Season 2 Episode 18
Margo stands in Jake Burtons room where he lays in the hospital bed. She's on the case as a pediatric surgeon but he has bony structures in his face making it look extremely swollen. Derek, Bailey, and her Interns all stand around his bed. "Burton. 15. Has advanced craniodiaphyseal dysplasia. Was admitted last night after complaining of headaches." Cristina robotically reports.
"Jake, can I get you to sit up please?" Derek politely questions so that he can exam him, Jake nods and slowly sits up.
Noticing that Cristina looks a little uncomfortable when Jake glances to her he says, "You know you could pretend I'm a lion. It helps. You could pretend I'm a lion and then instead of a really messed up kid you get a talking circus animal which is way easier to look at."
Both Derek and Margo glance to each other in amusement and chuckle. "Dr. Yang what's our immediate concern?"
"That the bony tumors are growing inward and encroaching on his brain." She responds.

Margo stands a little way aside Meredith in a comfortable silence at the nurses station reading through charts when a tall broad man approaches.
"Invasive non-cell. With a history of COPD. That guy's pretty much a goner, huh?" The man says in amusement.
Margo's eyes widen astronomically as she slowly turns her head but he doesn't seem to notice.
"Sensitivity. I like that in a stranger. Are you new here?" Meredith amusedly questions.
"Visiting. Confounded by all the rain and it's only my first day in town." He smirks down at the woman.
"You get used to it."
Meredith moves a few steps away closer to Margo and he follows. "Makes me wanna stay in bed all day."
"We just met and already you're talking about bed. Not very subtle." Meredith pointedly states.
"Subtle has never been my strong suit. So ... do you ever go out with co-workers?" He questions but his flirtatious smirk immediately falls as he finally notices Margo standing a few feet away with a hand on her hip and an unimpressed stare pointed toward him. "Margo... Funny seeing you here." He nervously chuckles.
He takes a step forward to properly greet here when he's hit so hard in the face he flies to the floor. He grunts in pain and Margo yelps in surprise. "Derek!"
Meredith who's also stunned looks toward Derek. "What the hell was that?"
"That was Mark." He states before stomping away to find the chief.
Margo hesitantly stops beside his crumpled form with an amused smile. "Why, hello there Mark. I agree, very funny seeing you here."
"Hi, Angel." He groans.
•
Margo is cleaning Mark's face wound in a trauma room where she knows all the interns are peeking into to try and gossip about the recent one sided fist fight.
"That's Derek's lusty intern, right? Heard about her all the way back in New York. She's famous." He muses.
"Don't talk about Meredith." She warns him with a pointed look.
"You know it's funny, Derek...Derek walks in on me naked with his wife actually in the throes. And he just turns around and walks away, but he sees me so much as talking to her and I'm on the ground bleeding. Interesting, don't you think?"
"Mark." She warns again.
"Why haven't you picked up the phone, Margo?" He bluntly questions.
Margo chews on her lip nervously, unsure of how to answer. "How did you find us?"
His eyes show hurt for a second before he sighs. "Truthfully, I called Addison. She mentioned the whole thing about the bomb and I forced her to tell me where you two were."
"Right." Margo whispers as she brings the needle to suture up to his face.
He holds his hand up in a stop motion. "Woah there Angel, let me do it."
She pulls her hand away and narrows her eyes. "Mark Everrett Sloan."
He stares at her for a moment and sighs, dropping his hands. "If this leaves a scar... I'll be ruined as a plastic surgeon Angel "
"It won't." She assures.
He winces as she finishes it off. "Is it safe to assume you'll let me see pumpkin tonight?"
Margo grimaces. "You know I want you to be able to see her Mark..."
"Derek." He scoffs.
"You slept with his wife." She gently attempts to defend her brother figure.
"It was a mistake. I made one mistake."
"Just give it time." She suggests. "I'm going to assume you want an x-ray to check for fractures and so I'll get one of the interns right on it."
"Why can't you do it?" He complains.
"I'm not an intern." She giggles, tapping him on the nose before reaching for the door handle.
"Wait."
Margo turns her head toward the man in confusion. "Meet me for a drink tonight." Margo's face drops. "I don't know Mark... Aurora-"
"Will be fine with out you for one night." He pushes. She sighs biting her lip again. "I'll think about it."
•
Margo is walking with Derek and Cristina in the hallway when they pass their patient, Jake's, room and notice Mark inside speaking with the parents.
Before Margo can stop him, Derek is furiously marching into the room barely holding his composure. "Dr. Sloan, can I help you with something?"
"He says he can fix my face. He says he can make me look like normal." Jake exclaims with wide eyes willed with wonder.
Derek meets Marks eyes head on, both of them staring each other down.
"Mr. And Mrs. Burton, we're just going to step out together for a moment to come up with a plan." Margo kindly assured the couple as she yanks both of them out by their arms and marches toward the chiefs office. "You guys cannot do this in front of patients.
Margo pushes them into the chiefs office in annoyance as they count in ur to bicker. "The point is you wanna get published!" Derek scoffs."
"Well yeah and I'm guessing your Chief of Surgery does too. You know how the press love a good before and after shot Richard." Mark looks to the chief with a pointed look.
Richard looks between the two men in annoyance then looks to Margo who just shrugs. "Call me Dr. Webber. "Derek out of friendship to you I would very much like to say no to this ... jackass. But as Chief ... Dr. Sloan if you can get the parents to sign a consent form ..."
Mark nods his head looking at derek with a smug smirk and winks at Margo. "Round two goes to the jackass."
•
Margo walks into the room with Derek and Jake's parents and raises a brow as she notices Mark drawing lines on the patients face with two interns observing.
"What do you think Dr.Shepherd, am I Dali or more of a Picasso?
Margo smiles at him as his mother speaks. "Could you stop doing that for a minute please?"
Mark pauses as the father kneels beside his son.
"Jake, Jake I'm sorry. This surgery, the brain surgery is very dangerous."
"Oh don't say that. You, you don't get to change your mind." The younger boy blurts out in anger.
"You know I know Dr. Sloan has made you some big promises ... but the bony tumors inside your skull are bad." Derek steps in trying to get the boy to see how truly dangerous this was. "The bleeding will be hard to control. I'm not trying to frighten you. I just want you to understand."
Jake looks to all of the adults in the room pleadingly. "I do understand this...I understand this has nothing to do with plastic surgery. So, so if I'm going to be under the Knife anyway then I-"
"The plastic surgery can be done at some other time." Mrs. Burton tries to calm the boy down as Mark interrupts. "Excuse me Jake is actually right. No reason to put him through a second surgery and a second round of anesthesia. It's much safer to just do it all at once."
"Come on mom. I almost died when I was ten years old. And then again when I was twelve. And then again last year. But, but I'm still alive. I'm still alive. So, so I say we go for it."
"Dr. Shepherd what do you think?" Mrs burton sniffles as she looks to the doctor that's been with them since the beginning that she fully trusted.
Everyone in the room looks to her and she glances between Derek and Mark both narrowing their eyes at her. "I think... I think that knowing all of your options and the pros and cons of each and then making an educated decision is always the smartest option."
"What would you choose for your own daughter?" Mrs. Burton pushes.
Margo sighs glancing to the floor. "If my daughter was in Jake's place... I think I'd let her do the second surgery."
Derek loudly scoffs and Mark smiles at her affectionately.
•
Not being needed for this surgery Margo watches the two men in the OR with a few others observing in the room. Mark stands to the side as Derek finishes up his surgery when Jake's heart monitor starts rapidly beeping. Margo's heart drops.
"Oh, son of a bitch. Alright I need another unit of blood!" They all hear Derek shout.
From beside her Bailey mourners to herself. "Oh no that's too much blood."
Margo grabs her hand in hopes of comforting not only Bailey but herself as well. The monitor flat lines and although Mark had shocked his body twice, the young boy was gone.
Bailey shakes her head and leaves as does everyone else in the gallery besides Margo who watches the devastation cross Mark and Derek's faces
•
Margo sits at the bar slowly drinking her whiskey.
"This seat taken?"
Margo turns her head with a smile. "Have a seat, Dr. Sloan."
He takes a seat and orders his own drink before turning to the woman beside him playing with her drink. "Why Seattle?"
Margo shrugs thoughtlessly. "Derek chose Seattle."
"Derek is a grown man, Margo." Mark stresses. "Derek is a grown man and can do things on his own. You didn't have to leave New York."
"He's my family." She sighs, rubbing her temples. "He's Aurora's family."
"And what does that make me?" He questions with underlining hurt in his voice.
"Why did you sleep with Addison?"
Mark pauses and Margo takes another sip of her drink turning to stare at him. "That's what I thought."
