TRAVIS'S POV
<~EDITED~>
"So I met this guy who was trying to hit on me.........-" I tuned out Judy's voice.
I couldn't forget what happened in Mona's office three days ago. It was all I could think about for the most part. Maybe I should have made a different approach.
(Flashback)
"Travis" my name slipped from her parted lips like silk.
I loved it.
Coming from her it was extra special.
She cleared her throat awkwardly while standing up from her desk chair. She looked even more beautiful than the last time I saw her. She was glowing. Literally.
"Good morning Mr Travis. How can I help you" I hate it when she sounds so professional but it was inevitable.
She certainly didn't sound professional that night when she was begging for more, clawing at my back, with her legs around my waist.
I smirked,walking further towards her.
"I just need to speak to you" she was taken aback but quickly brushed it aside. Her face completely blank again.
"About what?" She sounded like she knew what I wanted to talk about but she wanted to push it back as long as she could.
"About that night" I stared into her dark brown eyes, placing my hands on her desk and leaning my face closer to hers.
Her eyes weren't on mine anymore but my arms. I held in my chuckle.
I think I let it slip cause her eyes snapped to mine in a nanosecond. She moved away from me, walking out from behind her desk closer towards me.
"I'm sorry Mr Travis. But I'm really busy right now"she sounded almost breathless and She cleared her throat to cover it up.
"Mona we're gonna have to talk about it sooner or later" I said truthfully, removing my hands from the desk.
"No we don't. We can just think of it as a one night stand" she shrugged nonchalantly.
I frowned.
It was more than just a one night stand to me but obviously isn't to her.
"I can't" I said making her eyes go wide.
I chuckled. She looked adorable.
"What?" She asked mortified.
"I can't think of it as a one night stand. I can't stop thinking about that night....I can't stop thinking about you " I stood in front of her and cuffed her chin, bringing my face closer to hers.
"I can't" my voice was barely a whisper.
"Why can't you?" I was surprised. Not because of her question but because of the emotion in it.
She looked genuinely confused as her question.
"I l-- I don't know" I decided against telling her my feelings. I didn't want to scare her off. She seemed spooked enough already.
"I just can't. Ok?" I sighed releasing her chin and ran my hands through my hair.
We didn't break eye contact. I moved closer to her. Seeing she didn't step back I tried my luck again. She didn't pull away.
Good.
"I don't want that night to be just a one night stand Mona." I explained.
She looked away.
"What else was it?. We were both drunk. Well I was, I'm not so sure about you." She quipped, her voice growing cold.
"The most passionate night I ever had" I said huskily. It was true.
Silence ensued. Still she won't look at me.
"Please leave" she whispered after a little while of the silence almost drowning us.
"What?" I asked lamely, staring at her tightly clenched fists by her side.
"I want you to leave" she said louder, her voice thick with rage.
"I'm sorry Mona but I can't hide the truth any longer--" she cut me off.
"Leave!" I was stunned at her sudden outburst.
When she finally looked at me. I saw the promise of tears in her eyes.My heart broke. I didn't mean to make her cry.
"Mona I'm--".
"No leave!" She screams.
I had no choice but to succumb to her wish.
I left without another word. I had sent her text before I flew back to New York the next day feeling like shit when she left me on read.
(End of flashback)
"Travis!" I was pulled out of my thoughts by her sharp assertive voice.
I turned to Elaine. She had a curious but worried look on her small face, while Judy just had a bored look on her snarky face.
"Are you ok? I've been calling your name for a whole minute now?" She asked with concern.
"Im fine just stressed" I gave her a tight lipped smile before standing up from the table we sat at for our lunch that Judy, Elaine's best friend crashed.
I was supposed to break up with her today but I can't now. Since someone (Judy) couldn't wait for their scheduled meeting later today.
"I'm going home now. I'll catch up with you later" I informed.
"See you later babe" she kissed my cheek before back to whatever Judy and her were talking about.
I left soon after. A couple of hours later my girlfriend waltzed into my bedroom.
"Hey baby" Elaine kissed my cheek, before settling on my bed with me.
I blew out a breath.
"I wanna...tell you something" I said slowly.
"Ok. But first. You have got to see the pics I took in Beijing" she clipped bringing out her phone to show me.
I rolled my eyes. There are more important things than the pics she took from the three weeks "vacation" she had in Beijing. She never listens to me. At least not anymore.
"No Elaine I have to tell you now" I got up from the bed.
She looked confused for a while( probably cause I didn't call her Elly) before shrugging and putting her phone away.
"Ok fine tell me." She sighed blinking her eyes at me.
"Don't take this the wrong way."--who wouldn't take a breakup the wrong way??--"I don't think it's working out" I bit my lip expecting her reaction.
"Don't think what's working out?" She slowly slid off the bed.
I cleared my throat.
"This"--I gestured between us--" isn't working out"
"What's that supposed to mean?" She says before gasping loudly "are you breaking up with me?!" She yelled.
"Yes Elaine"I nodded flatly.
"Wha--why--I don't understand." She stuttered pacing around the room.
"You can't do this to me Travis!" She stopped her pacing to yell,so many emotions swirled on her face, the ones I could detect were anger, disappointment and hurt.
"We've been together for 7 years. We were supposed to get married and have kids and live happily ever after!" She ranted like she's lost her to mind.
I walked up to her and gripped her shoulders.
"Elaine--"
"Why? Why do you wanna break up with me?!" She shrugged off my hold.
"Is it a girl?!" She asked/yelled at me.
"Tell me!" she fisted my shirt and screamed in my face again.
"....yes. yes it's a girl" I said truthfully, staring right into her teary eyes.
"What?" Her eyes widened as she let my shirt go stepping away from me with tears streaming down her face.
