Chapter 19

"WAIT! Aunt Adelaide, wait!" A voice called, causing Adelaide to turn around, Adelaide's cake covered face showing nothing but irritation. Simon was running out onto the path as all the guests turned to look at Simon. I stopped in my tracks abruptly turning around to see what was going on.

"You gave your word to our father that if he remarried before the month was up, then you'd carry on supporting us" He spoke, it sounded like a statement instead of a question.

"I did" Adelaide said simply, standing still on the path as I just wanted to know where this was going. My father had noticed I'd stopped, but instead of dragging me off with him, he stopped and let me be.

"So if he marries today, you'll have to keep your word, correct?" I finally caught on, grinning at Simon despite the tears that were on my cheek. "Oh, your wasting my time" Adelaide snapped at him before turning around.

"No! No" Simon laughed slightly "No I'm not. "He WILL marry today" Odd looks crossed everyone's cake-y faces.

"What?" Mr Brown asked confused.

"What?" Adelaide spoke, slightly angered at Simon.

"WHAT?!" The reception chorused together, looking at one another.

"Whath?" Aggie asked cutely, cake on the side of her chubby face.

"Who?" The priest asked, appearing from underneath a table. Lily ran forward to join Simon.

"He'll marry Evangeline" she exclaimed as Adelaide looked as confused as ever. Evangeline looked up, a bewildered look on her face.

"INCEST?!" Adelaide asked daze, looking as if she was about to faint.

"No, no Aunt Adelaide!" This was from Tora, who also moved forward. "Evangeline isn't our sister," Adelaide gasped "Not your sister?!"

"Not your sister?!"

"Of course she's not out sister!"

"Well, who is she then?" Adelaide asked slightly accusingly, still not believing a word they were saying. "...I'm his Scullery Maid" Evangeline spoke, staring slightly at Mr Brown lovingly. "WHAT?"

"Evangeline, do you love Papa?" Lily asked. She looked shocked, unsure of what to say. "Of course not! ...I know my place, that wouldn't be right, I mean.." She looked at Mr Brown "Yes"

Lily then ran over to Mr Brown "Papa, do you love Evangeline?" He froze "W-what are you saying? Don't be so improper, I could-could never..never happen..don't be so.....Yes" He finished as a huge grin appears on my face.

Mr Brown and Evangeline smile at each other, ignoring Adelaide as she fainted due to what was happening. I heard the loud bang of Nanny McPhee's staff which caused the sky to immediately cloud over as soft, white snowflakes begun to fall. It was quite a magical site.

"The ceremony isn't over yet." I bragged to my father as he watched me "Let's face it Luciana, if Simon liked you he would have said it by now." Slightly offended and taken back, I turn on my heel to face the wedding once more.

"I'm ashamed to call you my father. A promise is a promise, and you can't break it." I said confidently before stepping away from him. Simon was still standing on the pathway as I didn't realise I had broken into a run, my hair coming undone as I met up with him.

I looked at Simon for a second as he ginned at me, I smiled warmly back at him.

"What are you doing here?! I don't want you to get hurt by your father" He whispered in my ear.

"I know, but he promised me something and he can only let me leave until the ceremony's over" I finish my sentence with a slight laugh.

The wedding looked like a Winter Wonderland, everything was coated in the white snow and our outfits were now purely white. I stood beside all seven of the children as Mrs Blatherwick exclaimed

"Well I never, Snow?! Snow in August?!" She laughed, looking at the change of weather.

I giggled slightly, Simon glanced at me and not going to lie, he looked incredibly attractive. He started staring at me.

"What?" I asked him, looking down at my now white dress. It was beautiful, and my dirty blonde curls fell against it perfectly.

"Nothing, you're just....pretty. Well you've always been pretty but you look..." He said with his thick British accent. I blushed a crimson red, my heart speeding up slightly.

"Hey Eric, remember a few weeks ago when you were talking about how step-mothers are vile and cruel?" I looked over at the younger boy and his eyes widened. He ran off to go look for Evangeline as I giggled again.

"Oh, jolly good! If I may invite you all to join us once more.." The priest said, going back to the alter.

"Hallelujah" he muttered loudly. Evangeline rounded the corner with Nanny McPhee, still in her silky blue- now clean dress. Snow gathered like a tornado around Evangeline as she began to walk down the aisle. Mr Brown and the guests looked down at the aisle. A happy smile spread across my face, I knew true love when I saw it.

The smile didn't dare falter on Mr Brown's neither and father was sitting on the opposite side of the isle. I stood with the kids, who were all smiling happily. The whole venue had changed into something of a dream, something only magic could do.

Evangeline's dress changed to a beautiful wedding gown, the veil over her eyes and a bouquet in her hands. Everyone watched as Evangeline reached the end of the aisle, I hung by Simon's side, my cheeks hurting from grinning widely for so long.

Evangeline reached Mr Brown as Mrs Blatherwick was crying happily. Simon, Tora, Lily, Eric, Chrissy and Sebastian stood, waiting for their new mother to get wedded. Mr Brown and Evangeline hands tied together as Simon weaved his fingers into mine, entwining them.

"Dear beloved, we are gathered here to join together.."

The couple looked towards us, Evangeline saw Simon and I's fingers locked and smiled at me, I blushed pink before smiling back. The chimes of a bell rang faintly as their mother's old rattle fell from the sky. My heart was pounding so hard in my chest as I questioned what he was doing meant. Did he like me back, or was Simon just being nice?

"I now pronounce you Man and Wife, you may now kiss the bride." Cheers rang out as the newly-weds embraced in a loving kiss.

Simon's arm wraps around my waist as I look over to him, confused at first but the ghost of a smile on my face. I hoped my father was watching, because now I was able to live with the Brown's once more - if they let me back in.

Evangeline threw her bouquet high into the air, as everyone watched in anticipation. We all knew the theory, if you caught the bouquet you had to get married next. But I was taken aback when it landed in my small, pale hands.

I gasped at how beautiful the snow-white flowers were, but deep down knew I wouldn't be getting married anytime soon.

With a smug look l turned to face Simon. He pulled me into a short, sweet kiss, although we had never kissed anyone before, it wasn't too bad. For a second, I froze up before kissing back...or at least trying to. I didn't know if I was doing it right but it stirred up something deep within me, collecting a round of "awwww's" from the guests.

Later that evening when everyone had gone home, I sat with my legs over the edge of the huge window in the children's room. Father was talking to Mr Brown about how I was allowed to live here but I needed the newly-weds consent. All the kids were downstairs, sitting in the living room and discussing sibling things.

I felt someone's presence next to me and I turned my head to see Evangeline. She sat down next to me, gracefully but held onto the pane tightly. We sat there in silence for a while before I finally broke it.

"What did it feel like? To be marrying the person you love?" I whispered, my voice soft. She smiled to herself, causing me to smile with her. It must feel so much better in real life, rather than reading or writing about it.

"Wonderful, but it's not much different from falling in love." I nodded, but I didn't know where Simon and I stood. "We talked about you two" She continued, referring to Mr Brown and herself.

"We both believe that you two are old enough to handle yourselves, and that you'll be able to handle everything maturely; in other words smartly." I nodded my head, happy that they thought that. But did Simon want to make it official?

"Okay first of all...I doubt we'll start dating. We are young after all. And also, I don't necessarily know where we lie with each other. I don't even know if--" I'm cut off by a knock at the door. Abruptly, I turn to see Simon smiling timidly at the door. He'd been smiling a lot more recently, and it made me feel a lot better. Evangeline got up and left quickly, her place being replaced my Simon's.

"Your fathers letting you stay with us once again, what do you think changed his mind?"

"You." I hesitate slightly before answering, choosing my next words wisely. "He made a promise with me when I got the invitation for the wedding. He said that if you liked me back, I could stay here." I spoke quickly, all in one breathe as I apologised to Simon. I must have sounded like some crazy fool.

"I knew we're still young Lou and we might not know much but..." he trailed off, looking fed up before kissing me again. It was more meaningful, as there were no weddings, no priests, no audience. "Papa! Simon and Lucy are kissing again!" I heard Chrissie yell as her footsteps echoed down the stairs.

Everything disappeared into meaningless objects as Simon finally pulled out, and I felt as if my breath had been knocked out of my body. I felt like a crazed love fool, because I didn't think I could love a young boy so much at a young age.

But for once in my life, nothing mattered.
