Prologue
"Okay, one more time through and we'll be done, alright?"
Alex looks up from his guitar, frowning at the producer. Rodrick was sitting on the comfy couch in the recording area, while Alex was stuck standing for the last six hours. "You know, you said that three runs ago," He replies, yawning loudly. He woke up at eight in the morning to record two new songs for his album, and his eyes were drooping. When he glanced at the clock, he nearly whined aloud.
It was already six in the afternoon.
Rodrick rolled his eyes, pushing the intercom button before replying flatly,"That was before you decided to freak out because of a spider." And honestly? Alex only uses the spider excuse when he's desperate. Everyone was already taking a break, why couldn't he? "Spiders are terrifying, Rodrick," Alex defends, albeit weakly. He couldn't be bothered anymore, he was so tired.
A deep laugh comes from the back of the recording room, and Alex perked up quickly, smiling slightly. That laugh belonged to Damon,his best friend. Alex met Damon right before his first single #1, and they've been best friends since. Damon ran into him on the street because his sister stole his beanie, and 'his bedhead was terrible'. Alex fell hard, then and there.
Literally and figuratively.
Alex new he liked Damon as a 'way more than friends' aspect, he's not in denial. He just knew that Damon has a girlfriend, that Alex set him up with, and Damon's actually straight."Come on, Al! One more time and then we can go drink to our hearts content," Damon coaxes, and honestly, Alex couldn't deny him anything. He found himself sighing deeply, nodding.
"Fine, fine."
::::
The two of them were seated on Damon's amazingly comfy couch, each holding a beer of their own while searching for a movie they can both agree on."What about Tangled?" Alex suggests, and Damon merely sends him a look of 'absolutely not' before going back to the television. "Hey, why not? It's a classic!" Alex exclaims, eyes filling with fake offence. "Because that's such a gay movie," Damon replied simply, and Alex felt actual offence instead.
Damon didn't notice, suggesting another movie,"Infinity war?"Alex shakes his head, his eyes staring at the television as they scrolled through. "How about Lord of The Rings, always a classic," Alex looks over expectantly, and Damon leans back, actually thinking it over. "First or second?"
Alex looks at him in annoyance."The third, dipshit."
The night progresses with more beers for Alex, and eventually, Alex voices that Bilbo is a whiny child with big feet. Alex may or may not be drunk. Okay, he is drunk, and that means he says stupid things without meaning too. One time, he told Carter, his agent, that her stove looked like Voldemort.
And suddenly Alex realizes he's been staring at Damon for the past five minutes, while he watched Lord of the Rings. His head is filled with him telling Damon his feelings, and of them being accepted. Logically, he's aware they won't be, and yet when you're drunk, anything logical falls out the window.
And Damon's hot, everyone with eyes can see that. Forgive him, because Damon's also a nice guy, treats his girlfriend right, helps out when he can, volunteers. Sue him, but Damon's a damn catch. Alex didn't realize he was staring until Damon catches him. His eyebrows furrow, and he speaks teasingly, "You alright there, Al?" Alex wills himself to not flush, and he nods quickly, turning back to the movie.
"Y-yeah, Yeah, I'm good."
Damon flashes a smirk beside him, and Alex know's that he's not off the hook. It should be illegal to be that good looking."What're you thinking about?" Damon hums, sipping his beer. "You." He rasps, and really? Alex. Alex. No.
Damon snickers and Alex immediately slaps his hands over his face, eyes widening in horror."What about me, Al?" He quickly stands, shaking his head. "I-I was just kidding, you know, joking around like good buddies do, haha! Should have seen your face!" Damon looks unconvinced, watching him flounder.
Yeah, Alex isn't an actor for a reason.
"What, do you like me or something?" Damon has the nerve looks amused, and Alex looks down meekly. "I mean, if we're being technical yeah, I like you."
Alex winces when Damon stands up, his shoulders tensing up. "Are you serious? As in that way?" Alex nods slowly, staring at his shoes. He really didn't want to have this conversation. Ever. He's never really told anyone about his crush, and now he's admitting it to his crush, the only person who really shouldn't be knowing about this and oh no Damon does not look happy.
Damon throws a beer bottle, and Alex flinches when it smashes into the wall behind him."Stop joking around, Alex!This is serious!You- You can't just say you like me. I'm straight!"Alex rolls his eyes, scoffing, "You think I don't know that, Asshole? Yes, I know you like vagina and your happily in a relationship with Sarah. I set you two up."
Damon glares. "Really? Name calling?" He shrugs in defense, finally looking up at him, "I am a simple man, Damon." His friend sighs, holding his forehead as if he's the one going through a hard time.
"Look, I know you like me and all, but just don't like, try to make me gay. Okay?" He voices, holding his hands out in a defensive way. Alex has to take an actual second to comprehend what the hell Damon just said. He blinks. Once. Twice. Then the anger that fills him is explosive. He stomps forwards, jabbing his chest with his pointer finger.
"Are you fucking serious, Damon?! Do you think that being gay is some kind of disease or something?" Damon goes to opens his mouth, and Alex continues, undeterred. "First off, I'm not gonna 'turn you gay', that's not how it works!"He pokes at Damons chest accusingly."Secondly, if that were even a thing, you'd been gay long before I ever met you!" Alex takes a deep breath, glaring right at his friend. Was he serious?
Damon raises his hands, eyes wide, "Alright, Alex. I get it, you're not gonna turn me gay, or anything like that," Damon tries, continuing slowly, "Just maybe don't act too flamboyant in public, okay? That's not good for your reputation." Alex takes a step back, and takes a deep breath. He then grabs his phone, his keys, and his wallet, all while Damon watches in confusion.
He only stops Alex as he heads toward the front door. "Wait, Al!"Damon grabs Alex's hand, and he rips it away quickly, as if burned by the guys touch. It feels like it, anyway. "You don't get to call me that!" Damon frowns, seemingly not getting it. Alex scoffs,"Really? Don't act too flamboyant. I tell you that I like you, and suddenly I can act 'too flamboyant'?!" He's fuming, glaring deeply. Damon flounders, trying to explain himself.
"Alex, I'm sorry! I just, I've never seen a gay person act straight before!" Alex feels his heart crack, because how did he not see it before?"Not every gay person is like that, Damon. Jesus Christ are you that idiotic?" Damon looks down, having the nerve to be tearing up. "I guess you are."
Alex picks up his coat, and opens the door, turning back to face him, voicing icily, "The next time we talk, I hope it's an apology."Before slamming the apartment door in his friends face. Alex feels a tear in his heart when he doesn't follow.
:::
The singers been walking down the side of the street for god knows how long, his eyes shedding tears while shivers rack his body. His cars at home, being left due to his carpool that morning, and his phones dead from using it throughout his recording session. Honestly, he's such an irresponsible adult. Shaking his head, he looks around, trying to get his bearings.
Alex finds himself in front of a small building, the signs lettering flickering in and out too much to make the name out, but from the laughing, smell of smoke, and the couple making out in the front, he supposes it's a bar.
He feels the dilemma in his heart more than his head. Should he go in? It's only a Saturday night, surely he didn't have anything Tomorrow, right? Wiping away his tears from his face, he opens the bar door and promptly runs into a pole or something close to that, falling on his ass.
"Shit!"A high-toned voice exclaims.
Okay, so not a pole.Wonderful.
