Excerpts from Debby's Diary:

"It's the weekend and everything seems just fine, I've got my time off the beach and so does every one else, the whole town is buzzing about the party, I didn't even realize how small this place was, back at home it was small and everybody was in everybody's business and it's almost the same here just with a more modern twist, it's a small community here but there's like classes of people and stratas you don't mingle with and so not everybody's business is known by everybody, just a group of people and it really doesn't feel bad to be left out of stuff here or so I think, this party seems like the highlight of the entire summer cause everybody is just about ready to turn up.

I am nervous as hell, I just want to live a little, be the kind of girl my sister is and have fun like everyone else, I never want to be the same person I was back at Belmonth, I want to shine, participate in everything I find interest in, be known for what I can do, I never want to sit at the back and have to hide away for fear of being poked at, I actually want to be seen and I'd be damned if I hide away this summer."

"Hey Debby, seeing you later at the party?" My sister Dorothy asks, she seems extra cheerful this morning and I'm surprised she's extending that cheerfulness my way, "uh yeah I guess so" I reply while trying not to spill milk, I'm trying to mix some more milk in my cereal.

"Cool, I'm heading out with the gang to get everything all set up, catch you later and please whatever you do today, try not to embarrass yourself" she says this calmly like it's a normal thing or like she knows me to have a streak of embarrassing moments and she doesn't so I don't know where that even came from "why would you think that?" I ask "oh you know, with you being so fat and all, it would be hard to pick out an outfit that you'd stun in and then you know with fat people being all too clumsy, I don't know Debs, I just get this feeling that you're an embarrassment waiting to happen" she ends her analysis with a chuckle.

I really can't believe that we are supposed to be twins, who ever says such hurtful things to their own sibling, before I have a chance to reply not like I had anything in mind to say, she calls out after applying her gloss like she said nothing of consequence "ciao Debs, got to go" and she's out the door like we just had a very nice and friendly conversation, I don't even notice when the first streak of hot tears flow, I just raise my hand to wipe it off, so much for thinking I'd have a better start here than back at Belmonth, with my own sister against me, I just might as well give up already.

Not being able to eat anymore, I race back upstairs to my room, flinging myself onto my bed and crying to sleep, I really wish I could just have it easy, why did I have to be the fat and uglier twin.

Waking up, I actually feel lighter and extremely hungry, I grab my phone and head downstairs, of course I'm alone in the house since dad isn't in. shit, I missed like 6 calls from Lilian. My stomach grumbles in corresponding annoyance, I definitely need to eat, funny how I find my cereal from the morning right where I left it which means no one came in to clean, I am too hungry to bother as I dial Lilian's line back and actually just start slurping up my overly soggy cereal.

"Hey L, sorry I was sleeping" Lilian doesn't sound too pleased to hear my apology "yooo, I'd been trying to reach you all day, sleeping? When we have the party of the summer? Sleeping really? Bro that's the lamest excuse I've heard all year" "I'm for real, I slept off and I think my phone was on DND so I didn't notice it ring at all" "whatever girl, ready?" She asks.

"I just woke up L, you know what why don't you come over and maybe help me get ready" I say just to appease her, at least she knows I'm still interested in going. Dora didn't change my mind, I don't even know if that was her aim but after sleeping all that off, I just want to get this new me started already so I take a quick shower and get ready for Lilian to get here.

My girl doesn't take that long, funny how she's my girl now and it's only been a couple of days but yeah, I guess not having any friends for a long time and then finally landing one makes you that way.

"Hey, can't believe you're not dressed yet? Where's your room, let's make you stun" Lilian says after I give her a quick hug and we head to my room "your house is pretty nice" she says "thanks" I reply, this house is nice yes but come on it's not all that, pretty basic compared to mum's, but of course , I don't tell Lilian that, my heart squeezes briefly just thinking of my mum, it's been so long since I spared her a thought and that makes me feel like a bad person.

"Hellooo, earth to Debby" Lilian nudges me out of my zone, "Still here" I chuckle as she playfully glares me down and brings out her makeup pallet, "alright girl, time to work some black girl magic on your white ass" and that's exactly what L does cause once I look at myself in the mirror after she's done, it's like I've never been more beautiful in all my life, really feels surreal, "damn girl look at you, okayy put your fit on and let's go have some fun" .

We are ready to actually party in 20minutes, matching in our cute outfits, I feel absolutely different, so confident, more beautiful than I have ever felt before "okay wow, who knew you had such a big ass under all that and then an angel face to go with it" Lilian says and I feel myself blush but of course I laugh to hide my reaction.

"one would think you're lesbian if you're complimenting me like that" I reply smiling as we get into her car, L driving cause she knows the way; "whoever said there's anything wrong with that?" She asks with this straight face and for a minute I actually think she's gay "but don't worry I'm not after you hun, I like the men" and we both laugh at that "I almost got you" she says in between us laughing, it's not a long drive and in 15minutes we actually get to the water park, it's 4pm now and we are right in time, "got the tickets?" L asks "yeah, right here" I take our tickets out of my purse and hand it over to Lilian, soon enough we're inside.

Everywhere is crowded and everyone is having fun already, "c'mon, let's find some of my friends and we can join the party" Lilian leads the way and I try to find my sister Dora, it's a large crowd of girls and guys but tons of girls with their tits and asses out and everybody just seems to be having way too much fun.

It's not even dark yet and a couple of people are throwing up from drinking too much obviously, beer pongs happening on one end, couples making out, some artist performing to a small crowd and people actually going wild in the small crowd for the artist, it's like a concert I've seen on tv but in a water park, the water slides are all being used, water is splashing everywhere, my eyes are literally all over the place, I'm trying to drink it all in at once, my first time out to something like this and this is honestly overwhelming.

I'm too busy looking that I don't realize Lilian has stopped moving and I bump into her and she bumps into this guy who spills his drink on some other girl and everybody turns my way cause of course I started the bump "oh, I'm super sorry, didn't mean for that to happen" I apologize to Lilian and by extension the rest of them, the guy is trying to help the girl clean her fit what looks like a bathing suit, it's almost no use since she's all wet and practically almost naked, "sorry guys, this is the girl I told you all about" Lilian says to the group.

There are 4 boys and 3 girls asides Lilian, I scan the group and they scan me in return "Hi I'm Debby" I say to the group with a wave, I'm determined to be somebody else today, a version of me that's supposed to be confident so I don't let that plan falter and I keep a warm smile on, "hey Debby, L is always talking about you" the guy who spilt his drink started "I thought nobody called you L" I say to Lilian smiling with amusement.

"We all call her L" the girl the drink was spilt on laughed "I'm Anna, you can call me Ann" she says "I'm Jace" the other guy says and everybody else introduces themselves and that's how I meet: Anna, Jace, Grace, Ronnie for Veronica, Pete, Landon and Ed. A great bunch cause they took me in almost immediately and boy I had the most fun I've ever had in my entire life, I even smoked weed for the first time. By the time the night was over, I knew I couldn't remain the same person for the rest of the summer, I just couldn't.
