It was all over. Now was the time for me to get the happy ending I've always wished for, but had always seemed too far out of reach. I still had a long journey ahead of me. One in which I had to learn to accept myself and learn from past mistakes. I had always known that this was essential if I wanted to find happiness, but I had never before found the motivation or energy to fight. What was the point anyways? I had no strong, steady foundation I could build on. But now I do, and it will change my life entirely.

It had not been long after we started talking in our quarters that we ended up in bed, below the warm covers, naked.

It was the middle of the day but Gellert had decided not to be busy with the Greater Good.

He was gently stroking my arms and made eye-contact as we lay facing each other.

At that point, I was suddenly overwhelmed with so much emotion that I could feel a tear roll down my face before I realized it.

He was alarmed, I could see. Yet he didn't say anything.

It wasn't long before a soft smile came to my lips and I whispered, ''I love you.'' and pressed a gentle kiss on his lips.

Sighing he retreated and returned the smile. ''You've been through a lot. And I can imagine how lonely you've felt, I've been there. But I want you to know that I'm here for you at all times. Because I love you too,'' he said as he intertwined our fingers and placed a kiss on my knuckles.

''There's never been anyone in my entire life that has brought so much change to my life and to me. I realize now that I don't want to lose you and never want to let you go. I want to make the most of my life, and for that I need you.''

He took a deep breath and was about to continue when there was a nervous rapping on the door. ''Sir!''

It sounded like the nurse. She was out of breath but seemed very excited. ''The boy is awake,'' she said as silence settled.

I glanced at the door with hopeful eyes and smiled as I quickly got up and started scanning the room for my clothes.

I couldn't help but notice that Gellert had not yet made any move to get dressed. ''Are you coming?'' I asked as excitement was fiercely pulsing through my veins.

He seemed to snap out of his trance and got out of bed.

I couldn't help but think that something wasn't right with him. But for now, I decided to let it rest until after I had seen and spoken to Tom. This was my moment to make it right. To explain my actions.

He did not seem half as eager as me to see him. After a few moments of standing around, waiting for him he turned to me and told me to go and that he would catch up when he was dressed.

I nodded gratefully as I left the room and, at a firm pace, made my way to the infirmary.

Gellert Grindelwald's P.O.V (third person)

His perfect moment with you had just been interrupted. It had taken him a long time to build up the courage to even start the conversation. Couldn't Tom have woken up just a little later?

Sighing, he opened the drawer of the bedside table and retrieved a small box.

Is this right? Isn't it stupid to show my vulnerabilities? Show that I, too have feelings like any other human on this earth? Bind me to this other human being?

Gazing down at the box in his hands, he slowly lifted the lid to reveal a ring. The metal had been bent and formed to look like rose petals and leaves, a black diamond resting between the delicate metal. And when examined carefully, you could notice the symbol of the deathly hallows hidden inside the diamond.

Closing his eyes and wishing the nerves away, he got up and quickly dressed up as he slid the box into his pocket. This was going to be the day and it would be special.

Now that the moment was drawing nearer and nearer I could feel the nerves starting to become a knot in my stomach. Maybe I wasn't ready for this yet?

I subconsciously slowed my pace as I was sunken in thoughts once again. ''(Y/N)? I thought you'd be there by now,'' Gellert said as he approached me.

Turning to him, I smiled and nodded. ''I should be, but I'm nervous. What if he doesn't forgive me?''

He shook his head and embraced me. ''That is a possibility, but if he doesn't it's probably just because he needs time. And maybe he won't. Maybe he's already forgiven you. We should deal with it when the time comes. It will do us no good to trouble ourselves about something that might not even happen.''

Taking a deep breath, I pull back and nod confidently. Now was the time.

It wasn't a long distance to the infirmary and soon we stood in front of the doors.

Heaving a sigh, I glanced at Gellert. ''Do you mind waiting outside for a bit? I need to talk to him,'' I ask uncertainly.

He nods with a smile. ''Of course, my love.''

I return the smile and enter the infirmary where my traumatized, frozen and hurt brother was lying.

I recognized his form immediately. He was less pale, but his eyes were closed.

Slowly nearing the bed, trying to hold my breath even as I felt the nerves kicking in again.

Once there, I seated myself in the chair beside the bed and hesitantly took his hand. It was still cold, but not frozen. I stroked his cheek and gently called his name in an effort to try and wake him.

It didn't take long when his eyes fluttered open and he turned to me disoriented. I smiled at him as he was trying to figure things out. And it was clear when he had because he made an effort to move away from me.

This made my eyes fill with tears, but nevertheless, I maintained my smile. ''It's OK, Tom. It's alright. You're safe.''

Our gazes locked, and it seemed to take forever before his mouth was twitching, trying to speak.

''(Y/N)?''

I nod with a smile as a tear rolled down my cheek. ''You're safe, Tom. You're home,'' I say as I reach to stroke his cheek again.

''Y-you are m-my s-sister...''

His eyes were filled with hurt and tears, just like mine had done all those years. ''Yes, Tom. I should've told you sooner, but I didn't know how.''

I knew there was nothing I could say that would make up for keeping this from him. ''I'm sorry.''

His own eyes started to overflow with tears. He flung his arms around my neck and hugged me close. ''Never keep something like that from me again,'' he said sobbing.

I accepted the embrace and felt my own emotions overflowing. ''Don't worry.''

At that moment the doors opened and Grindelwald entered the room. At the sight of Tom sitting upright, he smiled. ''Hey, kid. It's good to see you conscious again,'' he said with a grin.

The next half an hour we spent talking, trying to make up for all the lost time. After that, Gellert told us he still had something to take care of, so he left. The rest of the day mostly existed of laughing, crying and hugging with my little brother.

When the sun was nearing the horizon, I was about to say goodbye to Tom when the infirmary doors opened and Gellert entered. ''(Y/N), will you come with me please?'' he asked seriously, his face stern.

I was confused but felt uncertain about what might be wrong. I immediately got up, quickly said goodbye to Tom and followed him out of the infirmary.

Once the doors had closed, he was grinning and I was even more confused. ''I knew that would get your attention.''

When I realized that he was just trying to get my attention, I playfully slapped his chest as I told him to never do that again, followed by a grin of my own.

''But what do you want my attention for?'' I ask softly as I realized he must be wanting something from me.

''All I ask you to do is to come with me,'' he said as he held out his hand. ''We're going somewhere special.''

As we disapparated, it didn't take long before the salty ocean smell kicked in and I immediately knew where we were.

''Why did you take me here?'' I ask softly, as he led me to 'our' bench.

''I just thought it was an appropriate location since this is where we met and had our first date. Seems like this is the place where all our next steps are taken,'' he says with a smile.

We sat down on the bench and sat in a moment of silence before he turned to me and took my hands. ''(Y/N). In the last year, I have almost lost you so many times, that I have realized I can't lose you, not now, not ever. Time is a scarce thing, and it is not eternal. I do not want to waste anymore. Therefore,'' he continued, slowly getting up in front of me. ''I kneel down, on one knee, and ask you with all my heart and hope,'' he said, reaching into his pocket and retrieving the small black box and opening it, for me to see what was inside. ''will you be my wife?''

His nerves were obvious, but the question was overwhelming. I needed a few seconds to comprehend what had just happened before I smiled widely and cupped his cheeks. ''Of course, I will marry you!'' I exclaimed as I watched his expression soften and his lips twitch into a smile.

He carefully took my hand and placed the ring on my finger. ''I love you,'' he said softly, as he cupped my cheek and kissed me deeply.

After a few more moments, we were settled on the bench, my head resting on his shoulder. ''I love you, too,'' I said, as I took his hand and we watched the sun sink beneath the horizon.

And at that moment, I knew that I would be able to figure everything out. Everything that would happen. Everything that the universe would be throwing at me. We would figure it all out. Nothing could bring me back to the life I led before I met Gellert Grindelwald.
