Chapter 3
"No supper." I heard Mrs Blatherwick mumble from behind the kitchen door. "Discipline, that's more like it." she continued, voice laced with authority. I couldn't help but allow an uneasy feeling to set in my stomach.
"Alright, we ready?" Simon whispered over his shoulder, all eight of us standing outside the kitchen door, nodding. I felt an unusual shrill of excitement build up in my chest along with the nerves, but I still wanted it gone. This was going to be bad. Very, very bad.
"Then release the mouse, Sebastian." Sebastian smiled before winding up a toy mouse and letting it go into Mrs Blatherwick's kitchen. She always hated rodents breaking into her kitchen, and Simon knew for a fact that this would annoy her.
"Eric, go position yourself in the dumbwaiter" I whispered to the ginger haired boy. Eric nodded, pushing his glasses up and running off with a frying pan clutched in his fingers.
"Are you ready?" Simon asked, turning to me.
"Mentally or physically?" I whispered in reply before we heard Mrs Blatherwick gasp.
"You ain't allowed in this kitchen, not now, not ever. I have it in writing" she said, whimpering.
Simon mocked her and I couldn't help but laugh at his great impression. We suddenly heard smashing inside the kitchen, it echoing along the walls as Mrs Blatherwick yelled courageously.
"Where are you? You mewling half-bakes! I'm ready for you!" That's when we heard the loud bang of the frying pan hitting someone's skull.
"That's our cue" Simon said as I pushed the door open.
Mrs Blatherwick laid on the wooden floor, knocked out cold with a red circle on her forehead where Eric had hit her. I personally thought it was quite brutal although I didn't protest, after all, I agreed to doing this. No backing out now.
Simon looked through the drawers until he found a cloth, using it as a gag as Tora tied Mrs Blatherwick's ankles. I grabbed a bit of leathery rope, tying her arms behind her back. We dragged her onto the kitchen table as the other children laughed evilly.
"Tora, why don't you make soup out of cook's socks?" Simon suggested as Tora looked back at him.
"No!" She snapped before she begun folding the cook's clothes.
"Fine, Lou, help me with this soup would ya?" He asked as I nodded slowly, walking over to him.
Chrissy jumped around the room, screaming "We got the cook!" And "This is so much fun!"
Eric was mixing some sort of strange, green goo as Sebastian hung from the metal chandelier. Despite my agreement to doing this, I felt very worried by Sebastian hanging from the roof.
Tora was still folding Mrs Blatherwick's socks and Lily built her own catapult out of some long, old pieces of wood. During all the mess baby Aggie sat sleeping on the counter in her little basket. How did she sleep through this ruckus?
I suddenly felt unsure of what I was doing. This was wrong, Mrs Brown would be so disappointed in me, although this wasn't the first time I went along with Simon's wicked schemes. I suddenly came up with an excuse.
"Simon, I need to get something. I'll be fast" I lied as I let go of the spoon and stood up.
"Ok, be straight back" I heard him call after me as I disappeared down the hall.
I walked down the halls quickly, dusting off my dress as I forced myself to get a grip. While I was in the main part of the house, a strange woman in black stood talking to Mr Brown. I couldn't help but stop and stare, transfixed by this mysterious women.
She was tall, much taller than me. She had two warts and a tooth peeking out over her bottom lip. My eyes snapped away from them when Mr Brown caught me.
"Good evening Mr Brown, Ma'am" I spoke politely, my feet slowly picking up once more.
"Good evening Luciana" Mr Brown said before I smiled, turning away and shuffling up the stairs quickly. I turned around once more before disappearing into the children and I's room.
I had a huge curiosity towards this woman dressed in black. Was she the new Nanny? I grabbed my book from my bed before heading back towards the kitchen, suddenly worried. The lady was nice, but looked strict beyond belief. Would she punish us?
"Oh look!" I heard Simon scream, my feet continuing. "The door's open and there's nobody there!" He then laughed, his voice youthful. I was in the hallway now, just making my way towards the door when I saw the strange women.
"I am here." She said "I am NannyMcPhee." I stood in my spot, unable to move with my mouth agape from shock.
"Oh Di-Did somebody speak?" There was a short silence.
"I didn't hear anything." Eric replied.
"That's because there's no one there." Sebastian announced, nearly screaming at the top of his lungs.
"Then you should listen carefully and try to hear this," The lady - Nanny McPhee started, "You are to stop what you are doing, put the kitchen to rights and go upstairs, to bed."
I was finally able to move again, adjusting myself in the hallway. "Did you hear what I said?" Nanny McPhee asked.
"I just had an idea!" Simon said and I could hear him smiling, "Why don't we play here in the kitchen all night long?" I ran into the room, speaking up for once and not being quiet. I ran past the new Nanny and to Simon.
"Simon, I don't think that's very smart," I kept my voice low at first, but I was overpowered by the other children responding with screams of joy. "Simon! You're taking this too far." I protested again.
"Lucy, who's side are you on?" Eric asked, throwing something into his experiment. I looked at him in disbelief, crossing my arms over my body.
"Yours but...but" I stuttered, unable to finish my sentence. Simon only smirked at me, seeming entertained by my flustered energy. No one stopped, leaving me stranded and watching war break loose.
I looked over to Nanny McPhee as she pulled out a crooked, wooden cane. She stomped it on the floor once, the noise echoing through the flooring beneath my feet. I reached out to grab the wooden spoon from Simon's clutches, panicking.
There was a short pause before everyone started doing their things at an uncontrollably rapid pace. My arms felt ablazed, throwing my body around. I tried to tear myself from the spoon, but my fingers wouldn't let go of it - it couldn't.
I was then frozen in my spot.
Everyone started screaming in pure terror
"What's happening?" I asked the children, the panic more evident. I tried to compose myself, but my arms hurt like hell.
"She's done something to us!" Eric screamed "Must be magic!"
"We got to stop!"
"Let's stop!"
"Stop!"
Suddenly, I looked over to Chrissy to find her loading objects into Lily's catapult, and Aggie was next in line to be shucked across the room.
"We need to stop!" Tora yelled.
"Well, stop if you want then." Simon snapped.
"We can't!" Lily cried.
"It's her fault!" Chrissy said, pointing a finger at Nanny McPhee.
"Someone do something!" I screamed out to no one in particular.
"Come on then, whoever you are." Simon shouted through all the chaos.
"Let's stop all this and go to bed!" Chrissy was now picking Aggie up and out of her bucket. The last thing Lily shot out of her catapult had landed straight into a boiling pot of water. If they didn't stop now, it could end extremely badly.
"Say please." Nanny McPhee said politely, voice calm and resonating.
"I never say please!" Simon hissed, scrunching up his face in disgust. I adored him, but sometimes his stubbornness was too persistent.
"Very well." She replied before turning towards the door.
"PLEASE!" We all begged, including Mrs Blatherwick who screamed through the cloth. Everyone was begging except Simon.
"WAIT!" I screamed at the top of my lungs, throat rasping slightly. Not once had I sounded so desperate. Nanny McPhee slowly turned around to meet our eyes.
"Just say it Simon." I pleaded, voice rid of its usual playfulness when I requested such things.
"Do it Simon, my experiments gonna blow!" Eric exclaimed, his hands covered in the slimy green goo.
"Chrissy! Put her back!" Lily cried as Chrissy had began lifting Aggie from her basket. She had balanced over to the catapult, her body forcing her to move.
"Oh for goodness sake! Please then." Simon yelled over everyone. My eyes widened in surprise by what I just heard. Simon had never said please in his life.
"Please Nanny McPhee." The woman ordered. Chrissy slowly began to lower Aggie into the launcher of the catapult.
"Chrissy don't!" Tora begged, folding the clothes quicker than I through possible.
"Say it!" Lily screamed as she took her stand by the catapult.
"Take Aggie out!" Eric snapped.
"Lily don't do it!" Tora cried.
"Bloody hell Simon!" I snapped, scared to death for Aggie's life. He frowned as he looked at me, noticing the fear filling my eyes.
"...Please Nanny McPhee" Simon spat out quietly, false kindness in his voice. I know it wasn't my place to snap at people, but it worked.
Nanny McPhee smiled wickedly at him as she raised the cane once again. There was a loud bang, it echoed underneath my feet once more, then there was a prickling noise of something exploding.
