Chapter 14: Derek's boss
I always condemned the state of being drunk and being lustful. They were sins to our Lord. One should never get drunk on wine because it will lead to debauchery. One should be filled with spirit for it will bring gratification to our Lord.
I was a disgrace to my Father. I will never inherit his kingdom if I continue to fall for the evil pawns of Lucifer. I was thankful that my Father was merciful. I will repent for my sins and ask for his forgiveness once I have overcome this painful hangover.
What a painful experience this was. My head was throbbing as if my skull was being drilled. My throat and mouth were as dry as the Sahara desert. I kept looking at the ceiling and thinking of how I got into this state. I couldn't remember anything or how I got back into Kennedy's room. I just recalled going to Derek's workplace and staying at where Cain worked but after that, my memory was blank like the long and straight line in the heart monitor of a dead person.
I groaned out loud and grasped my poor aching head. I slowly sat up and felt my head being hammered further. There was a glass of water on the table beside me and some pills. I popped the two aspirins in my mouth before gulping down the whole glass of lukewarm water, quenching my thirst.
I groaned after drinking and set the glass down. What face will I show to Derek and Samantha after the trouble I have caused? I won't be surprised if they kicked me out.
"Keetan!
I jolted; my head snapped to the door. "Are you alright son? Does your head still hurt?"
I slipped out of bed but the dizziness only made me stumble and fall. Derek eased me up on my feet with his strong yet gentle grip.
"You've really taken Sam's punishment seriously," he chuckled.
"I'm sorry sir," I whimpered. I was disappointed in myself.
"It's alright. It was a good thing that my boss found you before you caused any more ruckus. He is a kind man. I'm sure you'll be delighted to meet him."
I looked up at Derek with my wincing face. "He isn't angry?"
Derek made a puzzled expression. "Why would he be angry? I never thought I'd see such a stern man smile like a boy receiving his birthday present when he was carrying you."
I blushed, diverting my gaze elsewhere. How embarrassing. Derek must be lying and covering up the truth that his boss hates me. He must have already lost his job again because I caused trouble for him but he was too nice to admit it.
"I'll ask Sam to make you some tea. Sit down for a while, we'll have guests for dinner."
Derek gently sat me back down and walked out of the room. I should shower so that I wouldn't smell like a drunken man sleeping on the side of the road because his wife locked the door on him.
After the world stopped spinning, I tried to balance myself and used the walls as support. I stripped off my clothes slowly when I reached the bathroom and twisted the knob of the shower, hearing the spray of water.
The cold water cascaded down my body and cooled off my heated temperature. I sighed in relief and closed my eyes, savoring the cool feeling.
I felt a bit better from showering. I soaped my body with the strawberry scented soap and shampooed my hair with the same sweet scent. I dried myself off and brushed my teeth to remove the stain and stench of alcohol.
I must remind myself to never trust Cain. That man was sly and will do anything to keep me off track with being a loyal servant. I laid out my red long-sleeved fitted shirt and black skinny jeans on my bed.
"O...Ouch!"
I fell forward on the mattress, my hands catching my fall. The piercing movement in my shoulder blades caused a cold sheathe of sweat to cover my forehead.
"Argh!"
I released heavy and strained breaths as the movements continued. My bones shifted. I couldn't scream for help because I was the greatest help anyone could find in this small town. Even doctors sometimes rely on me yet my powers couldn't work against this peculiar discomfort. I sighed when the feeling gradually lessened. I was left curled into a ball on the floor from all the rolling I was doing.
What was that? Bring me back my hangover if it meant that I didn't have to experience that again.
My hands were shaking. What was happening to me?
I prayed to my Lord. He must be punishing me and asking me to reach out to him already. After gathering my wits and anticipating further pain to occur for half an hour, I slipped into my clothes and put my feet in my comfy white rabbit slippers. As I jogged downstairs, I could already catch the scent of chicken. Kennedy was watching television in the living room with Derek and Sam was the one cooking.
I was still feeling light-headed but my condition was better than before. Cain must be laughing his bum off while telling my tale to Abel.
The doorbell rang. "I'll get it sir!"
Flinging the door open, I nearly fainted from the aura of the man standing before me and from the man himself. He was standing almost 7 feet tall. I had to raise my head from the vast expanse of muscle towards his perfectly sculpted face. My jaw dropped. I was smitten. Imaginary flowers bloomed from behind him. I stayed mute from the God-given angel trying to talk to me.
Oh my Lord.
Oh my Father.
Oh my God.
Why do you do this to me?
I stared at his stubbled face and his sharp nose. He had arctic blue eyes that made them appear to be glowing. He was neat and clean with his soldier's haircut. His face was a mixture of stern and gentle.
"Darling, your pants dropped," he informed me but I was too dazed to understand his words. His voice could make anyone swoon from its deepness.
My southern regions were twitching.
"Aren't you cold?" He asked worriedly yet with a slight twitch to his lips showing that he was trying to stop himself from smiling.
"What?" I questioned dumbly.
The man kneeled and that was when I saw a very familiar face behind him.
"Samael!" I gasped. I squeaked when I felt the man pull something up. It was only then when I realized that my pants betrayed me.
Heat spread all over my body. I was a stuttering mess.
"I- I- wha- no- I-"
"Ah, boss, you're here!" Derek greeted him.
"Derek, it's nice to be here. I brought my nephew with me. I hope you don't mind," he stated while he buttoned my pants and pulled my zipper up with his gentle and huge hands.
I never thought that such a man existed. Derek was also a tall man yet he merely reached past his shoulders. I stood just at the level of his muscled chest that was under a formal baby blue dress shirt and dark blue necktie.
"Keetan, this is my boss William Hellion," Derek introduced and pushed me a little to him. "Sir, this is Keetan. He lives here temporarily but I consider him as a son now."
I was relieved and grateful to hear that I wasn't considered as another mouth to feed or a freeloader.
"It's nice to see you sober. You may call me Mister Wall," he chuckled and offered his hand for a handshake. I gave him a confused look for such a name; nonetheless, I grasped his warm and comforting hand. I felt an explosion of butterflies in my stomach and an electrifying chill run up and down my spine. Mister Wall's lips slightly smirked. I blushed from how handsome he was.
He was inhumane.
"This is Samael, my nephew. He helps me with my business but he still goes to school."
"Nah, we already know each other. We are best buddies, right Keetan?" Samael asked and winked.
Mister Wall seemed amused. Derek invited them to come in. Mister Wall placed his hand at the dip of my back as we sauntered side by side. I bit my lip, avoiding to stare at the man. He was making me feel things that I disliked for my faith but loved for my mortal body.
It would be rude of me to not join them for dinner but could I survive this night? I sensed as if I would be doing something ridiculous if I were to be with Mister Wall any longer.
Sam popped out from the kitchen with a platter of roasted turkey in her hands. The side dishes were garlic and herb butter smashed potatoes and caesar salad.
"Hello gentlemen, good evening!" She chirped.
"Good evening ma'am," Mister Wall and Samael replied in unison. Samael was oddly behaving nicely but he still had that mischievous look on his face. I didn't know if I was merely paranoid but after Cain, I shouldn't trust people so easily.
We all sat with Derek and Samael at each end of the table. Sam and Kennedy were sitting across Mister Wall and I. Kennedy remained amazed at how tall the man beside me was.
"Let's pray first shall we?" Sam announced. Samael grunted in annoyance and Mister Wall gave him a look that said don't complain. I smiled victoriously when Samael huffed and took my and Kennedy's awaiting hand. Mister Wall engulfed my other hand in his.
I hope my palms don't sweat.
"Father, thank you for the blessings that you have bestowed upon us. We are grateful for your guidance and everlasting love. Please forgive us for all our many sins. Bless this food on our table and bless each and every one of us in this household and our visitors. In this we ask in the name of our savior, your son."
"Amen," we replied to Derek's prayer. Mister Wall sliced off a chicken leg, placing it on my plate. I blushed and returned his smile.
"Tha-thank you Sir."
"So then Mister Hellion, are you married?" Sam asked curiously.
"I'm sure a fine man like Mister Hellion would be," Derek commented.
Indeed...
I shouldn't feel so disappointed.
"No, I'm not," Mister Wall replied.
I stopped myself from smiling. I shouldn't be overjoyed upon hearing that!
I took a bite of the delicious chicken only to spit it out when Kennedy asked a ridiculous question that made Samael snicker.
"Are you gay then?"
"Kennedy!" Samantha panicked.
Mister Wall chuckled, drinking his juice before answering with: "I don't think labels are necessary. People can fall in love with anyone unexpectedly."
"Answer the question uncle. Don't give us that," Samael teased.
"By the way Samael, how old are you?" Derek changed the topic to prevent any awkwardness.
"I'm six thou-- I mean I'm 20. I stopped schooling for 2 years to help my uncle here."
"That's productive of you. Some people don't need education to be successful in life," Samantha stated, taking a bite of the croutons.
Silence ruled for a while before Kennedy spoke again. "So, let's forget about labels, what's your preference?" He asked. He was looking at both of us knowingly.
What was Kennedy thinking?!
"Kennedy, finish this salad!" Samantha ordered angrily.
"Aw man! It was just a question! We don't even discriminate!"
"But you might make Mister Hellion uncomfortable," Derek explained sternly.
Mister Wall smiled. "No worries, I don't feel a bit uneasy and to answer your question, I love a specific redhead."
My face reddened. I shouldn't assume. Keetan don't assume things! He may be describing a beautiful redheaded woman at work and not me. I should shave my hair to get over what he said.
"Just state the obvious genius," Samael sighed.
"I won't give any more details than that."
Kennedy seemed satisfied with his answer because he finally shut up; however, Samael was finally revealing his horns.
"So Keetan, what's your preference? Oh wait, I think I already know. Your pants said it all earlier. #Offerthatholybooty."
