2. Paper Bunnies. (Part 2)
. I took it to my hands, gingerly, so as to not disturb the packing and whatever was inside it. It felt a tad heavy, like it held something of meaning within.
Before I could open it, the statue took two steps to the side, revealing a crevice between it's pedestal and the wall behind it. And from it sprung out my little magician bunny.
"There you are! For a second, I thought you pulled a vanishing act on me!" It came running over on its itty-bitty paper paws, tripped over a piece of lint, and tumbled into my slippers.
"Awww, here," I was just about to set it right, when it bounced back up with another squeak.
"You're a hyper little thing aren't you?" As if in response, it ran into the crevice. Oh well, I followed it this far. Might as well go all the way.
It was a room. An empty yet spacious room, with four pillars and a high dome. There only seemed to be one other way into this room and the little creature was hopping at the corner of a hallway that went out of the room, it's ears flopping in my direction. It then turned towards the hallway and let out three consecutive squeaks.
"Alright, alright. I'm coming." I was getting pretty attached to the little enchantment. I wonder whoever designed it, would maybe let me keep it.
As I neared the turning, I heard the sound of shoes thwacking upon the cobbled floor. I approached it with caution. What if it was a prank? I popped a head around the corner and almost got incapacitated by the body that came running right into me.
"Diane! Run!" Before I knew it, I was being hauled along by none other than Jungkook. I almost fell on my face, unable to get my footing immediately.
"What are you doing?! Let Go! Why are we running?!" I was already out of breath, but the boy was all smiles as he looked past his shoulders at something that caused him to pick up his pace.
"Come on, come on! Hurry! Don't drag your feet, Diane!"
The gall of him! My stubborn streak flared up at his teasing comment, but I didn't have enough air in my lungs to finish a comeback. So I saved it.
We zig-zagged through a few corridors, until he stopped abruptly and pulled me behind a pane of glass. It was see-through. If he was hiding from someone, it was going to be in vain.
"Jungkook, this-" he clamped a hand over my mouth, his face too close to mine. And made an inaudible 'Shh' that I could make out by reading his lips. Lips that were extremely close to mine, that had a protective armour over it, which was his hand.
I watched out of my periphery, as Filch limped past our flimsy hideout. He looked this way and that, huffed in annoyance, and limped in the direction he assumed we went in.
"Don't make a sound." He whispered as he took his hand off, but his face was still as close as ever. "This," he gestured with his eyes, "is the Unseen Looking Glass. I rigged it with an enhanced Disillusionment Charm to make anyone unable to look through it. Only at and into it."
"Oh."
"Yeah." He rolled his tongue around in his mouth, as his eyes danced all over my face.
"Why are we here, Jungkook? Why did you pull me into whatever trouble you've landed yourself in?"
"Shhh! Diane!" He pressed his hand more forcefully against my mouth this time, pushing me against the stone wall in the process.
"Mmphh!!"
I contemplated hitting him with a Jelly-Legs curse, when I heard Filch's heavy breathing coming towards us. He stopped infront of the mirror, looking right at us.
"Shit." Jungkook cursed under his breath, as he followed Filch's movement.
"Diane, if this ends badly, I just need to ask you one thing," He had turned to me, urgency in his voice as well as his eyes.
I gripped his hand before he could finish the sentence. Filch was more close to the mirror than before and if Jungkook said another word, he would hear it for sure. I pointed a finger at Filch and shook my head.
The both of us held our breath, as Filch got uncomfortably close to the glass. To us, it appeared as if he were nearly nose to nose with us. Until, he swept a gnarly hand through his scattered wisps of hair and flashed a grimace at the mirror.
"My, you're still quite the looker, aren'tcha Argus." He pulled up his collars, and posed sideways, still ogling over his reflection. It was a good thing Jungkook had his palm over my mouth, my snickering was muffled. Jungkook was struggling to keep his laughter under control, biting his cheeks together in the attempt. I squeezed his hand one more time to remind him of the consequences if Filch heard us.
After waving a creepy goodbye to his reflection, Filch wandered off, muttering under his breath about 'impudent purebloods'.
Jungkook heaved out a deep sigh and dropped his hand.
"That was close."
"It still is."
"What?"
"What?"
He cocked an eyebrow at me and I forced myself to breathe normally. This is Jungkook, Diane. The guy who is always your competition. Your counterpart in the competition for fame and glory. You are NOT-
"Open it." He gestured towards my waistcoat.
"Excuse me?!"
"The gift box, you prude."
"Jeon Jungkook, don't you dare call me a prude!"
"Okay sexy, open the box now."
I gave him my most menacing look and decided to ignore him, and the way his drawling out the word 'sexy' affected me.
I took out the box from the pockets of my jacket, where I had tucked it into. The packing was still intact. Obviously.
"Did you do all this? The bunny, the suit of armour, this box?"
"No, it was Filch. Didn't you see him sniffing around for you? I'm just saving you from making the biggest mistake of your life."
"Jungkook."
"Didn't the bunny give away enough?"
I rolled my eyes and proceeded to untie the ribbon.
"What was even the need for all this-"
The little box did have something of meaning, after all. It looked like a corsage, but a tiny one. One that would only fit on my finger. The flower, though, was gorgeous. Aesthetically arresting, just how I liked it. It was a blend of blues and violets and white.
"Its a blue orchid."
I had forgotten him beside me, due to the captivating beaut that was the flower.
"But there are no blue orchids." I was still caressing the delicate petals.
Jungkook chuckled at that and shook his head.
"Quit being a know-it-all for once, and appreciate the romantic gesture, Diane."
That grabbed my attention by the collar and brought it back to his existence.
"Romantic?"
"Yep," he took the corsage-ring out of the box and gingerly placed it over one finger.
"Flos Flore" he whispered and the flower bloomed. It was the most beautiful thing I'd ever laid eyes on. The white of it grew first, expanding over the blues, almost engulfing them. But soon enough the blue and violet had caught up, causing the three colours to swirl over the petals in an intricate art. It bloomed until the flower was the size of my fist, perhaps larger.
Jungkook wore it on my left wrist and held my hand.
"While you're still awestruck over my prodigious spellcasting skills, let me ask you this."
He wet his bottom lip and raised both his eyebrows, like an excited kid.
"Diane Kover, would you go to the Annual Tournadom Ball with me?"
"Well...."
"Don't tell me you already said yes to someone. Because I did my research before making all these preparations."
"Jungkook are you stalking me?!"
"Desperate measures, babe."
I gawked at him. I felt overwhelmed to be treated so special.
"Hmm. This corsage *is* too pretty to let it go to waste."
"Diane!"
"I will, under one condition."
"There's nothing I'm limited to doing for you."
I cocked an eyebrow at his exaggerated words. He displayed his bunny teeth in a helpless smile.
"I want that little paper bunny. I wanna keep him."
"Oh. I'll make sure he has my voice, my teeth, maybe even my-"
"I only want the bunny! As it is! I don't want it to resemble you in anyway!"
"Fine. Whatever. Done."
I shot him a shy smile and smoothened one of the petals. They felt like velvet. To think he went to such extremes, only to ask me out for the ball.
"Okay."
"Okay?"
"Yeah okay."
"Perhaps Okay will be our Always." That was it. I doubled over with laughter and he held onto my arm to keep me from slipping off the little platform we were standing upon.
"God, I didn't know you were this cheesy."
"Brie my date, then?" He added a wink to that.
"Sounds grate." I shot him a smirk. He hopped off the platform. Yes, hopped. And checked for any sign of Filch before helping me down as well. It wasn't all that high up, but if he wanted to play the gentleman, I wasn't stopping him.
"So, was this what you wanted to ask me before Filch was supposedly going to nab us?"
"Nah."
"Oh! What was it then?"
"Diane Kover, would you go to detention with me?"
Ahh, why did I even have a crush on such a dork?
