He was looking at his recent video, uploaded on his laptop, called assembling music 41, he started scrawling down the comments till he came across someone called UFO, which had Yuho's face on the pics saying

Kai's Dad and grandfather were eating breakfast, his grandfather was eating some Clem meet in in his super when he noticed something that shouldn't be in it "we still got sand in it "he said to kai's father, teruo " sorry, I'll clean them better next time "he said "you've gotta stick a knife in em and Pry'em open" kais grandfather said

"I'll try soaking them longer" teruo said, picking up a piece of fish I need to need to, Just then Kai walked in, placing a school bag down and joining the two at the table "have you signed up for those extra courses yet? "His father asked " mm-hm" Time on board, picking up his chopsticks, using them to cut a piece of fish on his plate then eating "this summer is important for you. Entrance exams all around the corner. Make sure you study"

"And stay away from the water, } one holes in the wall and sleep through to our side "his grandfather grumbled "okay let's not start that again "his father suggested, while he ignored his dad and grandfathers Conversation, peeling the other half of the fish, removing the bones "I'm telling you, there is merfolk in rosewater Waters " after Kai finished, he got up, grabbing his bag and walking out, skipping down the stairway to the street, where he saw a beautiful blue haired girl about to walk past, good morning kanna" greeted, touching her attention "good morning! "She replied with a cheerful smile, making his heart skip a beat

As both started walking to school, they heard the PA go off "good morning... Solutions... Of hinashi..."The woman on the PA side, pausing between the words "starting it... 2 pm... Today... The third... Fish processing... Workshop... Will be held... At the community Centre... All visitors welcome" the words echoed repeatedly throughout the town

" ashimoto, kanna hey!" Kanna turned and saw yuho running towards them "how's it going? "She asked "fine" Kai replied plainly " good" kanna smiled " you need to cheer up" yuho chucked around Kai " heads up!" Kunio jumped from the railing on the stairs onto the ground "and you need to calm down " yuho giggled at him pointing " Morning superstar! Morning ocean blue "both girls shushed him, then continued walking " check it, Granny octopuses at it again " kunio said, looking towards the small Lighthouse with an old woman holding a spoon at the top looking at the ocean "don't make fun! She lost the love of her life to those very sees! Yuho scolded " And what is it gonna do? Spitting back? "Along the way shop started to open

Can I give you to a lift?" Yuho scoffed, pulling, along up the street who had her head turned ignoring the guy, who still continue to follow "no? That's cool how about a ride back? "He yelled out waving, then reversed back enough for the bus to fit "I just sent you a friend request okay?! He asked yelling

" hey! Ashimoto! Wait up!" Yuho called out as the three run up the street to catch up to him, panting "so, are you like, in a band? She asked as they caught up " no" Kai answered " well, you should be "she said doing a guitar strumming motion "we're one, and it so happens we need another member~" she sang

"You could totally work in some of those sick beats of yours" Kunio said "this is so crazy! Who knew you were some secret musical genius" he smiled "I always knew you were special, because you're not like the rest of the people around here " kanna didn't understand the rest of what she said, considering she spoke with some French

"maybe it's because you're from Tokyo or something" Kunio suggests, a small moment of silence before Kai said

"I can't play a instrument"

"Don't worry about it, that's not a problem, yuho, kanna and I have Bass, guitar and keyboard covered, we just don't have a drummer yet" Kunio said "but we wouldn't need one if we had your samples" he mumbled with his fist over his chest hoping he'd say yes to joining then turned back round walking up the road

"I'm so blown away that you're my man" Yuho said "to think that there is someone that talented in a boring town, course when you posted that video, I recognised your phone and put outside right away, why do you delete it? Was it because I outed who you were in the comments?" She asked curious, other moment of silence, the he spoke "Music is just a hobby for me" he said

"You're not fooling anybody, you love music don't lie" kanna said "Not really" Kai muttered "This is going to be so sick" Kunio cheered

"Just come to one practice before you decide, we rehearse in secret over on merfolk island" Yuho said, he gasped slightly and his eyes lit up, all four looked towards the shadow stone

"We like music and ninja's, training in secret on the far side of the shadow stone Kunio said

At school

The students were filling in a paper the teacher had given them "Alright times up, hand them in" he announced and started collecting

"What you pick?" Yuho asked the guys "Easy, I'm staying in hinashi" Kunio said "And you?" Yuho turns to Kai "I left it blank" he said which surprised the other three "Wha- your not plaiting on going to high school?" Kunio asked "There just aren't any I wanna go to" Kai states plainly " kanna?" Kunio asked " kinda the same thing, I can't think of any" she said, yuho squealed "That's so cool! Great idea!" She turned back to her paper

"Ur..really?" Kunio gave an ' are you kidding me look' "I can't erase I worth in pen!" She whined

"Come on ashimoto! We're gonna be here all day!

"Yes sir!" He grunted while trying to move the heavy barrel "Your back! Use your back!" The same one yelled "Getting out of going to sea doesn't mean getting out of hard work!" Kai tan as the workers laughed

As Kai walk up the stairs to his house, he open the mailbox and found a letter, another letter from his mother, he went back down the stairs into the boathouse

Clicking play on his computer, it started playing from his previous video, outside something swam below in the water, it came up slightly making a splash, catching kai's attention, he looked closer and saw it swimming below and gasped, he got up, slamming the laptop shut, running down the stairs, his feet and inch from the water, he saw the figure showing up to the arch in the wall, which was small enough for a small boat to fit

"They say that the merfolk first appeared in hinashi are they long ago. The shadows phone Cliff blocks the Sun and the over case bay makes ideal environment for both fish and the mermaid who dwell on merfolk island, but because there are so many Sunken ships that pose a navigational hazard, locals do you clear of that area, even the high quality Apollonian live in those waters

Kai lay on the ground reading the books in the upper room

Fearing the merfolk folk residence sealed the gaps in the shadow stone between the bay and the island, creating a wall, it's hinashi custom to hang dry Seargent husks painted to represent the Sun that these creatures are set to fear

The merfolk of hinashi are creatures known to pray on humans, and many passing ships have been lured to their doom by the sirens captivating songs

Kai looked towards from the window, where whatever was in the water earlier, where he was gonna go with the robbers to merfolk island 'We rehearse in secret over on merfolk Island' yuho's words ring in his head

The four sat in the boat as Kunio drove it towards the arch that lead to merfolk island, "Take your vest off you look like a dork" Kunio said

"Don't be mean, Kai can't swim besides I think it looks cool" Yuho comments

"Kai?" Kunio questioned which she just gave him a look, Kanna started blocked out their conversation "I didn't say I was joining your band" Kai stated

"Well why do you even come out here?" Kai continued staring up ahead "Hey maybe this will change your mind, our band name is Seiren!" As the boat sails through, onto the other side it reveals merfolk island, which Kai took a picture on his phone

Kunio was looking down at his which had a sonar app, showing wrecked ships below, but nothing swimming underneath them "It's always good to check the app, but if we stay in between the stone piles we won't get snag on any wreckage" he said

"What practised out here?" Kai asked "Cause Kunio hasn't told his folks he's in a band" kanna answered, the group finally made it to the island where they always parked the boat "Welcome to science supersecret musical layer!" Kunio's voice echoed

"This is the Seiren, a twin tailed mermaid, some legends say they also have wings" Kunio explained while the group stood under the arch way

The group walked along while talking "My grandpa made this amusement  park long time ago" Yuho says "And there's even a stage" the guys stared getting everything set up, including speakers, kanna stood behind while the others stood in front and Kai on the opposite side of the stage sitting "oh Kai said he brought a brand-new track" Kunio said

"Really? I knew you wanted to join the band!" Yuho called out to him "Just for today" he called back "Then get your butt over here!" He remain in the spot while the group got ready

"One! two!" Kunio started, Kai pushing a button on his laptop and the music began and Yuho singing

You and I~"Well that was going on, below the water something, Or someone heard, and pop their head out, The guy stopped playing

"How was that?" Yuho asked turning to Kunio "Only the best thing I've ever heard!" He cheered "Seriously with the drums we sound like a real bad now!" Then turned to Kai "What did ya think Kai?"

"There is no emotion behind the singing, and you're stranding to reach the high notes" he stated "Maybe it's because I am concentrating too hard and overthinking my performance" Yuho says

"And also whenever you start to sing, your bass playing falls behind" Kai adds "Just stop it" Yuho exclaimed which surprised him and the Other two "already! I get it okay! I suck!" She atormee off

"Yuho!" Kanna rushed after her "Oh nice, you just join the band and you're already breaking it up?" Kunio complained "But I didn't join" Kai states again

"More reason to keep quiet come on guys! We still have another song!" Kunio called out, as he started taking off his guitar, something or someone started singing, which surprised both boys, Kunio started playing in tune with it "Whoa! I'm digging this!" He continues playing in cynic with the singing while Kai's foot tapped to the music, he closing his laptop and putting the side, standing up, his feet started moving on their own towards where the singing was coming from

When he did, he saw something below on an old building that was in ruins, saving on water?! It's like he lost all control in his body, somehow ot started dancing too, after it was over, the strange thing jumped back into the ocean, while Kai stood stiff in the pose he ended in

After everything him along with Kunio started heading back to the boat since it was getting dark "That was so cool, you've had some vocals programmed?" He asked

"No"

"Well whatever it was it was catchy" Kunio said

"Okay"

"Maybe it was the most folk trying to Loras with their siren song" he said in a spooky voice "sailors~ follow my voice~follow it to your doom!" He sang before becoming creepy, They made it back and saw the two girls sitting in the boat, kanna was looking up at the sky while Yuho had her earbuds in her eyes listening to her favourite song "Hey sorry took so long" both turned bad acknowledge them, Yuho taking her earbuds out and turning away

"Let's just go home" she muttered "who is that singing anyway?" She asked, while Kunio turned to the two "So that seriously wasn't either of you?" Kanna shakes her head "Like I said it's probably one of those mermaids"

"You can apologise? Because that was mean" Yuho muttered "Sorry" he said "Gotcha! It doesn't really bother me we cool" she smiled goofy while rocking side to side, The boat started on his way back to the town "Ohh We have to do that long distance swimming tomorrow" Yuho whined "maybe we'll get lucky the school will burn down" she grumbled

"I wish I could help out, but I draw the line at arson" Kunio grinned, While the boat made its way back to the archway, kanna saw some light not to far away under the water "What's that?" This caught yuho's attention, they saw a jetski where the light was heading towards, the light turned out to be a headlight on a person, who carried a net full of giant clams, they then noticed the others boat

"Oh crap!" The JetSki stopped in front of them, surprising the teens and Kunio having no choice but to stop "Not so fast! You saw us didn't you?" One of the Guys smirked "We didn't see poaching!" Kanna elbowing him "I mean we didn't say anything!"  He corrected himself, the two  gave a lot to Kai who picked up his phone and started typing on it "What do you think you're doing?" The guy with the spear growled, knocking his phone into the water

"I'm going to report you to the fishing co-op you know that you can't harvest here!" Yuho glared, the just given my love until they realise she was "Oh it's yuho~" The driver smiled slightly in a flirty way "Oh yeah, of ebina seafoods, and she's got her friend to~" The other guy noticed a blue haired girl, she stared feeling really scared, then gasped when she was pulled behind someone, person being Kai which surprised her

"What's with you Huh?" Kai continues to glare at the two "You messed with the wrong guys!"The guy with the spear grunted when jabbing it and using it to knock one of the rocks on the pile into the water, it's splash causing a way which I was not the guys over, just then they both yelped when the JetSki was lifted into the air, but it was still on water, but they were still screaming "What the hell?!" While the other stay in shock, the other two guys yelled when the water disappeared below them and plummeted into the water, the guys  staring in shock

the two guys on the JetSki, actually in the water, holding onto the JetSki which was knocked over, gasping and panting

Kai noticed the same tail he saw on the creature in the water which disappeared

"Let's go! Hurry!" Yuho exclaimed pulling kanna down with her "Yea-okay!" Kunio exclaimed as he started up the boat again and headed back to the dock, As soon as they arrive, Kunio parked the boat back in its place "That was close" Kai took off his best and left it in the boat, kunio noticed a message on his phone, belonging to his parents "oh man I Gotta get home" he placed his Guate next to Yuho " please look after her" he said as he placed it down on the Treadmill next to her

"Are you ever going to tell your parents?" Yuho asked as he climbed Into the drivers seat " the soon to be priest of all sure I can't exactly be in a rock band, know what I'm saying?" He said turning back, You turn it on is gonna driving off "If only there was a live show or concert we could get up our first gig then I know we could make it big" Yuho mutterd

"Aww yeah! Fame and fortune here we come!" Kunio cheered, the four then stood outside yuho's place "And now that we have electric drums, we're unstoppable, ill create a group chat, make sure to add yourself"

"That's okay" Kai said "Come on" Kunio placed his hand in first then Yuho, and kanna "You too Kai" she smiled, he hesitated for a sec then did it, yuho slightly pushing hers to bump kanna's up and made both hands touch with a clapping sound, she looked proud while the two went red

"Okay, so I'm really curious here, so we Gotta keep it down" Kunio Warned "to the new and improved siren" he said "rock on rock on" the guys apart from Kai chanted their thing, Yuho went inside while the other three walked home

Kai's place

"I'm home" Kai said entering the house, then into the room where his grandfather was, making umbrellas "Welcome back" he greeted in his regular tone, not taking his eyes off of his work, Kai standing there for only a few seconds, then sitting down "Grandpa" he started "hmm?"

"err..Why'd you start making umbrellas?" He asked "The weather in hinashi Changes in a moments notice, always has, you can get by if you forget your lunch but not if you forget your umbrella, everyone needs umbrellas, these can even be parasails when it's nice out, when a man can't fish he's got to do something to keep his hands busy" His grandpa said "Grandpa, you seen one right? A mermaid? Like the ones in tales off hinashi?" His grandfathers stop cutting a peace of fabric he was working on

"You're saw one?" He asked

"Uh no.." Kai said rocking back and forth "Im sure they're still working around, they come to the side when the Suns not out" his grandpa explained "Is the reason why... You stop going out to see... Because you're afraid of them?" Once again stopping from cutting the fabric he was working on, and awkward silence filled the room, before the door of his house opened and his father's voice calling out "I'm home"

The three sat around the table, Kai's dad handing him his bowl of rice "so I heard you went to merfolk Island" Kai's grandfather flinched, while drinking is miso soup, regardless of his father continued "I also heard you're joining yuhos band" not even flicking or other, Kai's grandfather smacking his fist on the table grumbling

"fishing companies and umbrella making all the only viable industries in this town, even our boat rental business is going to end with grampa, you want to be able to get a good job if you don't spend enough time studying" Kai looked at his fathers badge, stood back up, clenching his fists "Kai?" And left the room marching up the stairs "Kai! Where are you?! Dinner is not over!" His dad yelled out

"And you shouldn't be practising near the water, I told you they're attracted to music!" Kai's grandpa yelled "This one won't open up" he muttered Removing a shell from his dinner

Kanna's house

Kanna was sitting on her bedroom floor, processing what went down just a few minutes ago, just then she received a text from Yuho

' he definitely likes you, remember how he tried to protect you!' She immediately blushed, but would he really? Her mind then wandered to the memory of his phone falling into the water

She marched down to the boat house, kicking off her slippers and placing her feet in the water

" I wish to become a mermaid" she says, the light engulfed her lower legs and charged them to a tail, she jumped in and swam to where she figured the phone had ended up

" kanna!" She yelped when something, actually someone engulfed her in a hug, someone she knew all too well " Lu!" She gasped " dont do that to me" she giggled " hey do you you perhaps know where my friends phone went, it's about this big, like a rectangle" she said gesturing with her hands, Lu nods and gestures her to follow, which she does, following Lu deep under the water, she noticed a ship wreck and saw Kai's phone on the deck, she swines down and picks its up

" alright how time to return it, but how without him recognising me" she wondered, she then remembered something she left in the house and swam back with Lu following

Back on the surface

Kai was on the kitchen, he opened the fridge and while he was chewing on something, and pulled something out to take with him, He was then in his family's boat house, Looking through the shelf's, then saw something he needed, the drum pad

As he pulled it out, various types of power out, he looked down and noticed they had his dad's name on them, with songs listed on them, one saying teruo's band "Dad had his own band?" Kai mumbles in surprised, he took his stuff up  stairs along with his snack and the drum pad

He started playing the music, pushing buttons on the drum pad

He heard the small splashes below and looked, but saw nothing, he then flew one of the chips from his pack, before it hit water, something poked up and caught it, diving down, he gasped and threw another, this time much higher, the creature jumped up and caught it, diving back down,

He looked around back saw nothing, then gasped when the creature appeared right in front of him, with another one, wearing a mask and hood hiding their hair

in water! Lu had dragged up the water along with the other person, who was trying to swim out, b it couldn't thanks to her friend Kai just sat there in shock, not knowing what he was looking at, he then yelped when Lu swam in the window

Bringing the water with her and the other person, he yelped trying to run, the water started picking things, up, Kai having to toss the drum pad since he caught caught in the water, he felt something pushing him to the stairs, it was the other person with the mask

He poked his head out gasped and fell down the stairs, yelped crawling away, the other person tried to stop Lu but she was relentless, she stopped just about him

"What. Are you?" As Kai crawls back, again accidentally pushed the button on the boombox, starting the music on again, Lu smile's brightly and Kai watched as her tail turned to legs, what was confused with the other girls didn't, she then pop your head out I was about to say, both gasped but Kai covered her mouth "Shh!" In his house, his grandpa thought he heard  something but, it was muffled by the wind chimes, so he went back to what he was doing

"Are you here... To eat me?" Lu shook her head along With the stranger "Wait... You're not? And you guys can understand what I'm saying?" Lu noises her head even faster, Kai removed His hand "Lu not eat! ka-" the girl in the water covered her mouth, stopping her from saying her name and also because she was being too loud

Kai's Grandpa thought he something again, But thanks for the windchimes it was muffled  again

"Lu?" Kai questioned, The girl in the water uncovered the other girls mouth

"Lu" she repeated pointing at herself, indicating that it was her name, she then points at him "Who me?" He asked "Who me?" Lu repeated "No not who me Kai" Kai says "No not who me Kai?" Lu repeated while the stranger held her mouth laughing

"No, just Kai" he put his hand up before she could speak "Kai....Kai" he said, then lowered his hand "Kai!Kai!Kai!Kai!Kai!Kai!" While Lu repeated his name his eyes wandered to the boom box, pressing the button and making the music play, just as Lu took a breath to sing, he covered her mouth and watched her tail turn to legs, then watch as he turned off the music again

Watching as her tail returned, The other girl clear throat, You looked over the head saw her holding his phone while her head was turned, She passed it to him through the water, small drops for the space but he took the phone back examining it surprised

"It's my cell phone" Kai muttered surprised, Lu nodded and the girl was about to follow her, when she flinched at the Contact around her wrist, Kai had pushed his hand though the water and grabbed her wrist before she could leave, in result, Lu carried the water with her, Resulting in him falling over and the so-called mermaid falling to his side

"Kanna is that really you?" She flinched when she heard her name being muttered " huh?" She said, trying to act dumb " I know it's you, you don't have to pretend" she stared in shock

" your...a mermaid" he asked, she turned her head away " half..." she mutters, Removing the mask, she knew her dad wasn't gonna be happy, and plus she was gonna loose a Friend " that's cool" she turned around shocked " what?"

" was it you or was it your friend who lived at the jetski earlier?" He asked " Lu did it... she was worried about us getting hurt...And if you're asking no, mermaids don't eat people, The stories people wrote are not real they don't have proper evidence" she muttered "how did you know it was me?" She asked " your hair is sticking out" she flinched and squeaked " gah!" She stuffed her hair back in the hood, While he's was trying to hold back His laugh

" if you're mad at me fine, I'm sorry...I'll leave" but before she could his hand looped into hers holding her gentle grip, making her stiffen

" I was just gonna say Thank you" her eyes widened " and...the fact that you can turn into one and breath under water...is cool" he turned his head to hide his blush, small smile made it on her face " thank you kai!" She launched herself at him " woah!" He yelped as they both fell " err...whoops...sorry..." she blushed helping him back up, who also had a Blau, they then heard a splashing sound belonging to lu,

"Thanks lu" kanna waved, she squeaked and flipped back into the water, and swam home But this time, it was different

Kai watched as kanna's legs reappeared when she used the necklace " so with that necklace, you can transform form Human to mermaid?" He asked looking at the the shell necklace in her hand " yeah, it's kinda hard to explain" kanna laughed awkwardly, while he had a small smile " i think we have time" her eyes widened, but she smiled and nodded
