MELANIE WAS ABRUPTLY AWOKEN FROM her dreams by a cold finger prodding gently against her cheek. At first she tried to ignore it, hoping it would cease its attempt to irritate her. However, it only became more persistent. Gently, it tapped her nose and she groaned into her pillow.

"What?" she grumbled, attempting to push the hand away. Instead, her fingers intertwined with another's and she smiled without opening her eyes. She knew who it was instantly.

"Well, good morning to you too!" he huffed, letting go of her hand and kicking his feet up on to the bed until the two of them were lying side by side. Melanie finally decided to open her eyes and she was met with the most wonderful sight: there he was, in his black clothing - a jumper this time, she noticed - with his tousled hair, cocky grin and pale blue eyes.

"Lucifer," Melanie acknowledged, nodding her head slightly.

He chuckled. "Cooper," he replied. "Are you gonna stay awake during my visit this time?"

"I was full of drugs, remember? It was the medicine that forced me to sleep. Sorry, Satan."

"It's alight. I've now seen you drugged and pissed out of your mind." He reached out and flicked a strand of hair out of her face. "You look simply ... dreadful, by the way."

"Thank you," she huffed before sitting upright. She winced ever so slightly at the faint pain in her chest, but she soon ignored it when a hand was placed carefully on her shoulder.

"Hey," Louis said. "You OK?"

"Yeah, just swell! You try sitting with a steering wheel crushing your ribs, and let me know if it all goes 'OK'?" she said before standing up fully. When she looked back over at him, she just smiled. "I just get sore every now and again."

"But it's not a lot, right?" Louis asked.

"Nah, it's not excruciating, but still a tad irritating."

Louis nodded and Melanie's smile only grew more mischievous.

"Guess what?" she asked. "You get to spend the whole day following me around school. It's my first day back..." she trailed off when noticing his attention was focused behind her, at the cupboard.

"What the hell is that?" he asked.

Melanie turned around only to burst out laughing. She had completely forgotten about the Satan T-shirt, and only when seeing the pure horror on his face, did she laugh even harder.

"It's a T-shirt with your name on it!" she told him.

"Hm," he mumbled, standing and making his way over to it. He pinched the fabric between his fingers and slowly smiled. "I always knew you'd end up worshipping me."

Melanie slapped his arm.

"It was for a joke!" she laughed. "I was tempted to get Michael one that said 'I love Satan' but I thought against it. He probably wouldn't find the humour in it."

"Ah, yes," Louis muttered in disinterest. "Michael."

Melanie rolled her eyes at his childishness. He was like a five year old that constantly refused to eat his vegetables - his mind just couldn't be changed because of Melanie's friend being named after his enemy.

"Grow up, Lucifer," Melanie told him and he just laughed and released the shirt, glancing over at Melanie as she pulled out her school uniform from a chest of drawers. His blue eyes followed her carefully around the room as she pulled out several items of clothing and she could feel his eyes on her. It made her smile again.

There was a moment of silence between the two of them. It reminded Melanie of when they had first met - the small moments of quiet that felt between them when they weren't exchanging rude or sassy comments about each other. Louis finally cleared his throat.

"I think it was good that you didn't get him a shirt like this," he said, capturing Melanie's attention.

"Why?"

"Well, a few reasons actually. One, because he hates me. Two, because I'm not particularly fond of him either. Three, because he's not worthy to have my name across his chest."

Melanie shouldn't have laughed, but she did. She was familiar enough with his insults. Yep, he's still the same, self-loving bastard I met two months ago, she thought as she pulled out a pair of tights.

"You're terrible."

"Magnificent."

"Mean."

"Tremendous, dear Melanie," he continued to retaliate. "I'm sure you can remember my awesomeness, no?"

"No," she simply said, laughing when noticing him rolling his eyes at her. He walked around her room slowly, observing the area with his piercing eyes as if it were the most fascinating thing in the world. Well, in the World of the Living. It didn't take long for his eyes to finally fall back on the bed, and his body followed suit until he was lying spread-eagled across her bed.

"So, how are you doing? Feeling better? Healing alright?" he asked, tilting his head back to look at her. She huffed and turned to face him, pulling up the hem of her T-shirt to show her stomach and chest. She wasn't afraid to show off her body, and it was harmless - she was only showing the damage of the car crash. She was thankful for putting on a sports bra the night before. She saw sympathy flash in Louis' eyes as he scanned over the bruises. Quickly, she tugged the top down and gestured to the bruise on her forehead.

"Yeah, that's how I'm feeling," she chuckled awkwardly. Louis let out a deep sigh and rolled onto his stomach to face her. He was frowning, Melanie noticed.

"You're a survivor," he told her with a smile. "And think of it like this: you have healed a hell of a lot faster than the average person in an accident like that. And you luckily got to meet me through it," he added with a cocky grin.

Melanie couldn't help but smile.

"What about you?" Melanie questioned as she slid her pyjama bottoms down her legs. She saw Louis' surprised expression and she just laughed and rolled her eyes. "What? Never seen a girl get changed before?"

"It's not that," he said as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "I'm just surprised how confident you are, as always." He grinned at her before scanning her body up and down.

"I'm not ashamed of my body. Thankfully. I don't know how many times I strip teased when drunk at parties."

"Have you stopped drinking, Melanie?"

"Mm-hm," she replied. "I sure as hell have! No way am I going through all of that shit again. It's fucking painful."

"I believe it would be," he said, nodding in understanding. "No drugs, either?"

"None apart from prescribed ones."

"That's my girl!" Louis chuckled.

"Your girl, huh?" Melanie teased as she pulled on her tights and skirt. Louis watched as she shuffled closer, a humorous glint in his eyes.

"Was my letter not clear, Cooper?" he questioned, tilting his head to the side. Melanie nodded absent-mindedly as she stopped beside the bed, looking down at him with a smile.

"It was very clear ... thank you. For the letter," she added.

Louis pushed himself up onto his knees until they were the same height, him on the bed and Melanie before him.

"You are very welcome," he murmured, his eyes trailing all over her face. Melanie knew how awful she must have looked having just rolled out of bed. Her hair was still in need of a brush, her teeth also. The bruise on her forehead was still visible, a faint scab running diagonally down to her right eyebrow. She was surprised at how close he was to her.

"It was very insightful," she whispered as his hands came up to trace shapes on her skin, his thumb brushing over her bottom lip. "Deep," she stammered, distracted by his captivating gaze.

"Deep, huh?" he asked, grinning wickedly. "Do you like it deep?"

Melanie shuddered at his innuendo, trying to think of a come-back in her confused trance. She grinned as she said, "I do, but only provided that there is an existing penis to do the job."

He slowly closed his eyes and exhaled, brows raised. He seemed to be silently counting to ten before he opened his eyes.

"I thought we had dropped this, Melanie," he said, his brows raised.

"I know what hasn't dropped, Lucifer," she shot back as he leaned closer, his breath on her face. Her own breathing was erratic and she closed her eyes, awaiting his lips to meet with hers like they had two months previously. It seemed like forever that she stood there waiting with him kneeling before her. She was disappointed when all she received was a small chuckle. He released her and stood up.

"You have morning breath," he stated, crinkling his nose. "I'm not kissing you when your breath smells that horrid."

"Screw you."

"In your dreams."

With a huff, Melanie picked up a pillow and hurled it at his head. It harmlessly bounced off of his back and fell to the floor with a muffled thump. He just looked over his shoulder with a grin and gestured for her to go and brush her teeth. She stomped out of the room to follow his instructions. Three minutes later, she returned with her teeth and hair brushed, a layer of mascara on her lashes.

"Get your arse over here," she demanded, eyeing The Devil who was standing, looking at her shelves, his eyes pausing on an over-flowing money jar. Her eyes lowered sadly.

"What happened to them, then?" Louis asked, looking back at her. Melanie knew who he was referring to and she cleared her throat quickly.

"Rachel turned the both of them in, and they're in jail now. Life sentence," Melanie said. She pointed to the jar of money. "Rachel's mum was horrified, and sent all of the money back that she had found in Rachel's room. She was crying, saying that she had no idea what her daughter and Kaleb were up to all that time."

"Good that they're locked up," Louis said without remorse. "Fuckers like that deserve to be punished."

"And you'd know all about punishment," Melanie laughed and he just winked at her before throwing her the school tie and white shirt hanging over the edge of the open drawer. She quickly changed while his attention was still on her belongings and she cursed under her breath when forgetting to put on a proper bra.

"So, why are you going back to school?" Louis asked. "You're still in pain."

"Not as much as before," Melanie told him, wrestling with a white bra under her shirt. She sighed in relief when she finally got it to sit right. "If it were still excruciating pain, then yes."

"Ah," Louis said. "I think today will be exciting. I don't think I've been in a school for the last thousand years."

"I can't believe you've even been in a school," Melanie said in astonishment. "Was this a normal school or maybe a religious school where you caused literal hell?"

Louis glared at her. "If I can't even lay a finger on a church, what makes you think I can get into a religious school?"

Melanie recalled his burning flesh as he laid his palm against the door of the church while she had still been stuck in The Beyond. It seemed like so long ago.

"No idea," she said with a shrug.

"So, school," Louis continued. "What does this all include? What subjects do you have?"

"Urgh, I can't even remember," Melanie said. "It's nearly the end of the year, so we'll just be finishing up things and filing all of our work most likely."

"Oh, how fun," Louis sarcastically said.

"And everyone will be preparing for the end of year dance, next month."

"A dance? You going?" Louis questioned.

Melanie snorted. "No. Do I look like a dancing person to you?"

"You did when you were drunk," Louis stated and she just let out a sigh.

"Drunk, Louis. Drunk," she reminded him, laughing.

"So, who is going to be there today? Anyone else I know besides ... Michael?" he cringed ever so slightly as he spoke.

"Nah," Melanie said. "Mikey is the only one you'll know."

"Hm," Louis said, walking over to her bed again. He straightened out the sheets and smiled up at her again. "Should be fun, then?"

"Yeah-" Melanie started. She didn't get to finish however, for the handle on her bedroom door rattled. She momentarily looked to Louis before the door was pushed open to reveal her brother standing with a look of confusion on his face.
