Chapter 3
Enid's Point of View
I trailed up the stairs to my room and paused when I heard my stomach growling. I didn't take any plane food. Still, I continued on the journey to my room. I landed on my bed with a thud. I closed my eyes but I knew I couldn't sleep anymore. I snapped my eyes open and scanned my plain white ceiling. I've always wanted to gaze at the stars. I sat up and walked to my unpacked suitcase and started to unpack. I started muttering curses under my breath when I found out that I didn't pack the winter jacket I bought with my hard-earned money. Jesus, someone please shoot me. Knowing my parents, they won't get me one just like they did last time. Trust me, it was absolutely splendid! The sarcasm.
As I continued to unpack, I smiled when I realised that I took my favourite hoodie and dress. At least, the hoodie would keep me warm. For a while. I closed my closet and walked back to my bed rubbing my stomach. It growled for 18 seconds to be precise. I groaned and resorted to the last measure. I pulled up my mattress and brought out a box in which I kept some money and other things I might need. Normally, I leave it all year and enjoy it in winter. So I took some of the money and grabbed my hoodie, then I went out for food. I knew a 24-hour diner around the place because sometimes, I snuck around when I wasn't supposed to.
I closed the door behind me and felt a cool breeze hit me directly in the face. My lips grew dry and I licked them and they got dry again. I pulled the hood up and walked to the diner. I rubbed my hands together because they were very cold. I pulled my curly hair behind my ear. I stood in front of the diner and I could already feel the warmth and the smell of coffee. I pushed the door open and took a seat at the back of the diner. I brought out my phone and connected to the Wifi and open Snapchat. I was sure my best friend would have spammed me immensely. I played all her snaps and I smiled at all of them. She took it with our friends. What? You thought I was a loner? Nope, I have a pretty average social life. I sent her a snap back.
I was about to send a reply to another friend when the waiter came by. He welcomed me and I returned the greeting. "Um, can I get a takeaway?" He nodded and I took the menu from him. "I'll be back to get your order." He said dismissively. I nodded at him. I scanned the menu, I ended up getting breakfast for diner. I ordered a bacon, cheese and onion omelette with a side of fries and a Pepsi. I sighed as I watched the waiter's retreating figure. I scanned the diner out of boredom and I saw a couple, a man and a group of teens who were making a lot of noise. I looked at them once more and suddenly I missed my friends. Someone said a joke and they all laughed. It turned out that I was staring at them, then, a boy that looked my age with the prettiest eyes I've ever seen caught my eye. I looked away immediately.
I didn't turn my neck to any direction since that encounter. I was grateful that my hood was up. The waiter delivered my food and I walked to the counter to pay. I didn't look at their table. I went straight to the counter, paid and started to leave but I heard something. I looked in that direction. It was him. I rolled my eyes internally. This is not a movie, quit the cliche' things. "I wouldn't go out if I were you." his voice was deep. I could barely hear him speaking. " Dressed in a hoodie and pantyhose isn't good for a blizzard." He gave me a once over. Feeling self-conscious, I smiled at him and walked right out the door. Every ounce of my body was screaming for me to go back to the warm diner. But no, I wanted to get away from him. As soon as possible.
I slammed the door behind me and rushed to the fireplace we never used. I took off my hoodie which had snow on it. He was right. There was nearly a blizzard. I was so cold, I felt like pouring hot water on my body. I didn't expect snow to fall so early. Well, I should have probably listened to him. Sigh. I looked at my food which had chunks of snow on it. Well, not literally but, it was cold already. I sighed as I put the food into the microwave and walked up to my room to take a long hot shower. And also, I made up a list of the things I needed. First thing, a winter jacket!
