Missing Man
I lower myself into the warm bubble bath I created my and close my eyes, feeling very relaxed. Self-care days are my absolute favorite.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I wake up in a panic. I look around and realize that I feel asleep in the bath. I need to stop doing that, it's actually very dangerous. I sigh and put my head under the now cold water.
"Rinnie!" Grant's voice cuts through my grogginess, instantly grabbing my attention.
I sit up in the tub, looking for my towel. "I'm in here!"
I glance at my phone laying on the floor that's lighting up, telling me it's 4am.
I hear footsteps approaching the bathroom door. "I'm coming in."
"Grant, it's 4am." I groan.
The door flies open, exposing Grant's unbelievably handsome face. I realize he's drunk instantly. His eyes are shining, and his hair is disheveled.
I struggle to reach my towel. Grant notices, grabs the towel and hands it to me. I press the soft red towel against me as I stand up and attempt to wrap it around my body. Grant comes over without hesitation and helps me.
"Thank you." I smile up at him.
He traces my face. "I love you."
My heartbeat soars every time he says that to me. "I love you too. Did you have fun?"
"It wasn't bad." He smirks.
"Where's your partner in crime?"
"I'm looking at her."
I shake my head, smiling. "Your other partner in crime...Grayson."
His eyes get wide. "S***!"
"What's wrong?"
"I don't know what happened." He looks down.
My heart sinks. "What do you mean?"
"I drank way too much, and it all happened so fast." He's clearly flustered.
"What happened?"
"Grayson's missing." Grant finally meets my eyes.
I am speechless for a moment. This is the last thing I was expecting to come out of his mouth.
I take a minute to think, then place a hand gently on his shoulder. "We'll find him. We can go together and search for him."
Grant nods back at me, hope glimmering in his eyes.
"Where's the last place you saw him?"
He bites his lower lip in concentration. I do my best not to lose focus, but it's no easy task when he looks like that. "The bar down on 5th street."
I sigh. I've only been to that bar once since I've been here and that was more than enough for me. It's full of prostitutes and pimps. "Are you sure he didn't leave with a girl?"
Grant adamantly shakes his head. "I don't think. He didn't seem too interested in any of the women there."
I am not so sure Grant is right. Grayson is extremely attractive and friendly. I would be shocked if there wasn't at least one girl attempting to get his attention. I don't want to say that to Grant though. I don't want to disrespect him, so I quickly change the subject.
"Before we freak out, let's drive around the neighborhood and see if we can find him wandering around." I take Grant's hand and lead him out of the bathroom so I can get dressed. "Wait right here, I'll be out in just a minute."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We spend an hour and a half driving through the neighborhood, asking if anyone has seen Grayson. Every person we see seems to be drunk and can't remember. The only clue we find is Grayson's bloody jacket on the ground in some sketchy back ally. This sends me into a state of panic. I instantly start picturing the worse. I can't help but remember his bright smile and kind eyes.
I lean back against a building, exhausted. "We need to call the hospital, maybe someone took him to the hospital."
"The hospital?!" Grant looks bewildered, then stares back at the bloody jacket and nods. "Yeah, we better call the hospital."
The cold night breeze flies across my face, taking my breath. I'm not even sure if they're able to tell us if he's at the hospital due to patient confidentiality. Adding to the already stressful situation, as I reach in my pocket, I discover I left my phone back at Grayson and Grant's hotel room.
"Let's go back home and grab my phone, then we can head to the hospital."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We hear a loud bang coming from inside our hotel room. Grant and I look at each other, horrified.
I go to open the door and Grant pulls me back against him. "Let me go first." He whispers in my ear.
"Fine, but I'm right behind you."
Grant opens the door slowly and pauses. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm staying here too you know." Grayson's voice hits my ears, making me feel both relieved and angry. My blood starts to boil.
I walk past Grant into the apartment. "Where were you?" I point an accusatory finger at Grayson.
Grayson looks up from the pancakes he's making. "I was in the emergency room, some girl hit her head and I walked her to the hospital." He pauses and runs a hand through his hair. "I think she was a stripper."
Grant shakes his head in disbelief. "You hooked up with a stripper?! Have you learned nothing from me?"
I glare at Grant. "That's what you're concerned about?" I turn to Grayson. "You can't just disappear."
"What do you mean?" Grayson asks, looking genuinely confused.
"Why didn't you call me?" Grant crosses his arms.
Grayson shrugs. "Didn't know I was supposed to."
My eyes get wide. "You were out with Grant, drinking a lot and disappeared in a dangerous part of town and didn't think you were supposed to let him know you were okay? You were in the emergency room Grayson! We spent almost two hours looking for you only to find your stupid bloody jacket." I throw his jacket at him angrily.
He stares back at me, stunned. "I'm sorry, I didn't know anyone was even looking for me."
Grant shakes his head. "He always does this. His parents let him do whatever when he was growing up. He'd just wander off without letting anyone know where he was going and he never broke the habit."
"Well stop it Grayson! No offense, but your parents sound like terrible parents."
"They weren't bad." Grayson looks around uncomfortable.
I turn to Grant. "Just a question, who was planning on driving home, because you two both appear to be intoxicated."
"We were going to walk."
I throw my hands up in the air. "You guys need to be more careful."
Grant puts his hand on my lower back. "Next time we will."
I want to be annoyed, but it's impossible with his hand there. "You better." I say, defeated.
Grayson smiles tiredly at us. "I'm making us chocolate chip pancakes."
"Sounds delicious, thank you." I smile at him.
Grant smirks. "Thanks man."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"So I grabbed the pole, ready to strip when I heard a thud. I look over to see the half-naked woman on the ground with her hand out. She fell reaching for a $1 bill." Grayson brings a fork with a fresh strawberry on it to his mouth.
I try my best not to laugh. "Oh my gosh!"
"I didn't even realize there were strippers there! You should thank her; she got your dumb a** off the pole before people started throwing tomatoes at you." Grant smirked.
I can't help but smile at Grant's lack of knowledge of the strippers.
"You're so cool Zephyrine, you don't even care that there were strippers." Grayson smiled wide at me and then he turned to Grant and rolled his eyes. "I'm sorry, all I remember is you singing that little song you wrote called Rinnie is mine."
"I trust Grant." I stare at Grant, my interest immediately peaked. "You wrote a song?"
Grayson smirked. "Did he write a song?! How did it go again? Something like she moves like an angel, getting me addicted. She's all my mine, I'm feeling gifted. Or was it feeling lifted?"
Grant sends Grayson a warning glance. "Let's talk about you and this stripper. How close did you guys get?"
I smile at Grant. "I think I want to hear this song."
Grayson stands up. "Let me try to reenact it."
Grant grabs his arm and pulls him back down. "Let's not. You didn't answer my question."
"I don't know, why don't you ask her tonight when we go out?"
I freeze. "You're going out again tonight?"
"Yeah, I mean it's Saturday." Grayson smirks at me oblivious to my growing frustration. "You coming?"
I shake my head. "No thanks."
Grant cups my checks in his hands. "I'm not going if you're not going."
"It's just that last night things were a little out of control. I don't know if I can deal with another night like that tonight."
"You should totally come! Grant is going to be on his best behavior if you're there and so will I!" Grayson interjects.
I debate his argument in my head and decide that he's probably right. "Okay, I'll come."
Grant and Grayson erupt into cheers.
