Chapter 43: Dad
After a catastrophic lunch that seemed to be a civil war between Samael and Caleb, we went to the construction site to visit sir. I was very much aware of my absences in school now but there wasn't anything I could do. First, my parents decided to fight and eradicate each other because of money; second, I have witnessed the mighty (or just plain cruel) punishment of my Lord of those folks in church; third, I was 'almost' sexually violated by Edward; fourth, Edward almost murdered my beloved Mister Wall; fifth, Abel was killed by Michael and Cain took his revenge on the said killer then murdered himself after and lastly, I have consumed Caleb's lust cookies.
This whole mess started with those perverted magazines. I have this feeling that Samael was the one who did it.
Don't ask me why. If you have been hanging out with the man for too long, you'll blame all evil sorcery on him.
Just from seeing the evil glint in his eyes from every direction he placed his gaze into, I can tell that what Raphael had stated was true. Samael was a demon and if someone just threw more puzzle pieces at me, I can finally discover what Mister Wall was as well.
I wish he was some kind of a demonic unicorn. Mister Wall was just too sweet and kind to be a mere demon so combining his being with a unicorn comforted my thoughts.
When we stepped out from the limo, I mustered up the courage to thank the vampire driver and looked at him straight in the eyes. His eyes were pools of black, void of any joy. His skin was a deathly pale white.
Here I thought he was merely anemic when in truth he was the one sucking the blood out of people.
"Thank you for your hard work," I softly told him. He bowed at me, giving me a half smile. One of his fangs showed a glint of mischief.
I scooted closer to Samael who was too oblivious of my fear for their driver. Caleb was walking beside me as he took in the surroundings and sniffed the air.
"This is what you call fresh air! It's not really fresher than before but it's nice to have my lungs free of smoke from the crowded cities."
"Do you like traveling?" I asked Caleb.
I have noticed many eyes preying on the two men standing at each side of me like they were some helpless turkey waiting to be eaten.
They were nothing like helpless turkeys though.
When we entered the more crowded areas of the site where the booths for arcades, small coffee shops, and boutiques were, squeals erupted from girls of all ages. This site has really evolved. There were temporary establishments created for stores. Instead of tents, they have built small and concrete infrastructures. Teenage girls flocked around Caleb; the tall man grinned sheepishly.
"Oh my God, Caleb, you look hotter in person! I have been, like, your number one fan! Please marry me!" one girl screamed.
"Caleb can I get an autograph?! Caleb, will you give me a kiss?! Caleb please have sex with me, I am so freaking desperate now!"
I watched as the crowd grew larger. Caleb was signing on papers, bras, panties and magazines.
"Wow...I didn't know he was popular," I murmured in shock. Samael snorted.
"He's been really busy with his modeling and acting career," he explained. I looked at his bored facial features and then looked at Caleb's own.
Samael could also be a model if he wanted too. He could rival Caleb. "Have you ever thought of being a model?" I asked him which made him chuckle.
"Nope, standing there looking like a pornographic statue ain't my thing and I'm pretty busy."
I nodded. "Are you worried that Mister Wall will miss you?"
The man burst out in laughter and slapped me at the back. "Hell yea berry, that old man is gonna miss my sexy ass if I leave him but of course I know that you'll be enough distraction. Hell, if he ever dips his dick in you, I bet he will even forget that I'm the grim reaper of hell!"
I choked.
I was choking not just because of his perverse and bold language but from the fact that he just stated what his role was in hell.
"Wait, isn't the grim reaper a skeleton?" Samael was far from looking like a skeleton. He was all muscle.
He grinned. "Satan fired me for a century for being too annoying and so Spare Ribs here replaced me. He didn't do a great job hiding himself when he's gonna take a soul. His bones always end up falling one by one."
I held in a snicker but felt bad for Mister Bones. I hope he had a more appropriate job for his physique but they should have simply let him rest in peace.
"He has always been annoying but Satan's hellhounds love him," he added, which made my jaw drop and my eyes widen from that horrifying thought of a poor skeleton screaming for help.
No!!!
I covered my face with my palms and let the dark clouds loom over me.
"#BoneAppetite."
"Stop it!" I whined.
We left Caleb with his fangirls and went to Mister Wall's tent. The older man wasn't there and we had to go to the nearly finished arena to see if he was supervising there. The marble black walls stood out like an object of mass destruction in the middle of the day. There were red stones embellishing the walls.
How could they build this 250 meters of infrastructure in less than a year?
We stood in front of the entrance and watched the workers come and go. The men appeared to be lifeless? Their facial expressions were blank. Were they not being paid enough? Mister Wall didn't seem the kind of employer to lie about the price of salary.
Maybe they were overworked? Poor things. I must discuss this with sir once I get the courage to look him in the eyes again. Oh dear, how can I even be with him in the same room without melting into a puddle?
"Come on berry!"
I was supposed to follow Samael inside but a familiar voice called me.
"Pssst, Keetan!"
I turned around and found Kennedy waving at me. I walked towards the boy in puzzlement. "Kennedy, you didn't go to school?"
He beamed. "I wanted to see Dad's workplace."
I raised a brow at him. This was supposed to be school hours. I know, I was a hypocrite but at least I didn't skip classes. I just haven't attended for days because of...certain issues. "So you skipped class?"
He pouted cutely. "I've been grounded for a year, Keetan, a year. My parents usually ground me for 29 days every month and now they turned it to 30 days. Cut me some slack!"
I snickered; I couldn't help but find Samantha's and Derek's strictness exaggerated and humorous. They were austere with him.
Kennedy threw an arm over my shoulders and wiggled his eyebrows. "So...bulldog or butterfly?"
I stared at him in confusion. Why was he asking about my preference for animals and bugs now? "Bulldog...but a butterfly is nice too." Dogs were adorable and butterflies were harmless and beautiful beings. I just prefer dogs more.
Kennedy excitedly bounced from where he was standing. He cupped his mouth, looking around like he was searching for someone to agree with him. "Dude! That's awesome! So...how was the D? Is it a huge one?"
If my eyebrows can go narrower, they just did. "What D?"
Kennedy stared at me like I was the most idiotic person there was. It was a mixture of pity and annoyance. "Dick, boy, dick! I'm not a Satanist but you need Satan."
I slapped my forehead. I wasn't even surprised anymore. I should do my research for these positions so that I wouldn't get tricked into answering again. I doubt that I'll have the courage to search it up though.
"Anyway, let's go around town! I wanna spend some brotherly time with you!" He cheered and skipped around me. He couldn't stay still.
I smiled. It's not a bad idea. He hadn't been out for as long as I can remember. I have to keep a close eye on him. I jolted from my place when the boy grabbed my wrist tightly. His eyes were trained somewhere and I followed his gaze.
Oh, it was the mayor's son. I didn't know him much but from what I remembered, he was an engineer. People hoped for him to follow his dad's steps but it shocked everyone when he decided to take up college in the big city.
I wasn't disappointed. He could have turned out corrupt like his dad if he followed his footsteps. He was blonde and tall. He was single as well. I'd say he was handsome but...Mister Wall was the handsomest! No one can beat him! Mister Wall was kind, loving, caring, smart, handsome, warm, and the GREATEST!
Ehem...
Excuse me...
Kennedy's mouth opened and closed. His face was flushed; he was trembling from where he stood.
Oh no...
Don't tell me..
Kennedy turned to me with the same open-mouthed, love struck look.
"My world suddenly slowed down..." He described and made slow running motions to enact it. "Who is that daddy?!" He suddenly asked in a ready to tackle position. His legs were wide apart and his arms were curved from his sides.
"His name is Solomon," I told him.
Ken wiped off the drool from his mouth. "Salmon? What a delicious name...I wanna pour soy sauce all over him!" He frustratingly gritted out as he pulled his hair.
"It's Solomon and he's the mayor's son," I deadpanned. Oh Samantha, oh Derek, where are you guys? As much as I pitied Ken for being grounded everyday, he needed to be grounded again.
Kennedy gave out an image of a shocked puppy. "How can a Trump doppleganger with the hands of Swiper from Dora the Explorer have the kind of sperm to produce a piece of finely roasted beef drizzled with caramelized onion gravy?!"
I shrugged. True, Solomon was an Adonis but Mister Wall was his superior. Kennedy started pacing back and forth. I tapped him on the shoulder when I found Solomon approaching us with a friendly smile.
"Daddy alert," I joked.
I slapped my own mouth from having to say that.
Why did I just say that?!
Someone help me!
Kennedy froze and I had to turn him around. I feel like I was moving a statue from how stiff he was.
"Do you kids need anything?" He asked.
"Yes, a daddy!" Ken blurted out. He then pushed me away. "No, I mean, I need one. This twink already has one!"
Solomon gave a what-in-the-world look. "I ah...I don't think I'm ready to adopt kids."
Kennedy regained his confidence within a second. "Can we be friends?" He asked innocently.
I scoffed. He was anything but impeccable.
Solomon smiled. "Uh su-"
"With benefits!" Kennedy cheered. Blood drained from my body and I had to clamp his mouth shut with my hand. Solomon had a blush on his tanned face as he tried to think of some way to answer that. Oh God, what if he turned out to be another creature that was common in this town? And by creature I meant a homophobic baboon. What was he thinking? He should have thought that there was a 99.99% chance that this man may be one of those creatures.
I watched Solomon's expression go from confused to relaxed. He patted Kennedy's head and grinned. "My dad's a mayor and it would be so wrong of me to pose as a wrong model. And besides, this town is eating homophobic meatballs. You and I won't survive and I'd be in jail for being in a relationship with a minor but you're cute," he stated with a shake in his voice as if he was keeping himself from laughing. He winked at Ken and walked away leaving the said boy drooling.
Ken left no minute to go to waste as he chased Solomon while screaming: "Notice me daddy!"
I feel so embarrassed for him. Let me just find a rock to hide into.
"So much for brotherly bonding..." I grumbled. Kennedy left me for a man he barely knew.
I'm hurt.
Someone placed a hand on my shoulder, snapping me out from my upset state. I turned around and discovered Edward. Compared to last time, he seemed to be free from insanity now.
I was still mad at him though.
Don't punch him Keetan.
Do not cause a ruckus.
Remember that Mister Wall loves you and you will cuddle with him once you see him.
Calm...down.
"Hey...sorry. I...I just want to tell you something." He was jittery. He kept looking around.
"What is it?" I huffed.
I nibbled on my lip when I remembered him almost killing sir.
"First of all, I'm really sorry for what I did. I was...I didn't know what had gotten into me. It felt like my body was being controlled." He tried to sound as sincere as possible.
It was just frustrating that some people who seemed so genuine can turn out to be a complete nut-crack.
The greatest minds have the greatest wreckage. So if your mind wasn't in a jumble, you can't be a great mastermind.
I narrowed my gaze at him. "You're saying that you got possessed or something?" There was a possibility. With things the way they were, I don't doubt him. "I'm still angry but...I'll think it over."
Edward sighed and raked his fingers through his hair. He grew thinner. "Keetan, I still love you. I really do."
I swallowed my saliva and breathed out in an attempt to calm my raging heart. I don't like turning people down but I need to be honest with him to avoid any misunderstanding. "My answer is still the same Edward. I'm sorry. You have to move on."
I saw a flash of anger in his eyes but it slowly dissipated and was replaced with remorse. "Just...do me one last favor. If you do this, I'll leave you alone for as long as I live. I'm sure you'll like it and it's my way of making you happy." He looked at me with a hopeful expression.
Why do I have to be such a softhearted person?
I sighed in exasperation. I thought about it for a minute. As much as I hated him, if he was really possessed then he didn't deserve the cold treatment I was giving him. I followed Edward through the bushy pathway of the forest. I had my guard up and my eyes couldn't stay still as I looked around cautiously. Dried leaves made crunching noises beneath our shoes. Edward excitedly shouted "Come on!"
We ended up in a shabby old barn.
I hate barns...
I really do...
I took a step back; I was ready to dash out any moment if he turned out to be a psycho again. The arena was close by. I can make a run for it.
"Is this what you're gonna show me?" I questioned him.
Edward turned around. His expression was serious. I couldn't sense any aura of insanity from him. He looked like the ordinary Edward except he was exhausted yet still desperate.
Why did I trust people too much? "He...He asked me to take you to him. He told me that he just couldn't get the chance to meet you since that asshole Samael and Mister Hellion were always around you. Keetan...your real dad was looking for you all these years."
My mind and heart were caught in a cage of bewilderment, shock, and disbelief.
What?
What?
What?!
Then who was I living with all these years?!
"You're lying Edward. You can't lie about that. That's too cruel," I scolded him. My feet and hands were cold.
Edward took desperate steps forward and grabbed my shoulders. "Look Keetan, I'm doing this to save you from him. He's dangerous, Keetan! You need to get out of here!" he warned me. Calling him scared was an understatement. Was he referring to Mister Wall?
Of course he was. He was referring to that kind, loving, generous, caring, and handsome man who was my lover. I didn't care if he was a demon. I would have been dead by now if he was simply in this for the fun. He wouldn't be so gentle with me and he SHOULD have taken advantage of me when I was under the influence of the lust cookies.
If anything, what was dangerous for my general well-being was holy people and holy things.
"Go home Edward. Mister Wall isn't dangerous and if what you're saying is true...I don't care," I told him. I already have a family. It would be nice to know my true parents but what if they don't approve of my relationship with sir? We were fine as it was. I don't want to have homophobic, abusive, unloving and uncompassionate parents again.
I closed my eyes and turned away from him only to bump into a hard chest.
Now that spiked my heart rate up to 120.
I raised my head and stared up to green eyes similar to mine. Shivers rolled up and down my spine and my head began to hurt.
"Miniel...my fallen son."
