~Chapter Three~
"Nandu, tell naa. Which one?" Maa was asking me this for the 100th time, the same old question. She is after me since I came, showing the pictures of guys that she has been collecting since the time I was settled according to her. "Maa, I told you I don't wanna marry right now!" I jumped out of the sofa I was sitting as Maa came all over me with the pictures.
"Then when? All your friends, cousins and colleagues are either engaged or married, or at the least they have a boyfriend which their family knows of. The point is that their families have a confirmation that their kids will be settled and have a married life. And we have nothing! You went to London so suddenly, no hint nothing and now when you have returned after so much time, don't we at least deserve to see you happily settled with a life partner." Maa's voice cracked up a little at the end as she got emotional and I immediately hugged her that moment. I felt guilty, very guilty actually. My family didn't deserve this, they were so supportive of me when I went. They never ever questioned my decisions even when the society used to tell them its wrong to send your daughter all alone in a foreign country. I couldn't just avoid getting married because I still have feelings for someone who doesn't care. I have to move on! "Maa, I promise you, I'll get engaged before I go back to London."
"Seems like the emotional blackmail, worked." Dad and Rishu peeped from the curtains of the living room as Maa and I broke the hug."Cry some more, who knows she might even agree to marry and go." Dad laughed while Maa playfully hit him and we all smiled. I had got the best family ever!
"Nandu, you need to shop! I don't like any of your dresses which are suitable for the reunion. Like come on, you have to look sizzling hot! sabke tote hi udd jaane hai." Navya said dreamily as we both were arranging my clothes in the wardrobe. "Navya, please. Meko kisika kuch nahi udhaana hai. I'll figure something out." I spoke and Navya held my arm and faced me. "Think again, Miss Murthy, are you sure you don't want to blow someone's mind?" I knew what she meant. "Let's go shopping." Navya smiled as I carried my purse and went out.
"Yaar, I need a Turkish blue blazer. That's what is the shade of Navya's dress for the party. We'll be colour coordinated, it will be so cute na, Manik?" Cabir said cutely to Manik as they entered the lift of the mall they went to shopping and I don't know what to say, coincidence or destiny but Navya and I also came to the same shopping mall for shopping. And surprisingly, we all four went to the same store.
"Navya, you check there. I'll find something here." I said to her and started looking. "Turkish blue, not turquoise blue! There's a different between both words, bhaiya!" Cabir was arguing with the salesman there while Manik was not at all interested in learning the difference between Turkish and Turquoise. He asked Cabir to carry on and call him when he is done while he'll just roam around.
Meanwhile, I finalised some dresses to try out and started searching for Navya. I called her and asked to come near the trial room so I can take suggestions from her. But little did I knew that she'll see Cabir in the way and will get busy with his blazer shopping.
I tried out a red dress and came out of the trial room, assuming Navya is already waiting for me. I came out a little to see if she is selecting any dresses but couldn't find her. I heard some footsteps and immediately thought it would be Navya. "Navya, finally you're here. I like this dress, just zip it from the back na, I'll get the proper fitting then." Little did I knew, It wasn't Navya but The Manik Malhotra who was now seeing my bare back. And I like a stupid was calling him to zip when all he knows is to unzip a dress. I am being mean, ain't I? But he deserves it.
And did he say something? No, of course not. How will the flirtatious Manik Malhotra refuse to touch a girl? He came close and the moment his hands touched my bare back, there was a spark. It felt the heat of his hands gushed inside my veins and I instantly turned back because I was sure as hell, it wasn't Navya. It was definitely Manik.
"Um, sorry. Your dress was unzipped and there was no one around here. And you....." He started speaking but I went numb seeing him. I signalled him by my hand to not give an explanation and just ran into the trial room. I was sweating and panting badly, because I had just faced the best nightmare of my life.
"Navya, by the way, how are you here? Your shopping was done right?" Cabir asked Navya who had totally forgot that her best friend was waiting for her. "Oh my god! Nandini must be waiting for me!" Navya almost screamed gaining attention of all the staff present there. "Nandini came with you?oh god, we need to find her as soon as possible because I have brought Manik with me! And they both are on the loose! Go go go!" Cabir said and Navya almost ran while Cabir settled the bill and called Manik.
Navya came to the trial place but didn't see anyone. She thought I was still inside so she started knocking the doors to find me, only to hear me crying inside. "Nandu, what happened? Open the door!" Navya panicked. "Navya, I saw him. I feel so, I don't know, it's just so overwhelming. I wasn't even prepared to see him, and like....and I can't help but cry right now." I said and started crying my heart out. "Nandu, you can't be weak. It's fine to have a little setback but only for today. You have to be strong. Don't forget what made you come here after so long. You have to teach him a lesson for what he did. You can't cry like this!" Navya tried to motivate me with her words and trust me, they worked like a charm.
I opened the door and wiped my tears. Navya hugged me. "He's a player na? I'll beat him at his own game. I won't let him get away this easily. I'll avenge each and every tear I have shed on him. Just wait and watch Mr Manik Malhotra."
