4. Fugitive. (PART 2)

I had a plan and I knew my goal.

Find Grace first.

Do not lose to Jungkook.

As long as both of these went as planned, and in the same order, I wouldn't be in any trouble.

But try how much ever, I couldn't seem to recollect the colour of her shirt. All that stood out was the vividness of her scarf. I'd just have to keep a lookout for that then.

I thought I spotted Jin hyung's blonde hair out of my periphery, as I sped past a plush undergrowth of flower bushes. Darn it, if I had already found Grace by now, I could have tagged him.

I shot past a crossroad section and noticed Jungkook on the other side of the divider. He seemed to be intent on something, speeding by way too fast to be able to notice any of the fugitives who could have lurking nearby.

That's when an idea struck me.

Grace, I apologise for this. But a solid victory requires sacrifices.

I took a u-turn into a road that seemed to connect to the side that Jungkook had taken. I could just about notice a trace of his bright pink bumper. I had to cut him off somehow. Once more apologising mentally, to Jin hyung this time, I took a detour through one of the villa lawns. A little bit of grass got into my mouth as punishment.

Jungkook was so focused that he didn't notice me until I was driving parallel to him. Him on the road and me ripping up the well made lawn.

"Yah! What do you think you're doing?"

"Winning!" I shouted and overtook him. The sudden cut-in caught him off guard and he slowed down for a moment. I took the window and sped ahead.

Just as I had expected, there, hiding very much in plain sight, was a person wearing the scarf I had been intent on locating.

"Kim Taehyung, you have been hereby apprehended! Get in the car!" I flashed my headlights thrice to emphasize on my announcement.

"What?! Steph? I thought you were-" He caught himself before he could slip up.

"Driving a pink car? Aniyo, I chose the green one, remember? Now come on, we need to win this thing!"

He got in, but kept looking behind the car. Funny, Jungkook was right behind me, but now he seemed to have disappeared.

"Did you happen to notice any of the others around here?"

Taehyung grinned, putting on his favourite pair of yellow tinted glasses.

"Onward, my faithful steed! We have fugitives to catch!" He stood up, waving his hand over the windshield.

"And a prize to win." I reversed out of there, following directions from Taehyung's compass.

We had been driving around for a while and still hadn't caught a single fugitive. We only had about 13 minutes left. I was getting a little annoyed. Why did I have to change my own plan like that?

I had wanted to catch Taehyung as my look-out to simply annoy Jungkook even further, but it had put me at a disadvantage. Taehyung was my bestfriend after Grace and I positively adored him, but the boy really had the worst sense of direction.

"Taehyung-ah, are you sure this is the way? I feel like we've wandered off the premises."

His shades were off and he was squinting into the darkness. The sun had set a little after the game had begun, making it even more challenging to spot anyone, despite the light from the car.

"I swear I heard Hobi hyung shout from somewhere around here," he trailed off still staring away, leaning precariously against the windshield.

"Yah, be careful." I had taken my eyes off the road for just a minute, when something came running out of the bushes screaming bloody murder.

I couldn't help the scream that rang out of my own mouth as I stepped on the brakes with such immense force, that a yelling Taehyung would have flown out of the car if I hadn't been holding onto one end of his jacket.

"Hyung!" Sure enough, it was Hoseok, sprawled on the floor and still screaming at something past the bushes.

"Hyung! Hyung, what's wrong?" Taehyung got out of the car, to help him up. I stayed where I was, just in case there was a wild animal we needed to be running from.

We heard breathy giggles coming from the direction that Hoseok was staring in, followed by a pink faced Jimin who was holding a fat piece of vine.

"Hyung, you're so easy to scare." And he burst into laughter again. Taehyung let out a huge breath of relief and collapsed next to Hobi. That's when I remembered.

"Both of you, in the car, now! You've been caught."

It was an awful scare but I was smiling, because I had two fugitives in my hold, Taehyung excluded. One more and I would win. Taehyung had to sit in the back with Hobi cos he refused to sit next to Jimin, still miffed from being pranked. And since we were running out of time, I decided to let them ride along instead of leaving them in the safe zone.

"Hey Steph, take the next left cut, I think I see someone there." Jimin was serving to be a much better look out too.

I followed as he said, slowing down a bit to take the turn, when I heard blaring noises like some sort of Wild Hunt. Right behind us was Jungukk, driving straight for us. And leaning against the windshield was Grace, hooting excitedly, while Namjoon wailed from the backseat in match to her yells. It would have been the most comical sight ever, if this wasn't a competition and if Jungukk hadn't been trying to steal my prize.

"Steph, faster! Faster! Take the turn!" I did but I was too slow and the Pink Cooper of Hooters sped past us.

"Shit."

I didn't waste any time and tailed them. Both Jimin and Tae were yelling in my ears to drive faster, and Hobi well, he had probably fainted out of fear because I didn't hear a peep out of him.

But by the time we reached the spot, Jin hyung was already bathed in Jungukk's headlights. Grace was pouting menacingly at me from next to the driver's seat. Don't ask me how anyone can turn a pout menacing, it's a Grace thing. I shrugged and mouthed a sorry.

"Well, hello Steph. Funny seeing you here." Jungukk reversed to stop next to my car.

I gave him a syrupy smile.

We had captured equal number of captives, minus the lookouts. I had Jimin and Hobi, while he had Jin hyung and Namjoon. The tie breaker was going to be,

"Yoongi hyung."

"Yoongi hyung."

We stared at each other upon on our timed exclamation. Jungukk broke into a smile first.

"May the best player win." he revved his engine.

"I'll meet you at the Golden Closet."

I sped off, before he could react.

"Steph, what if Yoongi hyung fell asleep somewhere?" Tae asked from the backseat.

I checked my watch. The timer showed 9 minutes left.

"Then, we'll get a marching band if we have to."

We had given up driving around and split up on foot near the safe zone to look for Yoongi hyung. Time was ticking and after a while Jungukk's gang joined us. But Yoongi hyung was nowhere to be found.

The game turned more serious and worry grew. Jin hyung called up some staff and asked them to keep an eye out too. My timer rang out at the end of 30 minutes signalling the end of the game.

"I guess, it's a tie then."

Neither of us were in a mood to argue, and went over to our respective cars so we could drive it to the entrance.

I got in and was just about to start my engine, when I heard soft rustling sounds from the backseat. Chills ran up my spine at the thought of a snake coiling up to strike. My entire body seemed frozen. The rustling stopped after a few seconds, and I braved it to look behind.

There were streetlights a little away from my car, which cast a shadowed brightness into the seats. And right there, curled up under Taehyung's discarded jacket was Yoongi hyung. Relief and excitement took over together.

We had found him AND I WON.

"GUYS! OVER HERE!"

The bustle woke hyung up in no time. He simply complained about the noise and turned over in the seat, settling more comfortably under Tae's jacket.

"I guess you won after all."

The boys had teased Jungukk about missing out on a very interesting date, and about how his dreams had just crashed and burned. He had laughed it off, but now standing here, he seemed a little sad. Like a puppy who just saw his owner leave for who knew how long.

"Sure did." I tried to look haughty but the blush creeping up to my face was making it difficult. Grace was standing a little away from where we were, throwing her hands and making faces at the both of us. There was a lot of mouthing 'SAY YES' and pointing at Jungukk.

I looked at him then. His hands were in his pocket, as he scuffed invisible stones with his sneakers, head hung low.

I should have thrown my heart away when I had the guts to do it.

"Well then," that caught his attention and he looked up, eyes slightly expectant.

"I'll see you at the studio." The spark vanished, seeming as if I had imagined it in his gaze.

Grace was jumping like a crazy monkey, when she saw me walking off.

I counted exactly ten steps and then turned around.

"Oh and Jungukk?"

He whipped his head in my direction, hands halfway through tugging violently at the strings of his hoodie.

"If you're getting Pizza, go easy on the onions." I managed half a smile, before turning away to cup at my reddening face.

"Also!" I turned around way too fast at the sound of his voice, and he had taken a few steps forward, as if expecting me to run away if given the chance.

"Can I pick you up?" He had his bottom lip rolled in, and a smile teasing one end of his mouth.

"Yes, alright. 7-ish?"

"It's a date." The smile turning into a full blown grin.

"It's a date."
