Chapter 11
Death is not the opposite of life but a part of it.
Violet's POV
As I hear the gunshot, I quickly run to the kitchen, Livia and Bella trailing behind me. I enter and find Rose's bloody body on the floor. I kneel beside her putting pressure on her wound to stop the bleeding. I turn to Bella and Livia,"Go get help." They run out the kitchen, and I turn and face Rose.
Why did I leave her alone with that man? How could I have been so stupid? He probably shot her, but it didn't make sense. Why would he shot her? Rose wasn't one to look for trouble, and she was nice to everyone even to people that treated her like dirt. Why would he want to kill her?
"Everything is going to be fine," I say more to myself than to her. Livia and Bella rush into the kitchen with Xavier, Alec, and Caden. They run towards Rose and me.
"Alec carry her. Caden get the cars ready we need to get her to the hospital immediately," Xavier instructs.
"Won't it better to call an ambulance so they can come to pick her from here?" I ask. Xavier glares at me as if telling me to shut up. "No," He replies curtly. I'm about to respond to his rudeness when I feel someone nudged my side. I turn and see Bella; her eyes were pleading with me to drop the matter. I let out a frustrated breath, I look around and see Alec and Caden have already left the kitchen with Rose. "Can we please come with you to the hospital?" I whisper softly.
He nods and beckons us to follow him. I walk behind him lost in my thoughts please Rose don't die, please
********************
Apparently, there was a village near the mansion that I never knew about, we've been in the hospital for hours. The doctor said the bullet is in a difficult place and they're trying everything they can, but she might die. No one is allowed to see her yet. Bella and Livia fell asleep a long time ago, but I couldn't sleep. If Rose died, it would be my fault. I should have never left the kitchen; I could have protected her.
Xavier, Alec, and Caden. Stayed with us, they'd been pacing around the hospital. Looking genuinely scared, Xavier wouldn't talk to me; he would glare at me, anger blazing in his eyes and I would glare at him with just as much anger. He was acting childish.
I am drawn out of my thoughts when I hear a door open. I look up and see the doctor approaching me. I shake Bella and Livia, waking them up from their slumber. They both that stand and look at the doctor anxiously waiting for him to talk.
"The patient wants to see you three," the doctor says pointing at Bella, Livia and me. We nod and follow him to Rose's room; she looked weak. Her radiant smile was gone, the sparkle in her eyes was replaced with darkness.
I sit on the bedside next to Rose, Livia does the same and Bella stands beside us. She looks at us and smiles weakly, she turns to the doctor, and he leaves the room probably wanting to give us some privacy. Once he leaves Bella speaks, "Who shot you, Rose?" She questions.
"I know you girls have a lot of questions, but they will have to wait. I have something very important to tell you," she says. We stay silent waiting for her to speak.
"Do remember what I told you about Mrs. Valentine disappearance?" She questions and we nod. "I told you I never stopped hoping she was alive, I did and I started my investigation into her disappearance, and some things don't add up."
"Why are you telling us this?" Livia asks confused like Bella and me. "I'm telling you this cause I need your help. I might die here, and if I do, I want you three to continue my investigation." We look at Rose in shock; she couldn't be serious.
"Why us?" I question. "Because I know you girls have the abilities I need. I did a background check on you girls. I know you three can handle a gun and protect yourself. I know your father's you three to be trained till you were the best and above all I know you three are trustworthy." She stops talking and clenches her chest with her hand.
"Are you okay?" I ask in a distressed tone. She nods and continues talking,
"I need you girls to please help me find Mrs. Valentine. Help me please," she pleads on the verge of tears.
Seeing her like this was breaking me, "I'll help you, Rose," I say and look at my friends. They nod signaling that they're in too.
"There's a cabin in the woods beside a big willow tree all the information you need is there. The-" Suddenly she stops talking, and her face scrunched up in pain. Her breathing becomes rapid, and she starts gasping for air. The machine connected to her starts beeping out of control, The Doctor runs in and tells us to leave the room.
I take one more look at Rose's shaking body before I leave the room. She couldn't die.
*******************
Xavier took us back home after Rose's seizure; he still wasn't talking to me. Honestly, I wish it didn't bother me so much that he was mad at me. The girls and I decided to go to the cabin Rose had talked about tomorrow at midnight. We wanted to help her even though we hadn't known her that long, she'd made an impact on our lives, and she'd suffered enough. This was the least we could do for her.
I am currently sitting on a beach in the garden they had. It was incredibly gorgeous at night; the lights made the flowers glitter like stars. It was also one Rose's favorite posts; she said scenery brought her peace. "What are you doing here?" I turn and see Xavier glaring at me.
"Just enjoying your garden," I reply sweetly. I wasn't in the mood for fights. He walks over to me and takes a seat beside me much to my discomfort. His presence made me nervous. We sat there in an uncomfortable silence, the air around us became thick. The tension was unbearable.
"You know Rose used to bring me here every night when I was little. She would play with me till I got tired. Then she'd carry to me to my room and sing to me till I fell asleep," he says sadness written all over him.
"She's going to be okay Xavier," I coo.
He looks at me and places his hand over mine. I immediately tense up at the contact, " Why are you are so tense whenever you're around me," he questions curiously. I stare at him not knowing what to say. I didn't know even why I was so tense around him.
"Cause I don't know how to act around guys. I've never had guy friends," I explain.
He chuckles lightly at my response, "Well then I'll be your first guy friend." I look at him skeptically. Why was he being so nice all of a sudden?
"Okay?" I say as more of a question than a response.
"If we're going to be friends you need to tell me something about yourself. Something interesting," he says. I think of what to tell him till something finally pops in my head.
"I hate ketchup."
He looks at me in disbelief. "How can you hate ketchup?!"
I shrug my shoulders, "I just do," I respond.
"So what do you use to eat fries?"
"Nothing I just eat them plain. I'm sorry but ketchup is just nasty." He looks at me in amusement.
"You are really something," he states. I laugh at his comment.
We stop talking and just look at each other. I get lost in his gaze, it was like he put me in a trance. "Your eyes look beautiful," he whispers. I blush no man had ever called anything about me beautiful.
I'm about to respond when of his men walk in. "Sir the hospital called they need you there immediately." Xavier rises to his feet and dashes out of the garden. Leaving me in great distress.
