoise grass, she walked up to Lukas.

"Petra!" He exclaimed. He still sat on the wool, leaning against the wall, looking down.

"Is Jesse finding a way out of here?"

Petra nodded. "She's working on it. Listen, Lukas, are you okay? You've been acting really strange. Is this about me?" She bent down to his level.

A sudden headache racked through her body like an icy tsunami (or maybe it was incredibly hot; she couldn't tell,) and a cry of pain slipped from her gritted teeth. Lukas immediately looked over her, panic flashing in his eyes.
"Are you okay?" He asked.

Petra nodded.

"I just felt...that you should know the truth." She glanced back at the tree where she had previously stood, and she let her eyelids fall as her head swung back to him.

"I'm sick, Lukas. I got infected."

She pulled down her black sleeve and heard Lukas gasp. "I knew it," He mumbled in awe. "I knew something was wrong, I just didn't think that-" He stopped. "I...Petra, I'm so sorry."

She could remember everything.

Seeing Jesse get hit by a giant tentacle that loomed from the darkening and torn black sky, flying and hitting Lukas in the back, the two of them falling into an end-portal. Her head hurting but her determination strong, the Witherstorm's bright purple gazes searching the ground. The obsidian of the temple becoming sand, morphing and crumbling like soft cookie dough as the creature absorbed the blocks.
Petra raising her sword, screaming until she was hoarse, obsidian being levitated and swirling around her to reveal a smoky raining mottled grey sky, with blazing fires and dark olive green trees and screaming citizens.
Getting hit with block after block, diving into sand pits, and finally, the bright purple gaze resting on her. Lifting her up into the air.
Feeling her body become stiff like a statue, screaming as something entered her blood, tearing her way through the blackened smoky Witherstorm, falling...

Falling through cold...

Falling through rain...

Falling through a blaze, through fires, feeling the same storm, tsunami, and fiery symptoms starting, hitting her head on a sand-pit, a rock. Getting knocked out, having vivid and mortifying hallucinations of Lukas, Jesse, Axel...all of them, dripping with wither-blood, magenta and violet in colour, yelling out her name before collapsing. Her blood being on absolute fire...

Petra sighed.

How could she ever explain to Lukas that kind of pain-she wouldn't want him to worry about her anymore than he already was.
Without thinking, she pulled him into a hug.

"I'm sick." Her voice broke.

Lukas hugged her back every amount, and she could feel the panic and grief that was coming from her friend-God, how long had they been friends now? It seemed like forever-since the two of them were 10, maybe 11...when Petra had a stupid gap in her teeth, and wore her bandana around her neck, and Lukas was so much shorter, and the two would explore the woods together...

And now the two 19-year-olds broke down together. On the inside, though. Just stood, hugging each other. It felt nice, and right, and made her feel hopeful.

Thanks Jesse, Petra thought quietly.

"Is there a cure?" Lukas asked once they stopped. They both sat on the soft minty-teal wool, and Petra shook her head hugging her knees.

"Not that I know of. I'm assuming that, when the Wither's defeated, it'll sort of just//-"

"Go away?" Lukas finished. Petra gave a small half-shrug half-smirk, nodding awkwardly. "Right; exactly."

"Well, I'll do whatever it takes to make you feel better. I just-when you wouldn't go in through the portal with us-I went-hah." He gave a soft chuckle. "I went insane. When we were in the Nether, in the Order temple, in the treehouse we'd built...all I could think about was if you were okay. I felt that...if I hadn't panicked..."

His face became splashed with coral, and Petra felt her own face become warm. Though she didn't quite understand why.

She felt completely helpless. She was supposed to be the warrior who made shady deals and kicked butt and stood up for those who couldn't stand up for themselves. But now she was just...withering away.
She couldn't even protect Lukas from feeling like it was his fault.

"You could've gotten out in time, and we could've all been together, and you wouldn't be..." He slowed, and Petra could see anger and tears bubbling up to his eyes. His throat caught. "..Dying."

"No! No no no no no, Lukas!" Petra couldn't help but place a hand on his shoulder, his mouth agape at his words. "Listen to me! None of this is your fault!"

He looked up.

"I made the decision to stay and get you guys to safety-I risked my life to help all of us! I-ah-" She wasn't good with words, with comforting. She was tough-she couldn't do this...

"This isn't your fault at all. It was my choice, I wanted to keep you safe. We'll get through this together. As long as we work together, we stay together, and we keep our calm...we'll be fine. We'll defeat the Witherstorm, we'll have my sickness go away, and even if it dosen't, we'll find a way!

"We just need to...stick together."

She gave an emotional smile, stood, and held out her hand. The soft and comforting quiet of this world as Jesse hit buttons to solve this world's puzzle gave Petra a soft piece of mind.

Lukas looked at her hand and grabbed it. She pulled him up, and the two gave each other awkward smiles.

"You gonna be okay?" She asked softly as the two made their way to Axel, Olivia, and Rueben.

"Are you?" Lukas asked. When he didn't get a response, he nodded. "Yeah. As long as we find a way to fix the Amulet, find Soren, and defeat this storm."

"Heck yeah," Petra replied.

--

"Uh-why are they hugging?" Axel asked, pointing at the two.

Jesse smiled knowingly but didn't respond. Jesse had opened up the next room and had managed to solve the room.

Now, her, Rueben, Axel, and Olivia all stood near a random block of soft pink pastel wool, sitting on the minty-teal grass.

"Nothing-I'll let you guys know later. It's about Petra's...sickness."

"Right. Uh-you know he totally has a crush on her, though, right? We're all in confirmed agreement that he has it-you know, badly?" Axel asked no one in particular.

"Oh, and you don't?" Olivia joked.

Axel stayed quiet, rolling his eyes and folding his arms.

Jesse just smiled, waiting for the two to meet up with them. And, hopefully, this would lead to a peace of mind for Petra, and a cure for the Storm.

Oof

It's late

Imma go to bed

I hope you all enjoyed! Ahh-I love The Last Place You Look. What's your guy's favorite episode from Season 1? This one, for me personally, is pretty high up there (not including the three extra episodes.)

Uh-I'm so proud of this oneshot.

I'm actually kinda planning a years-later they-all-have-kids-now oneshot with adventures, a pirate ship, Jack the dad-joke expert, and fluff.

Anyways-bye!
