4. Fugitive. (PART 1)
This is kind of an OT7 FF. But also, a bit centered on Jungkook and a little on Taehyung, I guess. Anyway, it's a BTS FF so that should do, right?
Also this scene might or might not show up in my book. I'm not sure but it was a pretty cool plot so I couldn't wait around for it. Since I promised a certain someone a reward, I decided to put it up here.
This was probably the longest lunch I had been subjected to in my life so far. Also the only one that I'd been the reason to let drag on.
"I think seven people, out of the nine at this table can root for how good of a driver I am. That's quite the majority." Jungkook smirked, throwing a hand over the booth, where it rested right above my shoulders.
I leaned away purposely, knowing how much it would irk him.
"Well, one of those seven, probably two, will vote for me over you." I narrowed my eyes at Taehyung and Grace, who were huddled together, opposite to where I was sat. They munched on French fries like nothing happened, neither of them making eye contact.
"I mean, to think of all the supermarket coupons that have been littering my kitchen drawers." I sighed dramatically for effect, and it was all it took.
"Jungukk-ah, you're both good drivers," Tae started, but then felt my glower and cowered behind Grace slightly.
"What Tae meant was," Grace continued for him.
But before she could think of a diplomatic enough reply to come up with, Jin hyung spoke up.
"I don't even understand why the two of you are fighting over this. Especially when I'm sitting right here.
Jungkook groaned, throwing his head against the head rest.
"Hyung! This isn't about you!"
"Settle it, then."
All heads turned toward Yoongi, watching him as he swiped at some ketchup with a fry and popped it into his mouth.
"Settle? What-"
Hobi cut me off before I could protest.
"Oh yes, yes. Hyung-nim, you're so smart! Jungukk-ah, you and Steph should have a race! That will be fun!"
"Ah hyung, come on! Where's the fun in that for us?" Jimin grumbled, slouching in his seat.
"It should be a game. Like, a chasing game!"
"FUGITIVE!" Grace responded as soon as Taehyung suggested a game, as if they had been having a conversation of their own inside their heads. Their giddy little smirks at each other only added to my doubt.
Jungkook and I simply sat and watched as heads nodded and everyone else voiced their enthusiasm. Finally Namjoon spoke up.
"Jungkook and Steph should be the only drivers then, fighting for the prize."
Everyone except Jungkook and I were talking excitedly. But I could feel a flurry of thrill at the thought of competing against Jungkook. I would win, that was for sure. When I turned to him, he had a look on his face and a twinkle in his eyes that I probably mirrored.
This was going to be fun.
As per Namjoon's instructions, all of us showed up at the resort on time. It was one of Jin hyung's, which was temporarily down for renewal and suited our cause perfectly. Hobi and Yoongi hyung were the last to arrive.
Grace and I had arrived just as the three Kims and the one Jeon, were parking the car. Jin hyung was the one driving and I grabbed the opportunity to show off my parking skills, while Grace slumped in shotgun, pretending not to know me.
This was a serious competition, and I would make use of every chance I got, to prove myself the best.
"Now that everyone's arrived, lets brief through the rules, shall we?"
We formed a circle, with Namjoon in the centre. Taehyung and Jimin were messing around, making a great show of popping their knuckles and cracking their necks. I noticed how Grace and Tae were wearing matching scarves. Grace had wound it over her hair, while Tae had it knotted around his neck. Despite this not being their event, these two never turned down an opportunity to dress far beyond the occasion.
I rolled my eyes when Grace became aware that I noticed, and stuck her tongue out at me. What do I do with these kids?
I felt eyes on me, and turned in the most obvious direction of a bucket hat and undercover black ensemble adorned Jeon Jungkook. He was in a casual stance, hands in his pockets and smirk in place. I immediately put one of my own on.
"Stephanie and Jungkook will be the only drivers in this game, the rest of us are all fugitives. Who ever gets caught by either of them first, will become their respective look-outs and join them in the car. The rest of us, if caught afterwards, must return to the safe point. The one who catches the most fugitives wins. Here are your flags."
He handed me a set of blue flags, and Jungkook a similar set of purple ones.
"You will give these to the fugitives that you catch, so as to avoid confusion. Oh, and also, there's a time limit of 30 minutes."
I wanted to groan in defiance, but held my tongue. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Jungkook steeling his jaw as well.
"Don't worry, there's a limit of location to even out that rule. The game will be held only in the residential section. The roads are wider, and better paved and ground to be covered is comparatively less. Any fugitive that wanders beyond said premises will be disqualified and will have a penalty after the game."
This caused a unified protest from the entire group, as Namjoon grinned in the most evil, yet adorable way.
"Okay, okay! Questions?"
Jungkook's hand lazily went up.
"Hyung, what are we supposed to drive? The palisades are too big."
"Fear not, Jungukkie!" Jin hyung drew Jungkook to him with an arm around his shoulder, steering him away from the group.
We could hear the sound of engines purring, and I got excited at the thought of being allowed to drive an actual sports car. Jungkook was craning his neck eagerly to see what was arriving too. But the rest of the boys were snickering to themselves, well except for Yoongi hyung who seemed to be looking for a soft place to rest his head, from underneath hooded eyes.
Then, from behind the over grown palm leaves, drove out two Mini Coopers. A pastel mint one, and a pastel pink one.
I wasn't even aware of my doing it, as I ran right up to the mint one shouting for dibs.
"Yah! You! That's not fair, I hadn't even taken a look at the cars, yet. Hyung, a mini cooper?!"
"Haha, you snooze, you lose." The driver got out, bowed and handed over the keys. I chucked myself into the snug seat.
I was just about to start the engine when the driver asked for my attention, He leaned towards my seat, and pointed at something next to the window activation buttons.
"No way," A humming sound went through the car, as the roof began to retreat to the back.
Jungkook, who had been observing the transformation till the very end, jumped into his pink car and followed action.
"Okay hyung, I take it back. This part is pretty cool!"
I searched for Grace among the group, and spotted her next to Jimin and Tae. She was already looking, and when she caught my eye, sent me a subtle nod and a smile. Satisfied, I turned forward again, to see Jungkook watching me with narrowed eyes. I simply raised an eyebrow in question, not giving away my uneasiness about the fact that he had probably caught me.
"Drivers, are you ready?" Hobi shouted through the megaphone he had brought along. It was louder than necessary, but we shouted to match it's sound.
"Wait, wait, hold on!" Jimin ran over to Hobi and grabbed the mic from him.
"What about the prize? What does the winner get?"
All of them turned to look at me and Jungkook, and we turned to look at each other. Jungkook's blank expression slowly began to morph.
"The winner gets a prize of his choosing from the loser!" He shouted, raising an eyebrow back at me.
"Jungkook-ah, you're very cunning." Jimin snickered into the megaphone. "Okay, pick your prizes!"
Since he played dirty, so would I. Underestimation never suited me anyway.
"I want first and exclusive preview of your next G.C.F. Bloopers, drafts and all." Everyone knew how specific he was when it came to his G.C.Fs, and how he preferred working alone.
I expected at least a flinch, if not an outright denial, but the smile remained. If anything, I swear I saw it get a tad wider.
"And I demand..." he let it hang there for a while. "A date."
Cheers and hoots rang out, Grace joining the ruckus as well. I glared back and forth between Jungkook and the rest of them.
"Drivers, do you agree to each other's terms?" Taehyung had taken over since Jimin couldn't stop giggling.
"Yes or Yes? Come on, I need answers!" Taehyung, ever so dramatic.
"I agree, Steph." Jungkook called out to me.
He thought he had me cornered. What he didn't know was, this was going to drive me further towards wanting to win this game. Oh, he wasn't going to get away that easy.
"I agree to your terms as well."
"Alright then. Drivers, in position. Fugitives, in position."
We drove over to the entrance of the residential area, while the rest of them ran ahead inside.
"Drivers, start your engines exactly three minutes after the fugitives have taken off!"
Taehyung ditched his megaphone and ran over to where Grace was waiting. She flashed me a thumbs up and I honked in reply.
"I look forward to winning this, Steph." Jungkook was leaning out the window, one muscled arm showing off against his black sleeve.
"And I look forward to disappointing you, Jungkook." I shot a wink at him, and revved my engine, leaving him in my dust.
SHOULD I, OR should I not, continue this?
